Despite the club's youth, it has grown into a popular place for beginners and advanced players alike, with the challenging course and interesting views seemingly drawing the crowds - the club's entrance has a huge banner informing you that the place is 'the fastest growing golf facility in the north'. A round here will cost you upwards of between £20 and £25, putting it somewhere between the council courses such as Wike Ridge (£18) and the more upmarket courses such as Headingley (£40), and this reflects the standard of the course - rather middle of the road. The driving range, putting green and club house are both excellent additions to the main course, although somewhat overpriced (£3.50 for a bucket of 50 golf balls at the range). Overall, Cookridge is an enjoyable course, but does suffer from slightly infated prices - there are other courses where you get more value for money, and I would suggest Wike Ridge or Horsforth over Cookridge. However, if you do play Cookridge, I suggest using an iron on the 18th tee - or drive the green and go fishing for your ball.

As seems to becoming a trend with my reviews I'll add a little caveat to my review as of December…read moreI'd only ever used a golf club once and that was to play a game of rounders with a putter which ended in a smashed window, so as far as the course goes I have no idea, however they do a kids group on Sundays which is aimed at getting new people playing The lessons are grouped into blocks of five which is £25 per child, lessons last an hour and include the equipment they will need to learn. The lessons cover how to play, basics such as markers and club names, and etiquette for the course. My son and daughter both love the lessons and are on their third block with progress being made . Inspired by the kids and looking for a new hobby we have since started lessons which are £35 for a family of four for an hour, with clubs and balls being provided. The other great advantage this provides is you can go up whenever you want borrow some balls and a club and practice what you have been shown during the lessons this is at no extra cost We've had a couple of lessons now and can see the effect the lessons are having I would recommend anyone who wants to see if they like golf or not to give this a go

Membership is full (they relook at it every April I believe), but you can certainly play during the week or get in a competition at weekend. Well turned out changing rooms, and then upstairs to a well serviced bar and chilled out lounge. Excellent food, and you can rent out the function room for your event of choice, or join one of the organised events - Burn's Night is very popular (watch out for those Bagpipes). Okay, there's not a lot of choice. If you're in Rossendale, then that's your only golf club - Baxenden or Bury are your closest. But they do a good job with the restyled club room (I remember when there was a 'Men Only' lounge - about three weeks ago), and you cannot beat those views

And being a five minute drive from Leeds city centre, it becomes convenient golf on a budget. The perfect place to master your short game, the course only has a few 300+ yard holes, with most being in the late 1 and early 2 hundred yarders. Look out for the WW2 bomb-hole on the seventh! Not beautifully kept, but perfectly playable, and at these prices (£1 for trolley hire) you just have no cause for complaint.

Great golfing, although there are a few tees up a hill! So will keep you fit. Lots of friendly people, good food and well kept beers. A seated area outside for barcecues and drinks in the summer, with panoramic views across the valley. The golfing is friendly,yet still competitive, so you can play for fun or deadly earnest (he plays off scratch!!!) Loads of competitions if you want to join in, or just listen to the if onlys in the bar afterwards.
