Flash forward almost thirty years later and my wife suggests stopping by on a last minute trip to Branson. My 9 year old son seemed really excited to go so of course I agreed to give it a shot. A little underwhelming and annoying at first, the selection was basically one wall but my kid couldn't make what seemed to be a simple decision, I was ready to bolt about five minutes after we arrived. But then, it happened...my kid decided on his new best friend. It wasn't the cool outfits that changed my mind, it sure as hell wasn't the gaggle of screaming kids or the drained faces of almost every other father perusing the same choices over and over and over, nope, wasn't that. It was my kids face. When he finally made the choice to go with a red fox. When his eyes lit up after he discovered a Riddler costume hidden behind a couple Batman outfits. When he stood in line waiting for his chance to bring his new friend to life. Pretty well completely hands on, all except the stuffing and closing up of the plushie, the process of "building-a-bear" was nothing short of magical. Easily my son's favorite part of the trip and we had done it all at that point. He was asked to hold the creatures little stuffed heart and make a wish, the smile on his face when that heart was inserted into his fox, when the stuffing started to fill the little plush body, when he got to select a name and was handed an official birth certificate; these are a few of things that made it all worth it and made me almost forget the dreadful hour I waited for him to decide on a carcass to stuff and what to dress it with. That's the magic of Build-A-Bear, the end result. The way it makes a kid feel to have something so personal and hand picked come to life. To other disgruntled dads who are ready to just "get the show on the road", if you have young kids make the stop. This was definitely worth the time and money.

We were told the shoot would take longer than the time we had to spare. As it turned out, it took much longer to get to the theater for some reason. We came back after the show and the girls took time getting us dressed and taking single and couple shots of wife and I in Victorian era attire. We were told, both smile, then she smile, he not smile, which is what we settled with. The girls were very hospitable and I had good vibes from them. The process of picking one photo out of all was cool. It was like going to the eye doctor and picking the prescription. You like this pic, or do you like this pic? This goes on till you have the final pic. It worked out good. We got a free 8x10 for our gift card, bought 2 5x7's for our children and had them all put in old timey frames. Very endearing bookstore near the flea market district! Despite its limited space, this shop was…read morequite well stocked. I saw many new and popular books, as well as used and even ex-library. Books are organized by genre only, so you have to hunt for things, but personally I enjoy that. The owner was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. If I lived nearby I'd be in here all the time!
