We are writing this review to commend Dr. George Fisher at Brandon Eye Associates. Barbara and I have been treated by Dr. Fisher for several years and I have always been impressed by and profited by the breadth and depth of his knowledge and expertise. Our perceptions were reinforced as a result of Barbara's visit several weeks ago as she reported a problem with increased floaters after a fall resulting in a blow to the forehead. However, Dr. Fisher's professional knowledge and experience became very evident as his diagnosis reflected that she had suffered a complicated retinal injury. He immediately recommended that Barbara needed to go the the emergency room at the Tampa General Hospital's Eye Institute. It is important to note the the professional staff at Eye Institute were impressed and commented on the depth land accuracy of Dr, Fishers diagnostic report. We appreciate the skills, knowledge, and involvement of the professional staff at the Eye Institute. However, we feel that Dr. Fisher's involvement, professional knowledge and expertise and prompt referral to the Eye Institute was one of the factors in her recovery from this medical issue. Look for another eye doctor, stay away. I have been going here since 2007 when we moved to Florida. Recently had an appointment for retinal laser treatment. One of the techs crashed an eye drop container into my eye ball, something that has never happened to me before. My appointment was at 10 AM, at 12:30 when the office was empty of patients and staff I inquired to who I could find about whether or not i was forgotten. I was quickly brought into the treatment room. The process involves the doctor using a device that actually touches your eye. The device was wiped and deposited on the table in front of me then picked up and applied to my eye with the end that had been on the table. The procedure was extremely uncomfortable, but completed. I was given a salve in my eye and told to call with any problems, no details on what I should avoid doing or anything that would indicate what I could expect from recovery for the procedure. Within an hour my eye was painful, not uncomfortable, painful and both eyes began to swell and tear up. It got worse overnight, finally I went to another eye Dr and found out I had a "pretty big" tear on my cornea. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

The office of Brandon Eye Associates are absolutely horrible! The front office manager refuses to give me my prescription for eyeglasses over a $40 refraction fee. That refraction fee comes with every exam . She is breaking the law federally and is also breaking the law by FTC standards . If this is happening to you you need to do something about it right away. So this is the worse group of doctors. I work until 1 am everyday. I came 15 min late after my blood sugar being low so I couldnt drive. Told me they couldnt see me, after telling me the week before that my situation was really serious and I could loose my eye sight. Guess it wasn't that important to them. I even explained why I was late no compassion or customer service skills at all. The other doctor that I was seeing there DR Bovi breathe smelled so bad I had to hold my breathe. When we left my wife who was in the chair even smelled it and said the whole room smelled like it. She also had bracelets all over her with diamonds guess those were more important than her breathe. Anyway i missed one appointment after seeing her 8 times in 3 weeks for glaucoma Which can't worsen over night so there really was no need to see her that many times in one month. Long story short she came into the room at the next appointment with a paper telling me I need to find a new doctor because I missed the one appointment. Again leaving me with no doctor after telling me the situation was really serious. They make you wait three hours and you only see the doctor for 15 min. But when you have a little problem they are so inconsiderate. This office is just about the money they care nothing about the patients Just giving the other patients a warning. So my fiance and I go there for his checkup. We arrive a 1/2 hour early but are not brought into his appointment until 20 minutes AFTER his initial appointment time! Then, the nurse comes in, doesn't introduce herself or give her name, asks questions about his status and then puts drops in his eyes. They cattle us to the other waiting room for his eyes to dilate and then we are waiting for over 1 1/2 hours until the doctor sees us! I complained earlier as to why we are waiting so long and they state "sorry, but there is nothing we can do." Seriously? I tell them if WE were late, shouldn't you get docked for it? Money deducted? They are ridiculous and I would NEVER go there again! The best part is the retina specialist comes in, doesn't introduce himself, ignores me (the person sitting in the chair with his fiance) and leaves! They are so backwards there and would never use them as an eye specialist. read more

Don't do it. Dr Marquis is a very capable doctor, the office is a mess. I have a very specialized eye disease, so I have very few options. Every year the office has filled out the paper work incorrectly delaying me in receiving my new contacts, I can only see with my eye disease using contacts. This year it has been over 2 months and my insurance company is telling me that the doctors office has not even filed the claim. Now the Dr does not want to deal with my insurance (AvMed) anymore and will no longer service me and will not give me my contacts. read more

The Physicians and staff are for the most part lovely and provide a good experience. The time frame you are there is somewhat to be desired some visits 2-2.5 hours Today I had an appointment that I scheduled two days prior, to show up today and the front desk clerk to tell me they have been trying to get ahold of me and my voice mail is not set up. I said that is not true because I have had the same number for 20 years and your office has called me before. So she says well...that's what they put and then proceeds to tell me the doctor is not in today. Which I work in the medical field so I understand things coming up like this. but then I verify my number with her and she reads off a number I have never heard before, not even close. I again said no and then asked how could they have it wrong when I have been coming there every 6 months for 2 years and you have called me before? So maybe when you want an ID and Ins card at very visit you should also verify address and phone number to make sure you are not calling random people about other peoples appointment. Come on guys, you gotta do better about clients demographics, you literally have people that just do that job. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THE OPTOMETRIST! Bait and switch and then I was lied to by the billing department. I went in for a consultation for an Intraocular Lens displacement. I was examined and then referred to another surgeon (seems all they do is refer to others anymore). Asked if I could get a contact for the time being and was told yes. Was also told there wouldn't be a charge as my insurance would cover. Got the contact and then starting getting bills in the mail. Called and told the billing department that I was told there wasn't going to be a charge and she said "BY LAW WE HAVE TO CHARGE YOU FOR THE FITTING". This is an out an out lie. I paid the bill and they refuse to give me my prescription, which by FTC guidelines they have to. STAY AWAY FROM HERE! read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could!! I had to reschedule my initial appointment because they made it without talking to me (on a referral). It had to be pushed back two weeks, when I'm already having problems seeing, that's a LONG time! I drive over an hour from home to my appointment, and check-in 15 minutes early. They say sit down and someone will call you. So I sit and wait, and my appointment time comes and goes. They finally call me up 10 minutes AFTER my appointment time (25 minutes sitting the waiting room) to tell me that the Dr. isn't in today, she had an emergency and I need to reschedule in another two weeks!! I am furious and crying now!! No one called me?? I've had to adjust my schedule because this Dr. only sees patients one days week, and I've driven over an hour, and SAT IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES!! If there was any other place close to my home that accepted my insurance I wouldn't even consider coming back!! There aren't enough words to explain how upset I am!! read more

Rarely do I write reviews but this is an exception. I needed cataract surgery on my left eye. My right eye was taken care of a few years ago, so this wasn't my first rodeo. This is a busy place with several doctors. I got lucky with Dr. Amy Martino. The pre op sessions went very smoothly. A good plan, getting the old operations details, getting the measurements all went well. The day of surgery went flawlessly. I felt like they gave me their best team of nurses and anesthesiologists. They were great. I can't say enough nice thing about my treatment. Just great. The surgery only lasted about an hour. I came home and followed the post surgery instructions. No pain. After a week I can see 20 20 out of my brand new eye. I'm very happy. Thanks to the whole team at Brandon Surgery Center. read more

I've gone there twice and I have never been greeted with hello, good afternoon, how are you? how can I help you? It's either wait one minute, or what's your name, what's your date of birth, very very unprofessional, very insensitive, very rude they should not be up there at the front desk. People that are at the front desk should have a smile on their face and greeting the people with hello or good afternoon or how can I help you! and if they don't like their job and don't want to be courteous to the people that are coming to that business they should not be upfront! so please do something about this it'll be in your best interest. read more

Struggled to get a straight answer if our vision insurance was accepted here. After a vigorous preregistration and a verbal assurance we were all set, we arrived at our appointment early, presented our insurance card and declined! Evidently, it was a gross inconvenience to call us (they didn't) prior to our 9:45 am Monday morning appointment to save us the inconvenience of a 1/2 hour one way travel time. We went through all my options, and I am why this/why that type. Given the quality of all the services received from everyone, I now know why they were a tad late and I'll take that any day. Long waits, tons of tests, 5 minutes with the doctor. A different person for each test. Crazy! Everyone is very nice though, no complaints. They also have a place to buy new glasses if you need them. Used them for sunglasses and new RX. No issues! I had written a much more detailed review, but Yelp deleted it for some reason I don't understand. Horrible. Overbooked. The waiting room looked like a cattle call. After waiting 45 minutes the staff finally gave me the initial paperwork. I asked when I could expect to see a doctor. The person at the desk gave me a glazed-over look and told me: "I don't know. We are busy." I ascertained that by the amount of disgruntled people in the waiting room. However, I have trouble believing that an organization so thoroughly inconsiderate of their patients could possibly be competent physicians, but I will never know because we left. I would have loved to have given this office a higher review but it's honestly quite undeserving. From the very first visit (a referral from another ophthalmologist) these folks really were just focused on giving me "procedures" that they could bill to my insurance. I had all of my history, physical and exam paperwork sent over in advance, yet somehow we needed to repeat the entire eye exam I had just completed 2 weeks prior. It took 3 hours, we learned absolutely nothing new and I got a bill for $304 (after insurance). Three months later I had been experiencing some pain in my right eye. Having multiple genetic eye conditions, I am sensitive to changes in vision, so I called and made another appointment for the following day. Imagine my surprise when once again we simply conducted a routine glaucoma eye exam, despite the fact that I came in with specific symptoms. After 45 minutes and only talking with or seeing a technician, I finally get to see the doctor (for less than a minute), who tells me I must just have allergies and should take some Sudafed for the itching (doesn't even make sense as I was complaining about pain in just one eye - allergies would have affected both). By that evening, my eye condition worsened and my eyelid was completely red, itchy and inflamed. I called the office the next day and asked to speak to the doctor, and was told they would have someone call me back. 2 hours went by and I heard nothing, so I called again. After waiting on hold for about 20 minutes, I got a "technician" on the phone who started telling me how there was nothing in my chart about this eye problem that I just came in for yesterday. I attempted to explain that the reason I made the appointment was because of this condition, and asked if I could email a photo of the changes (the inflammation, which was getting worse by the hour) to the office and have the doctor take a look. They told me they "don't have email" (really?? it's 2020 -- you have email). Then the technician rudely said "you're going to have to speak with someone else" and put me on hold. I hung up the phone and went to BayCare Urgent Care. The doctor at BayCare Urgent Care was able to diagnose this as blepharitis in about 30 seconds, simply by looking at my eye. That (more competent) doctor prescribed some eye drops and ointment and a few days have gone by, my eye condition has cleared up and the itching and redness have gone away. I don't even want to know what kind of nonsense bill Brandon Eye Associates will be sending me for their complete lack of help, effectiveness and effort. This office is an example of how healthcare practitioners are focused on medical billing and performing procedures, and less on outcomes and providing healthcare for their patients. There's some good news, though - I'll also be writing a very positive review for BayCare Urgent Care on Valrico Rd. and SR-60 - they did an amazing job from intake to prescription and follow up. I saw Dr. Fisher for an eye infection that was improperly diagnosed by another ophthalmologist at another location. He did a wonderful job of prescribing the proper medication and care. Ultimately I had a follow up eye examination conducted by another professional in their office. My vision prescription changed by at least 100% after I had had the same prescription for over 20 years. That caused me to get migraine headaches, blurry vision, and ultimately another eye exam with another eye care facility which properly diagnosed me with the "EXACT" prescription I had had the previous 20 years. Ultimately I disputed the charges for the eye exam I had received from Brandon eye care and refused to pay my deductible contribution due to the costs of my now discarded contacts ($270) and supplemental eye exam ($95). They showed absolutely no professional consideration and proceeded to place a collection against me for $90.00. Extremely vicious and malicious by any standard. Take your own risks! I will be filing suit against these bullies and will advise of those proceedings in the coming months. read more

My last review was generally positive except for the waiting and waiting and waiting. So a year has gone by and time for my annual eye exam. I am happy to report the following. I was called in just minutes after my appointment. I'm calling that on time. I went in with the tech who ran me through a whole series of tests. I swear some of the machines in there are right out of Star Wars. After the tech was done with me I was escorted to the inside waiting area. Last time there were skeletons in there. You wait here to see the doctor, the last step. I wasn't in there for 5 minutes when I was called. Once in Doctor Taylor came right in and we reviewed my exam results. He looked in my eyes with the Orb of Zeus, or whatever it was and declared I was good. Hallelujah! No change in prescription. Awesome. And finally comes to what I experienced last year, the Walk of Death with the creepy office manager to checkout. This time I was handed my paperwork and instructed to proceed to checkout. I was done. And I found my way all on my own! How about that. I was out in less than one hour. Now that rocks. read more

DO NOT GO HERE FOR CONTACTS!!!! CHECK YOU BILL CAREFULLY!!!! I moved back to Tampa and needed new contacts as I haven't gotten any in about 2 years. In Jan I went here for my exam and contact fitting and was told that I didn't owe anything. Two months later I got a bill in the mail for $50. I was annoyed that they told me different and wish I could have just paid while I was there. But no big deal. Went in to pay the $50 in March and order my contacts. I was told that I can't get contacts until Jan of 2018 because I already used my insurance. Was confused and didn't understand. Called my insurance company and was told that my allowance for contacts was $200 and the doctor charged $250 for the contact fitting. That's why I owed $50, not because of a copay. It was the remaining balance of their charge. The lady with my insurance company was confused because she said she's NEVER seen anyone charge that much. She said the average for a contact fitting is around $60. So now I've paid over 4 times the average and $50 out of pocket, and now I can't afford to buy the contacts because I just quit my job to go back to school. I'm now waiting for them to get back to me to explain why they charged me over 4 times the average for a contact fitting. UPDATE: I was told the issue was fixed. They charged $25 for the fitting and I used the remaining $175 for my contacts and paid the remaining money out of pocket since I ordered a years worth. However, next thing I know I get ANOTHER bill in the mail for $225 and now no one is returning my phone calls. read more

I love Dr. Taylor but from the time you walk into the front door the front desk staff starts to make you think you should have went to Walmart. They always claim that they never receive faxes or they canceled your appointment but didn't tell you. They tell you in a text message to bring in your referral, but they say, "I don't think we can take this." "Jesus take the wheel!" I get anxiety when I come here from the front desk staff alone. I, like many others, do not write reviews. I came down with a case of Bell's Palsy in December and while all of the other symptoms and discomforts did leave my body and face, I still had a dry eye that drooped. Originally, I saw Dr. Fisher. Yes, I put up with the cattle car on both sides, but aren't your eyes worth it? He was comforting, precise and recommended that I see Dr. Landy (she only does lids), which I did. She was kind, direct and stitched a tiny magnetic into my top lid so that it would close fully and alleviate the dry eye and the pain. It worked about 85%. I think 85% is better than zero percent and I'm fine with that. I am told that in a few more months that it will be totally healed and at that point it should be 100%. So, if you are searching for doctors that know what they are doing and can tolerate the overcrowding and wait time, I would recommend them without any doubt. I went for an annual eye exam (well my last one was 2-3 yrs ago). Sadly I lost my job and became sick and went on Medicaid. My diabetes not under control, no money for medicine. I am grateful Brandon Eye Assoc welcomed me with just Medicaid, while the other Brandon Eye wouldn't even though I had gone there for years with regular insurance. But Brandon Eye Assoc did more tests that regular Brandon Eye also. I was very happy with the great service at Brandon Eye Assoc. I didn't wait long and I was late. New patient paperwork didn't even slow them down getting me seen. The staff was great, friendly, I felt welcomed (I'm a paraplegic, some people aren't so friendly), I was so glad I went. Dr Ilyas is an excellent doctor. He was warm and friendly and seemingly very knowledgeable. My eyes are ok just need to keep an eye on them for pressure. I would highly recommend Brandon Eye Assoc. I never thought I would have ended up on Medicaid. I am a working disabled American, licensed ins. agent. I was welcomed and set at ease my eyes are doing very good. Like others, I rarely write reviews but I was truly impressed with my experience with them and so I had to review them. I had to have cataract surgery on both eyes! Nice waiting room, short wait times compared to most doctors I have to visit. But the MOST impressive asset is definitely (next to the Outstanding surgery skills of Dr. Ilyias and others) is just the staff themselves. You know how you see employees and can just tell they don't want to be there, just collecting that paycheck and waiting on 5 o'clock? That tells me everything about the work environment. I did not get that vibe there. Everyone seemed genuinely nice and they come across as caring about you, you aren't just a number, just really kind pleasant people which definitely made the nervousness of having eye surgery a much-improved experience. Highly hugely recommend them for you and any/all eye needs. Hats off Dr. Ilyas Haroon, takes a lot to impress me and you did it!!!! read more

What a horrible business. I WILL NEVER DO business here again and I will Make sure that everyone I come in contact with knows what rude and backwards service that is provided by the Optical Shop. I have never been so frustrated and disappointed. THE WORST CUSTOMER service by the Optical Shop. They tell you one thing and then Say otherwise. Charge you after without letting you know before. I purchased glasses and was sold a defective product. Just a few months later the frames cracked. I called to get the frames reordered and paid full price for a replacement. I was told by TOM that If this happens again to call and that he would take care of it for me because they would be under warranty. Well it happened again, so I called, and he ordered me new frames. And then again. So I called again. I was informed that I was not the only person that seemed to have this issue with these frames and he ordered them again. I don't live close and this was a HUGE inconvenience to have to keep returning to get my frames replaced. But it happened yet again! These frames a were junk! But I was informed that I could have them replaced. But this time, after I was about to leave they said I had to pay for them. So after leaving, not agreeing to pay for anything nor signing for anything I was sent a bill. I called to discuss this bill. I was transfered to Wanda in the optical shop, and not only did she now allow me to voice my concern, she did not offer to try to remedy the situation, SHE YELLED AND HUNG UP on me! So I called back and Spoke with Martina(supervisor). She said that the person I would need to speak with was Heather and she was not in the office and that she would speak with her and get back to me. 11 days pass and No one has called me. So I call. Martina says that she can't help me and transfers me to Heather. She won't help me and transfers me to Tom in optical shop. He flat out tells me "you owe this" and doesn't let me plead my case, because he he has to go, because it was closing time. So after speaking with 3 people and being on the phone for 35 minutes trying to get some kind of decent service, My concern it disregarded and ignored. NEVER USE THIS PLACE OR GIVE THEM ANY OF YOU HARD EARNED MONEY. read more

Dr, Ilyas and staff were wonderful. HOWEVER, I opted to have a script for stronger glasses instead of surgery as long as was able. They gave me my prescription, I took it and got new glasses. There was no different than the old ones. I had to get a return on the glasses and went back here, they did another exam and said it would be stronger. Got new glasses again, no difference. I have been going 2 yrs without seeing any better. Changed insurance, went to another eye DR. got a new prescription, and can now see better, again, waiting as long as possible to have surgery. Brandon eye Ass. led me for 2 yrs struggling not seeing well at all so I would opt for surgery( which I felt they were doing) and I found an honest Eye clinic who corrected it. read more

I've been a patient for over 15 years. The staff have always treated me professionally and go above and beyond their job scope. The doctors are very friendly too. I've used this office since moving to Brandon from the west (have yet to change my Yelp info). The doctors appear good at what they do, however in my opinion, when administrative problems occur, few at this office ever take responsibility to ensure appropriate service to the customer - oh yeah, remember the customer? the one with the eye problems? the one(s) whose insurance or checking account pays for the service? hello...this is Florida - there are good or great doctors all over the place. what sets your practice apart from another? I was just a number to you until a real bad case of customer service happened. now I'm taking my every other month eye problems and going elsewhere. I've always paid my bills, and there has not been any insurance holdups. the front desk folks are generally efficient and nice, and the clinical staff appears well trained and sincere, yet this is where it ends. the back office workers give a good first impression, but just let something go wrong. Experience anything out of the ordinary and everyone becomes defensive, points fingers, lays blame, and forgets you are the patient. I suppose they have too much business and will never have to worry about their paychecks running out. I have decided the doctor will be missed, but I much prefer to deal with people that treat me with dignity, respect, and caring, instead of always implying they are always right, and I am always wrong. Always. If this is how they treat the good customers (you know, the ones that pay their bills and show up on time), I'd hate to see how they treat the patients they don't like very well. Very sad. I must say that if you can work it out so everything goes smoothly, you will likely not have any problems here and will thoroughly appreciate your doctor(s). I did for a while. Brandon Eye Associates is the best around! Very friendly, positive staff, who all seem very happy to be a part of this practice. I only have good things to say and felt I was in very good hands. I only waited about 5 minutes before I was called in for my eye exam. Dr. Haroon Ilyas was very helpful, informative and is sincerely concerned about his patients. I elected to have surgery and I am so happy I did. My vision is like it was 20 years ago!! Dr. Haroon is a miracle worker!! I would highly recommend Brandon Eye Associates, from the staff, office administrators and Dr.'s, they put their patients first and have years and years of experience.
