Wasted Talent To preface, we have been to Brasa almost a dozen times in the past. One of the restaurants to go to for Portuguese food in Bridgeport. That being said, in order to eat the great food, one has to be able to order it!! When we arrived at the restaurant there were two other couples at tables in the dining area and the bar area had maybe eight or nine people. So it was by no means busy. We ordered drinks and we knew what we were going to order having been there multiple times, that was when we were ghosted by the waitstaff. Not sure if this was a miscommunication between one waiter to another or what happened. We waited for twenty minutes. No one, Nothing! During that time frame the other table received their food, and not even a glance over to meet the eyes to order. A few minutes later i finished the drink and at this point i had to flag a waiter who was seating another customer to bring me my check. A minute later (25 minutes since first contact) a waitress shows up. I explained that i would like my check that we were leaving. Paid and left for good. Shame and very disappointing that such a fine back of the house kitchen has such a dysfunctional front of the house. The food came out pretty quick, I thought it was slightly over priced, and I was right... The service was great! And the vibe is good too. I ordered a Medium Steak. Came here for their lunch special yesterday and had a great time. The special includes two sides and entree plus a glass of house wine. It is a great value with generous portions. The quail with rice and beans was delicious. My friend loved the branzino. The cocktails are worth a visit alone! They have a spacious dining area with an outdoor covered and non covered patio. Second visit to Brasa was excellent! Option to dine inside or out. Returned to have Bife Na Pedra-steak cooking on a rock (that was my plan). Fantastic! The pics do not do it justice. Steak arrives on a hot, steaming rock-so unique. Popular dish and most fun to "cook" and season at the table. Delicious. Also again ordered the quail which is so delcious! A must. Cute local restaurant, good service, friendly crowd and staff, food is ok but lacks any flavor, I ordered a steak rare it was clear it was frozen before cooked and not fresh, the meat was pink and white and I was really expecting it to be brown, red and juicy on the inside. Food is ok for a local place but for the prices listed on the menu food really needs to be fresher and have better flavor. If I could give this place a 10 star I would! Wow! The aroma of the spices in the food makes your mouth water!!!!! We ordered a special Branzino Geraldo it's a fish with potatoes and veggies, and potatoes, omg! With a seafood stuffing that will make your toes curl, lol. Food made in typical Portuguese fashion -- which is very simple and uncomplicated-- so it's really not that good but with a little more effort it could be much better. This was the first time trying Brasa after hearing so many reviews. The reviews were right! The food is amazing. We ordered the octopus, clams and pork, and paella. All wonderful. The octopus was so tender and perfectly charred. I only wish that I dined in instead of out so I caulked have taken advantage of the lovely outdoor dining patio. read more

OBSESSED with this place. If you love traditional Portuguese food with a spin this is the place to go. I have been here several times and I like to try something new every time I go. So far I've tried the veal and tiger shrimp (MY FAV comes in a delicious garlicky sauce), grilled salmon, fried quail, grilled octopus, mariscada (giant platter of seafood), caldo verde,grilled lobster,and lobster paella. Everything has been really delicious so far and super fresh. I like to get an app to share before eating because it takes a little while for your entree to arrive and you can definitely taste the freshness and care that they put into each dish. The staff are also very friendly Gabi & Caio specifically are amazing employees who go beyond to make sure that everything is exactly to your liking. The best part about this place in my opinion, beyond the great food, is that they are extremely accommodating. Something wrong with your food? They'll fix it. Don't like your cocktail? They will remake it. Sometimes I see other reviews with people who are dissatisfied with their meals and personally, if I'm paying for something and it doesn't come out the way I like it, I'll say something. They're super friendly and don't make you feel weird for asking for a redo. As another review mentioned they sometimes do Karaoke on weekend nights and Thursday... so sometimes it's a little loud. I don't mind it personally as I come from a loud Brazilian family I enjoy the music while eating but, I know not everything enjoys that type of environment. If you go on a Tuesday or Wednesday night it's usually a more relaxing environment. Lastly, they also are very accommodating for parties and small gatherings here. I had a birthday dinner here in April of this year and it was the best dining experience I've had on a birthday. It was very relaxing and they went the extra mile to make sure my party was well taken care of. And they do to go in case you wanna eat a yummy dinner in your pjs at home. We decided to try this place out because of a recommendation. But as soon as we walked in, no one came to greet us or seat us. We waited around for a couple of minutes and saw several staff members but no one looked our way. I had to get someone's attention to ask if we had to seat ourselves. Once we were seated, about three different waitresses came to ask us the same questions. When we finished our drinks, they didn't offer if we would like a refill on our beverages. This is a very nice little spot. Had the codfish with sautéed peppers and onions. But it actually didn't come with any peppers but that's ok just wish they would have told me. It used to be Italian but changed to Brazilian so why not give it a try AMBIANCE - very nice decor and comfortable seating ENTRANCE - there was no hostess so we meandered about till a nice lady sat us at a nice table. Not very crowded but you could tell the other patrons were regulars speaking Portuguese a real find if you are looking for authentic cuisine APPETIZER - I had the octopus salad that was really good and perfectly prepared. Wife had black bean soup that was very authentic and flavorful ENTREE- I tried the Brazilian skirt steak which unfortunately came out tepid rather than hot. Stopped in at this place to get a bite to eat. The restaurant has a bar area with tables and a regular dining area in the back. We sat in the dining room because the bar area seemed to be having a karaoke night, I'll get back to that later. There was no one seated in the dining area so service was quick. For starters I had the seafood bisque, I was expecting it to be on the thick side which is normally how I have had it in the past but it wasn't. It was loaded with mussels, calamari, shrimp and clams. The broth was extremely flavorful. I definitely enjoyed the soup. For dinner I had the churrasco with French fries and unfortunately I was not as pleased with the entree as I was with the soup. The steak was not flavorful and actually was a bit on the tough side. Secondly it was served with fries but the fries were nothing special, no seasoning or flavor to them. My girlfriend had the mussels and she said they seemed to be over cooked. I was a bit disappointed because I really like the items on their menu and was having a difficult time in choosing. Maybe we just picked the wrong things on the menu and possibly another visit might have better results? Well safe to say if we go back it won't be on a Thursday. Everything was just off. First time we went sat at bar on a Tuesday. Joao took good care of us but food was very slow to arrive. Second time we went added my mother and 19yo son. Was a disaster from the start. Was about 2/3 full, Never greeted by server, drinks took forever. My sons two appetizers came out quickly but all of the other expected items took another 20 min. A true Portuguese experience! Beautiful red building with patio seating, a cozy bar area and several areas for regular dining. It's so easy to eat gluten free, keto, or any other sensitivity here because of the simplicity of Portuguese cooking. My husband and I got Portuguese style steak with ham and egg and pork with bacon. They kindly substituted broccoli rabe for chips on mine, and both dishes were succulent! Just the right amount of garlic, flame grilled and olive oil to truly make your mouth water. When Taberna closed last year, the short list of dining options in Bridgeport's North End grew even shorter. While you don't have to go all that far to get good food, it was nice having a great place in the neighborhood. Thankfully, Madison Pub has filled the gap left by Taberna. It's actually in the same spot with a fresh coat of paint and some changes on the inside. There is a connection between the former owners and those at Madison Pub, so while there are quite a few casual options on the menu, there are also plenty of finely prepared dishes that are perfect for a nice night out. My go-to appetizer is definitely the buratta. I have had this cheese at other places and Madison's is the creamiest and best. It's drizzled with balsamic vinegar and served along with roasted red peppers and greens I also liked the smoked salmon appetizer, which is served with chopped egg, capers, onion, and toasted bread. Most restaurants have this on the brunch menu, but I think it's a great pre-dinner option. The last time I was there it was not available, so ask before you order so you don't get your hopes up. On one of my visits, I had the salmon entree, which was nicely prepared and plated. Another time, I had the fish taco, which was perfect for a lighter meal or if you are ordering several small plates. For dessert, I ordered the gelato, which was the perfect ending to the meal with three hearty-scoops of the frozen treat. I loved the twist they put on rice pudding. It's served in a ceramic dish and the top is crisped like creme brulee. The crispy sweet top and an artfully cut strawberry turn a standard dessert into a delicious work of art. During each of my visits service at Madison Pub has been excellent. On my last two visits Lidier went above and beyond to ensure a top notch dining experience. I am thrilled that Madison Pub has opened its doors in the neighborhood and I expect it will be a regular stop for dinner and drinks. read more

I had lunch with family last week at Brasa Pub & Restaurant in Bridgeport. We were quite impressed with the décor, ambiance, presentation and service. Regrettably, the food is anything but Portuguese; it only looks so. Somewhat. If you are Portuguese and/or have lived in Portugal, you will know you are not eating Portuguese cuisine. If you have been in both countries, as I have, you will immediately notice the Brazilian influences. Unfortunately, when you attempt to please both tastes, willingly or not, you please neither. I was not at all surprised when I was informed that the chef is Brazilian. I'm willing to bet he was never in Portugal and has no idea about the culinary. I wish he made a visit there and learned to cook with some simple ingredients, such as olive oil, wine (lots of wine!), garlic, onions, parsley, cilantro, paprika, salt and pepper - the staples of everyday Portuguese cooking. dined in on 5/28 for a table of about 9 people. made a reservation for 8pm, we did not receive our food until 10:30pm. I'll give it two stars because I have enjoyed this restaurant multiple times before and the food is tasty- but I would never expect to wait this long for a meal.. although the owner thinks a 2hr wait for food is acceptable. we will never be going back, considering the wait and disrespect from the owner. I had bragged to my family about this place, so I took them on a holiday weekend w/ a reservation. first- the clams are delicious- but the portion was half it's normal. quite disappointing. Next, after waiting 2hrs for our meals, a steak was overcooked and a hair found in the risotto. Lastly, I ordered the "grilled" octopus which came out Luke warm, not grilled, in a bed of oil. When I asked to speak to the person in charge, it took 20 minutes for a woman to come to our table and state, "who would like to talk to me? I've been busy in the kitchen". I then raised my hand and stated I was the one who would like to speak to her. now, I had all intentions of giving constructive criticism (because I have enjoyed this place before), but unfortunately the owner came toward me very defensively. Again, stating a 2hr wait is to be expected and normal, she also said we should have canceled the table and left. (mind you my family from our of state was here catching up at 10pm on a Saturday night, no where else would have been able to accommodate this many people short notice.). She took my meal off the bill and gave us a bottle of sangria- not sure that balances out my $500+ bill and 2+ hrs of my life wasted. I just wanted to let the public know, if you go here, expect a longer than usual wait. Sadly, I am extremely turned off by the way the owner handled herself, it was the icing on the cake for me. I will be sharing on all platforms so the public is aware of what they are dealing with. Read back through all the comments, I wish I had before ever going here. We went for a FRIENDS GIVING so there was about 10 of us. The atmosphere was okay nothing fancy but okay. The appetizers were very tasty. We had calamari coconut shrimp and a tray of salami and olives (and some other stuff) For my entree the Seafood paella with lobster caught my eye so I ordered it. Everyone got their food before me even the ones who ordered steaks and pork. I found it odd since seafood doesn't take long to cook. My girls were about half way through before I got my meal. The lobster was SKIMPY AND OVER COOKED. So much so that the tail was black from burn marks. Needless to say I didn't eat it. The rest of the paella lacked flavor. I figured I'll take it home and possibly doctor it up. When the waitress came to the table I politely mentioned that the lobster was over cooked. SHE GRINNED AND CONTINUED TO MOVE ON. Never did she offer something else or apologize she just gave me a smile and started speaking to the other girls. I ordered the steak on a skewer medium rare: One came overdone medium well, and the other was barely medium but we didn't have time to send back and re-order.
