Despite the times, the service was lovely and the outdoor space was great. They had hand sanitizers, masks, and social distance markers. I felt as safe as could be. Paired with the kombucha, I got the Mediterranean sandwich while my friends got the BLT and the Apple-Jalapeño sandwiches; they were perfectly portioned lunches and really delicious. To be continued.... Brandywine Kitchen was recommended by a few people and has mostly good reviews so I tried it. I was underwhelmed by my experience. Maybe my expectations were too high or maybe it's just what I ordered... I ordered a burger. The description on the board was far better than the actual burger. I think it was about $13. I would NEVER have paid that for the burger I got. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't get the burger again for any price. I think someone compared it to an In-N-Out burger in another review. That would be an accurate assessment. I would rather have had an In-N-Out burger for taste and price. Okay, with that said, their food looked good. I will go back and try again. However, they charge full-service restaurant prices and you have to bus you're own table and get your own water, etc. Come on, really!?! I hope it's worth it when I go back... read more

Food was great, wait time was not. I feel like we had to wait longer because there was some sort of party upstairs and the 2 servers kept running up and down the stairs for them. I so want to love Brandywine, but it is so unpredictable that I don't feel like we have a good relationship! I keep going back though because the basics feel right...like the menu, the location, the vibe. But the food is sometimes very good, other times quite mediocre....like last night. I tried 3 different orders of french fries and never did get a batch that was hot, crunchy and not overdone. The service can be really painful. That is a shame because the location is so convenient to Mt. Baker Theatre. However there is often drama even before we get to the show because our food takes 1/2 an hour and we have to gulp it down. Maybe they just need an older person to be in charge and manage the place?! read more

I have been dining here since they opened, and I have always left content. The logistics are different but not detrimental, and the food has always been 4-5 stars of quality. My current favorite is the 3B Burger; an amazing combo of flavors and textures. We will continue to have Brandywine as our go-to place for a meal. read more

My second visit. First was for lunch: a $13 salad, which was good but I felt over priced. Returned for a dinner and got the salmon and quinoa cakes, priced at 11.99. Again, ingredients first rate but serving very small: four cakes each about the size of a silver dollar with less than 50% of each cake salmon. Served on the side were four small tomatoes slices, three or four small avocado slices and four small cucumber slices. There was a large serving of French fries. You order at a counter and the food is delivered to your table, but that is about the extent of any "service" you would receive. The person taking my order was much more interested in sipping her drink, rather than engaging me in conversation or menu explanation. Not even a thank you! I saw patrons bussing their own table after eating. At these prices, for the quantity received, this is NOT good or acceptable value In my opinion: PASS. Tried this place based off of a couple recommendations. Sadly, did not get to try any food, or even get a glass of water, or a cocktail, or any actual service for that matter. We walked up to the bar top, which displayed the happy hour cocktail list, beer list, food menu, the usual stuff. We sat at the bar top for 10 minutes or so, no service, no greeting, employees walked by, repeatedly, but refused to acknowledge us or greet us in any way. The service we got was the opposite of friendly or helpful, it was nonexistent. We sat for another few minutes, but had to leave after receiving no greeting what so ever. If you have a bar, with happy hour menus on it, you should have someone working behind it. Would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Great local food at good prices. The environment is attractive, but kind of loud because of the brick walls and hardwood floor--there isn't much to absorb sound. That and the lackluster service each time I've been here is why I haven't rated it higher. I work in a service industry myself, so I know how hard it can be to deliver outstanding customer service day in and day out. But every time I've been here, I've felt like I'm imposing on the person taking my order, and that just isn't acceptable. The fish and chips are so good here that that's all I've ordered. The coating on the fish is gluten-free, yet delicious and fries up to crisp perfection. The basil aioli was a tasty accompaniment. I'd love to try other things on the menu, but with several other restaurants in town offering much friendlier service, it just isn't high on my priority list to return to explore Brandywine's menu. read more

Food quality is reasonable and the price is also reasonable. The facility is extremely loud even when it is not full due to acoustics of hardwood floor and brick walls. They look nice though! The primary reason for 2 stars is the staff. The woman at the counter treated the two people I was with and myself with a quiet contempt that was plainly on her face. She literally rolled her eyes and made a face when I switched my mind from side salad to soup. Then when I asked for a cup for water she just pointed vaguely in the direction of the (empty) water container. The cups that are almost identical to the other cups were behind the empty water dispenser and not clearly visible from the counter. If you like "seat yourself" type places, with limited hipster menu of decent quality and poor parking with a staff that acts like you are ruining their day - this is the place for you!!! read more

Came here yesterday with my fiance for lunch. Lots of seating and we were able to sit by the window and the place was very clean too my fiancée ordered the French dip and for a $12 sandwich you guys need to put more meat on it.... there was hardly any meat on my fiance sandwich...I've read from other Yelpers the same thing. . he said it was really good though but if you're going to charge that much for a dip please actually put meat on it... that's what people are paying for. I got the mac and cheese and it was really good but way too many almonds on top. Almost makes you feel sick. I also wish the person that was working let people know where the hot sauce and condiments were since its self serve. I also don't like how you have to bus your own table .....if I'm paying $30 for a meal here I shouldn't have to clean up after myself that's what you guys are for and then you guys actually have a tip jar at front. why am I going to tip you if you're not actually doing your job and you make your customers clean their tables???? it's not really cool my food was really good but I won't go out of my way to come here again. My first impression of BrandyWine was "wow, this place is so cute!" The exposed brick wall creates such a cozy feel, without being too much. At BrandyWine, you order at the counter and choose your own seat. Their fries might be some of the best fries I've had in Bellingham, and they have multiple aiolis to choose from! BrandyWine has also collaborated with organizations around Bellingham to host fundraising events, which I think is really amazing! read more

Was here for lunch. I had a flank steak "banh mi". I thought for 10.95 this would be the best banh mi I have ever had. It wasn't. The $3 ones in the international district are much better. I have had their soups at the farmers market and all have been really good. I will definatley go back as there are some things I really want to try omn the menu : th e quinoa pasta mac n cheese, gluten free fish and chips and the chicken pot pie. I was invited to join some friends at the art walk, they also mentioned they were coming here.... it had 2 years since my last visit, and its still open, maybe its better? So trying to be open minded about the place, off I go... placed my order at the counter, and the young lady at the counter was much more pleasant than the one from my previous visit... things were looking up! Until the food arrived, I was starving and ordered the fish and chips and an order of the cheese bread (in reality it was an order of bread, that someone accidentally spilled a couple of tiny bits of cheese on, then started to toast it but stopped just in time before it got good!) it was pretty pathetic. The fish and chips were the worst I have ever had, by a mile... I was amazed at how anyone could take ALL the flavor out of food... and I do mean ALL... it tasted like nothing. It wasnt very crispy, it had no flavor, and the chips were more limps. Seriously, I have had MUCH better fish out of a box in the freezer section of the grocery store. This one of the worst meals I have had in a very long time.... next time... Ill do the art walk, and pass on dinner if it is here. read more

Throughout my entire experience here, all I could think was...something is missing....something is missing...what is it?...what is missing? It wasn't salt, because the pot pie was too salty. The mac and cheese could have used a little more flavor--granted it's the best gluten-free mac and cheese I've ever had. We did have a pulled pork over steak fries happy hour dish. The thing was good--but the sort of dry quality you'd expect from bar food. The girl behind the counter seemed disinterested in our presence, which was kind of off-putting. The least she could have done was smile. "What a bitch" sums that up nicely. Overall, I feel the prices are a little spendy for something so mediocre--especially with the help-yourself thing they have going on. As much as I want to come back and support a new local business, I don't think I will. I think I know what was lacking: a love of preparing and eating good food and sharing that love with people around you. The food tastes like something you could make at home out of leftovers after a long day at work...except the Eggplant Parmesan I made the other day is way tastier than theirs...even after sitting in my fridge for two days. read more

I've been a fan of this place since they were at the farmer's market. Before I quit gluten I thought their sandwiches were really good. Now I don't eat gluten and I love that I can go here any time I have a craving for fries. Usually I cannot eat them (cross-contamination in the fryer is bad) and any potatoes that are grown conventionally (non-organic) are defoliated with the main ingredient in agent orange (paraquat) before harvesting. So the only potatoes I will eat are organic. I just LOVE that they make an effort here for their patrons who are trying to make healthy choices. I've had the mac & cheese, it was rich and delicious. The salmon cakes are another fave (they used to put these in a delicious sandwich that was messy to eat). I used to love that chicken jalapeno sandwich. The butternut squash soup is delicately balanced and I am picky about squash soup. I would like to see some tacos that have something other than beef or pork. Also a GF pot pie would be appreciated. The desserts are pretty good too. I've had GF desserts there before I stopped eating gluten and they were good. The desserts with gluten in them were the best though. The specials are usually pretty good too. Sure it costs more than a little deli, but it's made with much higher quality and often local ingredients. If you care about what you eat, this is a great place. Love the hard cider in the chilled mason jars, especially on a hot day. read more

I ate at Brandywine Kitchen with my family for the first time last night and we all came out with a great feeling about the place and all enjoyed our meals. This place is very Bellingham, local ingredients and drinks, low-key order at the counter cafe style, and several Gluten Free choices on the menu. The french fries were really good and usually I don't rave about fries that aren't sweet potato fries. Their menu has soup, salads, sandwiches and a half dozen entrees. We all shared bites and everything I tasted was great. I am certainly going to go back! read more

Five stars because everything was like home here. You enter and towards the back is the cashier you order the food from. We both had the Texas BBQ sandwiches and a cup of their tomato bisque soup. Sandwiches came with our choice of salad or fries and we chose the salad...it was yummy! Filled with organic greens and slivered beets,corn and nuts...it was almost a meal itself! The pulled pork sandwich was on a roll and cut in half and topped with some green onions and aioli...very tasty!. Stopped in B'ham for lunch after leaving Whistler and getting through the border mess. Wanted a place near the Spark Museum, and found Brandywine. The space it's in is really cool, and the food is decent. I had chicken pot pie which was a little smaller than expected for the $11 price tag, but it was tasty. My daughter wasn't as thrilled about her mac & cheese which was infused with onions or leeks or something. My son's burger was fine, although the oversized bun was a mismatch for the smallish burger. read more

I like the atmosphere of the restaurant but the staff is a little aloof, not rude but also not welcoming if that makes sense. I like that they have outdoor seating on warmer days. Absolutely wonderful and SO friendly! OMG, I have been back many times, since I discovered this Bellingham treasure, just a few months ago. I was there today with ten ladies. Yet again, it exceeded all expectations, for ALL. Wonderful food. The staff is so accommodating and welcoming to large groups like ours (something we certainly missed at places such as the pepper sisters). The owner came up to see us and ask us if we needed anything and ask if all was well. We felt very welcome and had so much fun! The desserts are something else. I have tried many things, since I was here the first time, but today, I went for my old FAV - the French Dip - better than ever. The best au jus I have ever had. The food is always fresh and it feels good for you, not something you'd be guilty about but is still absolutely delicious. I recommend the salmon cakes and fries, with the remoulade sauce! Update - 11/20/13: Brandywine - don't fail us now! I've had many wonderful meals at your restaurant, but lately you seem to be losing interest in me. I've changed my hair, worn heels, smiled prettily at the bartender - all to no avail! The crab cakes are smaller, more expensive and - on my visit last week - overcooked. The salads have shrunk as well. Bathrooms smell like stale urine. . . I want to go out with you again, but it just feels like you aren't making any effort on my behalf. . . Wow! I wish it hadn't taken me so long to get in here! A friend took me for my birthday and I've introduced two new fans since then. The salmon quinoa cakes were nutty, moist and flavorful. The salads are full of interesting ingredients and delightfully fresh. My friend joked about the "organic fries" - she has a point - once you deep fry something it scarcely matters what health benefits it previously had - but the fries are great - shoestring cut, peel on, crispy and tasty. The only food I was lukewarm about was the portobella sandwich - the mushroom was cut in pieces and drowning in cheese - just not my cup of tea. . . Excellent food! Homemade breads, tasty sauces, local farm-fresh ingredients. Came here for lunch and had a flank steak sandwich, which was one of the daily specials, and it was awesome. Flank steak can be easily goofed up, but Brandywine did it right. Restaurant reminded me of places I've been to in NY, with its brick walls and high ceilings. Local artwork featured as decor, which is fun to see. Format is order at the counter/bus your own dishes. Prices quite reasonable for the quality of food. Could easily see this place changing formats to have waiters and then charging twice as much. read more
