Their architect found a great solution to the problem of adding on to our house without spending a huge amount of money. And, we worked with an interior designer on staff who helped us pick out fixtures and tiles. All very easy! Renewal's team is experienced with the 203K streamline loan, which we used to add onto our home. It would have been difficult to deal with a contractor who was new to this type of loan product. I thought this was odd since I saw one of their yard signs in front of a home they are working on in Grant Park. Last time I checked, Grant Park is way outside of Decatur. West End is not as "gentrified" as Grant Park or Decatur but it is an awesome neighborhood with beautiful historic homes. I guess redlining zip codes is still a thing for some.

I have pics. The craftsmanship is rough and patches of filler on cabinet doors here and there. These guy came out with all kind of excuses week after week, month after month... I had been patient and understanding but I just can't keep waiting. They stopped answering my call and text, they are awful. I heard from their worker that many customers are waiting for their job to get done but lots are still waiting and neglected. I too want to take them to court. I am feeling angry, stupid and helpless. I spent almost 18K on this crap. That crew worked extremely hard in record heat from 9 to 6 every day. They worked fast - not sloppy fast, but efficient fast; like they have done this a thousand times before. And they left the job site clean and orderly every day. Our agreement was that IW would build the structure and I would procure the door and windows, which they would install. We had to wait a few weeks for the windows, but IW came back and finished the job as soon as the windows were available. We got quotes from several builders, and IW's price was in the middle, but they gave me the most confidence that they could actually do the job. And I liked that they did not ask for any money upfront, but rather pay 25% at 4 agreed-upon stages of progress. We had a good idea of what we wanted, and provided IW with some sketches and approximate dimensions, and they did the rest. When there were design choices to be made, they laid out the options and let us decide. They did NOT nickel and dime us with lots of billable change orders. Our project was slow to get started due to a snafu getting the building permit (which IW handled completely ) but once they got started, they made amazingly fast progress. I heartily recommend Innovative Woodworks - these guys are pros!

I was asked to pick out tile, fixtures, and cabinets from a list of vendors. I had initially…read moreselected grey cabinets, but called the vendor back to change my preference to white. I used white cabinet samples to compare to the countertops during selection. The work was done quickly at first. Demo took a couple days with the owner and one worker. When it came time to install the cabinets, they had ordered the grey color cabinets. When I called the vendor to confirm my color choice, she informed me that ARJ had never placed an order with them. The cabinets (and presumably the tile as well) must have been ordered from some alternate vendor. ARJ fought with me to insist that the grey cabinets were fine and looked good. I had to insist that they install the cabinets that I selected. Because the shower pan installation didn't account for the lip of the shower bench, the bench installation was done by cutting a notch out of my doorframe to accommodate. When I insisted this be corrected, the bench was cut down smaller and the notch was filled with silicone caulk (which shrunk upon drying). The mosaic tile used for the shower pan floor and on the walls was uneven and poorly cut and installed. ARJ blamed this on defective tiles from the manufacturer and insisted that this could not be avoided. No spacers were used on the mosaic tile resulting in uneven and jagged lines. Tiles were chipped and cracked during installation. There was a film left from the grout which has stained the tile floors. The wall tile and shower tile are still covered with a film. The light fixtures that were installed were not even centered above the sinks, and when I asked to have this corrected, ARJ suggested just moving the mirror over (even though this would also be off-center with the sink). I asked ARJ for an itemized invoice for the cost of materials numerous times and they never provided one. I was charged over $5,000 for materials (tile, cabinets, and countertops - fixtures were purchased personally). When confronted with the issues, ARJ argued that the work was fine and that the damage to the tiles was hardly noticeable, especially if you stood back from the walls. I insisted on receiving an itemized invoice because I feel certain I was overcharged for the materials (including the tile that was damaged).

On Friday at 6:30 PM, I was able to line up an appointment for their estimator to arrive at our home the next day (Saturday) at 4 PM. I rearranged my day on Saturday to make sure I would be there when the estimator arrived. At 3:21, the estimator called my cell phone and left a message. He called again at 3:25. At 3:30, I received a text asking if I was home and then another text that said my appointment was canceled due to no response. During these 10-15 minutes, I was on a treadmill running, so I did not have my phone handy. Honestly, I could have been doing a lot of things and not had my cell phone handy... reading a book, working in the yard, playing games with my kids, etc. If I had been told by ARJ Remodeling that I would receive a phone call or text 30-45 minutes prior to the appointment and that if I did not respond, the appointment would be canceled, I would have made sure I had my cell phone handy. However, I was never told this important fact. So, when I got off the treadmill at 3:35 to make the 5-minute ride home to be home 15-20 minutes before the appointment, I picked up my phone and saw the text that my appointment had been canceled. I texted back expressing my disappointment and received a text that stated: "That's not good you did not answer even text at 3:30." Read that text again... notice it is my fault the appointment had been canceled. I was irritated, so I called and said: "Wow, that's a great way to lose business." I admit this was not the best way to start the conversation. At the same time, the young man who answered the phone immediately put the blame on me (as he did with the text). He explained, in a verbose manner, that it was my fault that I did not answer my phone and that his estimator didn't want to drive 30 minutes to an appointment if I wasn't going to be there. I mentioned we had just made the appointment a day earlier, that I keep my appointments, that I was never told I needed to answer a phone call before the appointment to confirm I was there, and that if I had been told this fact that I would have made sure I had my phone handy. The young man barely took a breath before he started explaining again that the problem was that I didn't answer my phone. This is when I decided to hang up. Never once did the person answering the phone say, "We are sorry we canceled your appointment" and there was no apology for any misunderstanding, even though I stated that I had rearranged my entire day to be available for this appointment. Here's the kicker... I'm getting 2-3 estimates, which is what most people likely do for a big project like this one, and ARJ was the company I was leaning towards hiring because their online reviews are strong. Obviously, after the way I was treated as a potential customer, I won't be doing business with them. With that said, my disappointment is not just with the way I was treated as a potential customer. I'm also disappointed that ARJ is out of the running for this project because, as stated in my first paragraph, it sounds like they do good work. One final word. Please feel free to check out my other reviews. At the time of this review, I have left 14 other reviews -- 12 5-star reviews and two 1-star reviews (one which was updated to a 4-star reivew). Despite clear and indisputable evidence that his actions caused all of the damage I claim, Mike refuses to take any responsibility. He makes claims, but has zero evidence to support these claims. Even more concerning, Bussie Contracting Services is an illegally operating business that is NOT licensed as a residential contractor in the State of Georgia, which is a clear violation of O.C.G.A. § 43-41-2 and § 43-41-17, which require a valid PLB-issued license for residential projects exceeding $2,500. My project was well over that amount. As a result, I am currently preparing to file a formal complaint with the Georgia Professional Licensing Board, which has the authority to: * Investigate and take legal action against unlicensed contractors, * Impose civil penalties up to $5,000 per violation, and * Shut down unlicensed construction businesses and prohibit them from operating in Georgia. If you're considering hiring this company, verify their licensing status carefully. I strongly advise others not to make the same mistake I did.

Two informed me that "no" I could not have a drywall ceiling, that I was stuck with a drop ceiling; "no" we can not put a pocket door in this wall; "no" we can't remove a wall. And then there was Mike! I knew from our first telephone conversation that he was the one! I was right! I have a beautiful tray ceiling of drywall, I have a perfect pocket door and there is no more divider wall. Mike spent 1 1/2 hours with me in my basement during the bid process. He is one of the nicest men I have met. He is kind and thoughtful. He listens and then translates builder language into words that I could understand. Mike was so thorough! He noticed a wall that had been built incorrectly and suggested he rebuild it correctly. This will allow me to mount a TV on that wall! He took the time to remove several of the existing drop ceiling tiles and really looked to see what was happening above the tiles and said "yes" we can do a drywall ceiling. Mike suggested other little things like where I planned to mount the TV and he installed the outlet high on the wall to avoid the TV cord being seen. He suggested moving a wall out into the room 20 inches so that the future bathroom would be bigger. I never realized how small that bathroom would be, but Mike did, and his idea was perfect. There were also so many extras that Mike just took care of for me that saved me time and money. I really appreciate his kindness! I am blown away by my new basement. It used to be dark and dreary, and I never used that room. Now it is my favorite room in the house. Bussie started the day they said they would start and finished one day earlier than expected and even came in UNDER the original budget. You will not meet a nicer man and he will do what he says he will do and even go the extra mile to make the customer happy! I can't wait to have Bussie Contracting back to my house for a porch rebuild, kitchen and bathroom remodel as soon as possible!

Really recommended…read more Ezekiel is responsive, fair, and terrific. I called him about a needed repair at my house; he came by later that day to look at what I had. He educated me on the problem (and I say this as someone who doesn't know the first thing about carpentry) and then essentially showed me it was an unnecessary repair. He said he could fix it for a certain number, but it wasn't necessary. The man saved me thousands of dollars and earned my trust. He clearly knows what he's doing. I know who I'm calling the next time I need any wood or bathroom work done. I'll also add he emphasized he didn't mind small jobs at all; a very helpful thing to know. In July, I discovered that we had serious wood rot issues and reached out to several contractors. Ezequiel was not the least expensive but I recognized immediately his absolute dedication to doing quality work. Oddly, he doesn't put his contracts in writing and normally that would be a nonstarter for me ... especially with fronting half of the $ up front! But I reached out to former customers and you just get a sense of Ezequiel's integrity when talking with him . We shook hands on the deal and it was one of the best decisions ever. Ezequiel told me up front that I likely had additional wood rot that I hadn't yet discovered. Our upfront deal included replacing all the cosmetic (not structural) wood rot on the house, building brand new shutters, and painting the house. Structural wood rot discovered wood be separate. He did indeed find major structural wood rot and his price to fix that was very fair. I really feel that someone without Ezequiel's integrity would have gouged me on that. I was so pleased with the work that we did another handshake deal to build out a screened in patio under my deck. Overall my wife and I are thrilled with the work and recommend Ezequiel to everyone. The key differentiator with him is the pride in the work. He doesn't cut corners when the customer would never know. He would know . He wants the work to be done thoroughly and right.
