Came here again for a second time... And it exceeded my impressions again! We were drinking from 1am until 3:30am The waiter was very polite, and provided us with an awesome service. If I remember correctly, his name starts with H and he is from Bangladesh. He was very knowledgeable in the drinks. He knew how most of the drinks were made, stored, and processed. He provided us with a summary on how the drinks should smell, how it should taste according to the age, the different type of caskets and their age used for storing and aging drinks, whether some drinks should have a smoke taste, and much more. Basically, he knew most of the drink labels there... I was amazed by his skills and knowledge. He was very polite and kept us entertained for the night. In summary, it was an awesome service provided. The best of the class, 5 stars!!! I had a Cognac, it was a Leopold Gourmel 15 Carats, it was awesome! I am not usually a Cognac drinker but that drink soothed my tongue that night. It was sweet and it was delicious! On my first visit, we had a shot of a Brandy suggested by our server. We were not there very long, but the ambiance and decor left a lasting image on my brain. When I was leaving an old job, I came here with some co-workers and I had another enjoyable experience. I had the sliders and two white Russians. This place is a bit pricey, but well worth it. Very disappointing. Service was lackluster. Was expecting a warm welcome or introduction and no one said welcome or anything. It took about 5 - 7 minutes for someone to come greet us and after we were seated. And when the lady who didn't introduce herself did come over , she quickly asked us if we wanted a drink she appeared to be rushing and didn't take time to explain the menu offerings or anything. I did not get the impression she (or anyone else servicing the tables) was an experienced sommelier. Everyone seemed like they were ready to go home. They ran out of the big ice cubes for an old fashioned. The old fashioned was just okay but the espresso martini was a bit better. It really was not as great of an experience as my husband and I were expecting and we cut our visit at another place short to come here and it really was a waste of time. When we first arrived one lady blasted a video on her phone for a couple of minutes which was a bit odd for the ambiance. There were a couple of other things that made us regret our decision to come here. Maybe our expectations were too high and this is actually not a high caliber brandy / whiskey lounge that provides a world class experience with cocktails. We were practically soaked, in the pouring rain, in this neighbourhood, and we really needed a drink, after finding the 'Ghostbuster' firehouse around the corner, and the rain stopping, and a rainbow showing in the sky we took off our ponchos and came into this magical place of alcohol consumption! When you walk up the small flight of stairs there is someone that opens the door for you, we quickly took off our ponchos and put them in the umbrella stand and walked in. This place definitely felt like a library, a library of intoxication at it's finest! Their name is exactly what this place feels like, but not from some public library, more like something you'd find in a mansion with guys in robes sitting around and probably a butler in the corner serving you. Instead of taking the comfy leather couch, or chairs and having our own table, we decided to get up to the bar and enjoy the atmosphere from there. The bartender provided us a thick, leather covered, heavy menu, page by page showing heavy spirits, from brandys (of course), boubon's, gins and other worldly spirits, it was just a daunting task to just pick something as the inner me wanted to drink them all, but that will hit the wallet and the head real hard! I ordered a glass of Suntory, and my partner ordered a taster flight of their world brandies. There were some suits in here, this is definetely a place you would feel very comfortable with a suit or a nice dress, it has that classy snazzy feel, the bartender had his suspenders on, everything looked like it was from another age, the lighting from the back cabinets illuminted through the bottles and gave an amber tinge, much of it probably was from the booze the light was going through. I noticed some business casual meetings here, some girls having a good time, and probably a date going on behind me where the guy was definitely trying to impress. Our orders came, mine was just the single round glass, Suntory poured right in front of me, but the impressive show was what my dear had, which was the worldly brandy flights, coming in a small wooden trey fitting all 6 glasses, he placed this right in front of us, and put a sheet describing each glass, except for #6, and playing with us telling us, "I won't tell you yet"!. In a setting like this your not just drinking, your learning about each drink from the information sheet. The bartender, he definitely had the knowledge on what he was serving and at the same time checked up on us but gave us space to enjoy the atmosphere of this place. A place I would recommend, if you don't want a crowded place (on the day we went it wasn't), feel a little dressed up, need to bring a date, or someone to catch up on the times, and be able to talk to someone without trying to raise your voice above the noise, and at the same time get some good drinks.... well here it is. I saw this restaurant on a TV show and decided I had to check it out. I expected it to be very fancy, and although it was an upscale restaurant the service was poor. We could have easily racked up a huge bill, but because we stopped by before a dinner reservation and the waitress was so slow we only got one drink each. Stumbled upon a Tomintoul whiskey tasting this evening when stopping in for a pre dinner drink. Had a 7:15 reservation, and our table wasn't yet ready so spent some time at the tasting in the entry lounge near coat check. We ended up being seated in the corner near the coat room, cozy but probably not the best seat in the house. I ordered the musket and my mate ordered the Pods De Vie. Both were delicious, and actually had similar aromas though the pods de vie is definitely creamier. Definitely intend tto come back, as I was not able to grasp the full range and selection but so far enjoyed everting I saw and experienced! read more

Went to this little speakeasy with my wife and a couple other friends. To say they got off to a bad start is putting it nicely. The "attire" was formal, so we dressed like we normally would to any other bar in New York or quite frankly anywhere at all (it's a place to drink alcohol for crying out loud, not a senate hearing). After several ridiculously pretentious looks, we informed the host our party of 6 was awaiting on one more. They proceeded to tell us "we don't do parties of 7", it's our policy and people aren't allowed to walk around. Excuse me? Was I imagining things? So we told our 7th to forget it and we'd have a quick drink and meet them. We sit down in a stupid semi-circle they set up for us where basically no one was comfortable or facing one another. They started off by apologizing (in suits and suspenders mind you, that's the waiters outfits) and told us parties of 7 can have a room downstairs for the absolutely absurd price of $600 minimum. This is a whiskey bar, we went for one drink... stupidest thing I've ever heard. After going back and forth whether or not I wanted to order a drink and give them my business at all I saw they had Hibiki which is a great Japanese whiskey. So I asked for an old fashioned with that as my base liquor. The waiter looked at me plainly and stated "no, we don't have that or do that". Incredulously I accepted whatever their house whiskey is in an old fashioned after they blatantly turned down a much more expensive drink I was volunteering to pay for. I Was baffled and turned off at the same time. My "old fashioned" ended up coming out completely watered down, no cubs, and barely any whiskey in it to speak of. My brother in law ordered a whiskey on the rocks, which ended up being served neat and had about one small splash in it. Never seen anything like it, this place labels themselves a whiskey bar. As we walk out the real cherry on top, there's an actual party of 7 yamming it up clearly not paying $600 minimum. Couldn't have asked for a worse experience for a simple drink in my life. The Brandy Library is a classy bar located in Tribeca. They're a classy establishment, serving ordinary drinks, finger foods, and tastings flights. Their spirits collection is extremely comprehensive, with many types and styles of liquors. Prices are very high for the portions. I would revisit if I wanted to try a specific type of alcohol in a classy environment. The venue has an air of sophistication. It's like library, but instead of books, you have vessels/boxes of rare liquors. They also have a bar and lounge chairs to chat at. Downstairs, they have another bar. It was quiet enough to have a nice conversation without stressing the voice. Service is friendly and knowledgable about alcohol. A group of us got an amazing tour of different beverages and we were able to learn about their origins and tastes. Brandy Library is a very nice place to have a drink with friends. I like how they have all the different bottles of alcohol all over. It literally looks like a library minus the books. The old fashioned was ok. Not the best I have had, it wasnt as smooth as the better ones I have had but overall not bad. My wife ordered a dirty vodka martini and was pleased with it. It had just the right amount of briney-ness from the olive juice and kick from the vodka. I would definitely suggest if you are looking for a date spot as well. So apparently you have to make reservations just to have drinks here. My friends and I came by here at 8:30pm on a Saturday and the place was full to capacity. Luckily the host was nice enough to take our number and called us when a space was available. 30 minutes later we were on our way to the Brandy Library! The space, obviously, has a library feel. There is a fireplace and shelves stocked with books and bottles of brandy. It's quiet enough to have a conversation. You are handed what seems like an encyclopedia of drink options. Liquors, spirits, tasting flights, cocktails, etc. Pages upon pages. After perusing the menu for what seemed an hour, I opted for 2 cocktails: Caipiroska and the Salty Dog. They were very strong and original. I really wish I enjoyed brandy. I think I would have appreciated Brandy Library a lot more, but still, a unique spot to get some drinks. read more

Brandy Library has a lovely selection of all kinds of different spirits, and if you wanted to geek out on them through flights, you certainly have that option. But they have an impressive array of cocktails too, and they certainly aren't perfunctory. The ambience is lovely - lots of copper stills and backlist shelves of - you guessed it - brandy, and all manners of spirits. Service was incredibly slow on a busy Saturday night - they only had two bartenders and what looked like just one or two servers for a room of about 30-40 people. I got the bacon-wrapped figs, and the steak tartare. The steak tartare was mindblowingly delicious. It was mixed up tableside, and I loved the piquancy of capers with the savory meat. My husband and I always make time to hit this spot when we come to New York. I recommend making a reservation if you can. They have a great selection of scotch, which is my husband's great love (besides me, lol). I'm not into fancy spirits but I enjoy a margarita or two and they didn't make me feel lke an ass for ordering something with a (gasp) mixer in it! You'd be surprised at the places who do, so I appreciate that. This most recent visit we had the deviled eggs and the sautéed mushrooms and the food was so good! The ambiance is warm and inviting and it's in a cool little are of TriBeCa if you want to do some wandering around before or after. If you're wondering what to wear; I saw all kinds of clothing there, but as is typical of New York, people do dress to impress. read more

A drinkers dream with enough choices to satisfy everyone's palate. This place is not for everyone- a more refined environment with a personalized service. If you're looking for a vodka soda or a draft beer this is not your place. I'm a Scotch, Bourbon, and Japanese Whisky guy and they have more than what I need. The service is very attentive and professional, as you would expect in such a place in such a neighborhood. To cap off a delicious dinner at adorable Mamo restaurant nearby, my party ambled over to Brandy Library on the blustery Saturday eve of January 26th for our 8:15 pm reservations. It was everyone's first time at Brandy Library and sadly disappointing. The male host was curt, chilly, and seated us at the dark, dank, and even chillier entrance. This gave us a lame view of the coat check, which we were not even offered upon arrival. The constant onslaught of other guests coming and going with their coats was distracting and further detracted from any ounce of ambience this hole might've had. We brought a guest hoping to impress, but failed miserably as we were chilled to the bone by the wintery air, couldn't see any of the allegedly nice decor this place is supposed to be known for, and could not get decent service in the sad seats where the host thoughtlessly stuck us. The menu includes foods (entrees and small bites), several tempting dessert options (molten lava cake, macaron, cheesecake, creme brulee, madeleines, etc), and an impressively extensive alphabetized and well organized drink menu with libations from all over the world. We settled on a red wine, a bourbon a la Blanton's, hot water, juice, and ice water. The wait staff came back with the wine, bourbon, and hot water shortly thereafter, but not the latter two. When we realized she forgot the rest of our order, we proceeded trying to find any server to provide us with water at least, which was difficult because we were seated in the boonies. We finally spotted our server again only because she returned to tend to a group behind us. She did successfully bring us water eventually. One of us went to the bathroom and simultaneously asked for the check, otherwise it could've been an eternity before we ever saw our waitress again. It's like Beauty and the Beast has a night with James Bond. It truly is a library full of beautiful bottles of alcohol (which are not limited to Brandy). This is my friend's go-to spot for a classy evening, and I'm surprised he doesn't bring every date here. As a single woman, I would be impressed to spend an evening sipping whiskey on one of the couches, although twice I've been here and sat at the bar and that's probably the best spot in the house. The first time I visited, they had a brioche with a dipping sauce that was kill-your-firstborn good, but subsequently they got rid of it (can't imagine why); however, it looks like they still have a nice selection of apps and sweet things to choose from. I am not an aficionado of whiskeys or brandy or the like, but I like to be educated--and this is the kind of place where the aficionados can woo away. read more

Brandy Library is the best place in New York City to get brandy. They have a wide variety of brandies here, from Cognacs, to Armagnacs, to Brandy de Jerez, eau du vies, and Calvados. No matter what you are looking for, if it is a brandy, they have it here -- and multiple varieties of it too. They even have a Pisco, although it is mostly for mixing with cocktails. The lighting is very low so be prepared, but otherwise it is a relaxing, classy, and upscale atmosphere. It is located in Fidi so that's somewhat to be expected. The service was prompt, helpful, and attentive. I highly recommend trying Brandy de Jerez here. It's very underrated, incredible, and reasonably priced. read more

What this place is lacking - basics of alcohol serving, selection of glassware, and quality of service. You maybe shelling out a $658 flat for a 25 years single malt 86 proof but you may not be able to enjoy a sip or two if you have the luck of slipping the glass through fingers due to missing napkins or just because of a sheer bad selection of a glassware type. Unfortunately, yours truly was in the similar luck! While at the request the bartender served a replacement drink but with no hesitation they put zero alcohol into the mix and therefore what started as a great night quickly turned into a b*tchfest! read more

So here I am. A whiskey lover at a place called Brandy Library. The name alone didn't bode well. But my fears where soon put to rest when the lingering smoke of a cigar waffled into my direction along with the haze of whiskey in the air. I knew I was in the right place. I entered. Semi casual. But ready to join my already waiting party. The staff where on point, ready to show me to my seat. The menu was vast and though there was no direct walk through, I was able to guide myself through the vast magnitude of brandys, tequila and whiskeys. Came here on a cold Monday night. I was surprised that even on a Monday there were a good number of people enjoying drinks at this bar. The place has a very old-school speakeasy vibe with plush chairs and dim lighting. The walls have bookshelves which are lined with every possible brown liquor (they seem to specialize in brandy, scotch, and whiskey but they also have a full bar). Our waiter was very knowledgeable, when asked to provide a scotch similar to something we knew he immediately had a suggestion that was also at about the same price point. There's also an extensive cocktail list featuring their favorite liquors. The place was quiet enough that we could have a conversation without raising our voices, but I imagine on busy weekends this could be more difficult. I would definitely recommend for a weekday date but I also saw a number of business groups here enjoying after work drinks. Can't wait to go back! read more

Very deep menu in a peaceful, gorgeous setting located right off Varick Street. The signature cocktails come at the steep price of $18 but the Isley Dawn I had was phenomenal, light yet full of deep, smoky flavor. The complimentary cheese choux was very delicious as well. I think that given all the recent talk about the source and quality of reviews on Yelp, I would do well to preface my comments with how an establishment such as Brandy Library might be interpreted differently by the various groups. Reviews | | Real (4) | (1) | Real | Fake ------------------------------------------ People | (3) | (2) | | Fake (1) Fake people, real reviews: now seriously, why do you have a need for anonymity? There are enough real people on Yelp who would enjoy knowing you and attaching a face to your opinions of Brandy Library. Go upload some pictures, name your profile the same as how your parental units named you, and get with the program! (2) Fake people, fake reviews: no, Brandy Library is not a moving company. And if you have something silly to say, at least join the legions of real people, fake reviews. That way, you can build a reputation of being a not-so-credible reviewer, and even have your applause meter register an enormous number of UFC votes! (3) Real people, fake reviews: one might thoughtfully digress to write a review about their best friend from Paducah, Kentucky. But once you write a "satirical parody" on a Dr. Mastrobattista, as an example, you squarely belong in this category. Such reviewers tend to come and go. They also tend to write well, and one can only hope they mend their ways. (4) Real people, real reviews: I have tried to associate myself with this category, knowing fully well that writing on Yelp is after all a nice hobby, nothing more. Well, it is also an avenue for running into interesting folks who I would otherwise not meet in my line of work or outside. I can imagine being a "hella good writer", but likely will never be one. Now that I have that out of the way, I must say that I was very pleased with my visit to Brandy Library. And would rate it as the best place for an after-work drink, bar none. Assuming you can get in. The library has an extensive selection of brandies, rums, whiskies and cocktails. And some wines and beers too. While we did not stay for long, I learnt enough to recognize that this is a library like no other. The walls are lined with a great variety of spirits, and the librarians are knowledgeable and polite. Ethan Kelley was our spirit sommelier -- articulate and welcoming. My Gin Gin Mule was well-made--sweet and spicy as promised. Had my friend and I stayed longer, I would have tried one of their rum, gin or whiskey based cocktails, for my second drink. The setting at Brandy LIbrary is a little too 'old boy's club' for my taste. And the crowd has more than its share of the Wall Street and law firm types. But that said, I wouldn't even begin to compare Brandy Library to Campbell Apartment, with its unpleasant service and snooty staff and crowd alike. I learnt that Brandy Library also has a 'spirit school' with Tuesday evening seminars on various spirits such as cognacs and bourbons. They do private events as well, and hold tasting events on Fridays. And, believe it or not, you can store your spirits in their facilities, I assume for a fee. You could also become a member, but I didn't check on the terms of membership. Brandy Library is within walking distance of my apartment. With the wintry winds blowing in our faces, and given the difficulty of getting a cab here to take me home, I was prompted to downgrade Brandy Library to four stars. But real people with real reviews don't do that sort of thing, I am told. read more
