As with most pubs frequented by students in Swansea the drinks are cheap and served by young trendy surfy/skater types. The pub plays host to a variety of live music nights and the introduction of the smoking ban this year fuelled the addition of a covered outdoor area which used to be just picnic benches but is now quite a lovely decked fairy-lit alcove. The Tav' also boasts a bit of history as it is reported to be one of the drinking dens of Wales' most famous poet and alcoholic, Dylan Thomas. This fact is marked by the Dylan Thomas Snug within the pub.

We called in here last week for the first time in a LONG time, and really enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the lovely Summer weather, so much we called back the next Day with a couple of friends too, and we all had some lovely Ciabatta's, and another thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. This Pub seems to have now got a new lease of life, judging by the amount of people here in the last week or so. Nice to see this Pub busy again, we will be going back soon

Showcasing new bands most nights of the week plus the odd battle of the bands type competition. Tidy size bar for the punters and a nice small stage for the bands like Kane'd, Sons of Pioneers, AOV, The Good Things and many more to strut their stuff on.

Unfortunately where I was sat the beepity beepity bong of an attention seeking quiz machine somewhat disrupted any spell. Evans Evans Warrior from a barrel behind the bar was good and Theakston dark made for a competent sidekick (The supervillians being The Speckled Hen and The Abbot). Looks like they normally have a couple of beers served from the barrel, but possibly by Sunday a weekends heavy drinking had weakened them.

I've only ever seen one on at a time - when it runs out, another is tapped - but it's always worth trying a pint (it's quite reasonably priced, about £2.50 a pint right now). The staff are lovely, the pub quiz on a monday night is always packed with a mix of older locals and younger students (getting along fine!), and there's often live music courtesy of local bands and singer/songwriters.

Beer prices are reasonable too. From the outside the place looks quite small but inside it is very long & narrow plus subtely lit. Have live music there ocassionally although most of the time you have soft jazz and easy listening music piped through the speakers. Staff on the whole are friendly & helpful although the service can be a little slow. On the whole a nice place to chill ou away from the bustle of the city centre.

The Grand has hosted some fantastic shows, as well as concerts and also has an Art Wing which as well as hosting some great exhibitions has lunchtime performances and a Comedy Club on a regular basis. Acoustics are great in the theatre and even up in the eaves of the Upper Circle performances are clear to hear. There are a few restricted view seats but they are generally sold at lower prices and having sat in one a couple of times, only slightly restricted for most performances.

It's an old, slightly falling apart Victorian theatre - you know the kind, gilding throughout, red velvet seats (bit shabby though, now), stalls, circle, upper circle Now that I'm a super mega star in London, Swansea Grand Theatre seems to be a quaint relic. The programming here is not great, big touring musicals and big name comedians mostly - as well as the panto of course. Which Neighbours star will feature this year? There is an Arts Wing upstairs which allows for slightly more interesting studio performances of smaller shows. Another strong memory for me was ballet classes here on a saturday morning - entering through stage door and scrambling through all the back passages, past dressing rooms and stage exits to get to the dance studios. Felt very showbiz as a kid. The Footlights cafe bar downstairs is alright, but because the theatre is located right in the middle of the city centre, you can find lots of places to enjoy a pre/post show drink/bite.

Even though I came on an obviously really busy night, it was still pretty easy to find plenty of seats. ~ Slightly related, a lot of room. Despite all the flaws I've kept going over the course of two years in Swansea, it definitely has something that the other clubs don't, check it out if you're into the music.
