One of our best meals in Lyon, even President Marcon dined here on the same night we were there. Its upscale, especially if you eat indoors. Lots of suits and well dressed people (dresses, jackets and slacks, etc). We had come after the Women's World Cup so was a tad under dressed, but they were polite and kind and said it was ok to dine there. PLAT: A few got the salad lyonnaise. The lardons are huge, it's a meal in and of itself. The croutons are crispy and butter nuggets of delicious carb. The poached egg is done to perfection. The lettuce is frisse so it delicate. They have a plat and entree size, and the plat was generous (it was a deep bowl!) The burrata came with ratatouille, which was also generous in portion. It's very rich, oh so creamy and cool and tasty. The ratatouille had a nice deep rich tomato base and the vegetables (in cubes vs circular slices) had a nice structure to hold up well to the creamy cheese. Also shareable. Last plat was the foie grais pate. That crust is so buttery, flakey and delicious. The pate was equally good. It came with cornichons and salad on the side. This was sharable too, but I didn't ;) ENTREE: The star entree was the poulet (chicken) stew. It's 100% comfort food that you can't stop eating until everything is gone. In addition to chicken, there were carrots and potatoes. The beef tartare was wonderful, rich, robust, little bit of heat (I think tabasco?). It was also a generous amount. It came with sliced potatoes. The steak and potatoes came with a rich, brown sauce to drizzle over the steak. So, so, so good. Between the chicken stew sauce/gravy and the brown sauce, there were so many delicious flavors around. Last entree was the sweetbreads, so tender, perfectly prepared, very delicate. MUST SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT. If you are a chocolate lover, the chocolate financier (cake) was so rich (think ganache) but not overly sweet. Chocolate lovers will be transported. As it was during a blistering heatwave through parts of Europe, I went with the meringue. Light, airy, crispy with the sweetest strawberries and raspberries. I'm not the biggest fans of raspberries but these seem to have sugar filled in the center (it didn't, but that sweetness was so perfect). then there is the marshmellow/praline/ice cream dish, which I have no clue what the name is. We saw it coming out of the kitchen and knew we had to have it. GET IT, again, this is if you want something other than chocolate. If you love chocolate and can enjoy a rich dessert after a spectacular meal, the chocolate cake is out of this world. the one thing is that the menu only has the plat/entree. For drinks/dessert, the waiter reads it off to you from memory. The challenge with this is you don't know the prices until the bill comes. read more

We were a large group with a last minute reservation and this establishments stepped up to our requirements. The service was lovely, the large banquet style room was beautiful and the food was delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic meal in Lyon, you will not be disappointed. read more

This restaurant has a very long history with a line of very famous guests from presidents to actors. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food is out of this world. We wish you many stars to come. read more

Certainly a unique menu, several Lyonnaise classics offered alongside a 'healthy' section featuring antii-oxidant shakes and "low-cal" choices for those looking to perhaps shed some weight, the building housing Leon de Lyon is itself quite luxurious with high-ceilings and belle-epoque styling while service is prim and proper, most staff members fluent in English which seemed befitting considering the number of tourists dining throughout the space. Passing once more on wine, here treated to a bottle of surprisingly cold water plus a blend of juices with fennel, the meal began with a basket of warm bread paired to briny tapanade as opposed to butter, a quartet of golden gougeres arriving shortly thereafter with Saint-Marcellin filling and herbal Cervelle de Canut at their side. Happily sticking to the classics, though several unique options including veal foot and an impressive pork rib are offered, it was not long before a starter of Pate en croute was presented with golden brioche overlying sweetbreads, foie gras, chicken, plus aspic and although decent despite not being quite as funky as some other versions from the trip, the 15.90€ seemed quite excessive when accounting for both quality and quantity served. Left without choice but to wrap the trip with another quenelle de brochet, suffice it to say that although the crustacean laced stock was thick and rich the omelet itself was both small and dense without much flavor from the pike, and setting aside while rice in favor of two desserts the 'doughnuts' presented more like Italian fried dough than actual beignets while the bread pudding proved a far better choice by packing buttery brioche with molten dark chocolate, then adding nuance with ice cream of fresh cheese. read more

Observed some mixed reviews last year and were not sure what to expect.Went there with family and younger kids and must say the hospitality was very nice and professional . Food was above the average bouchon honesty . Well served and presented and scallops with creme was light and pleasant and not the typical thick sauce. Desserts were prepared with lots of attention and one should try the pain perdu as one of its classics. A good chablis was of course a no brainer to come along read more

In town for a conference and nominated as "dinner planner" always a thankless task. Confirmed for 10..then 11...oh 14 now?!? Reception desk was very helpful in coordinating with restaurant to ensure they could accommodate our increasing numbers. No English menus (I am fine with that but my colleagues...sigh). This restaurant was recommended by our hotel, and was one of the VERY few open on May 1, a national holiday in France. Great recommendation, and we hereby add our own. Very typical Lyonnaise cuisine, served by a young waiter who was nonetheless a consummate pro. Standouts: cold carrot soup; duck pate, turbot in court bouillon. Dessert was a completely over-the-top chocolate torte: sinfully rich, served with vanilla cream. To die for. In short, a wonderful dining experience. read more

Great place to check out. I got the cream of broccoli soup, salmon and fruit compote with scoop of mango sorbet. Excellent combination of home, fancy and sweet. My husband went a la carte with the fried Andoilette and we don't suggest it - even for Lyon this was too heavy. # of tables make this place huge...much bigger than most Lyon restaurants. Side note: They hosted Bill Clinton here and have great artwork en route to the bathroom. read more

I was taken here by some friends who are locals and told me about how the owner opened this place as a lower-pressure alternative to maintaining a Michelin-starred restaurant, but with similar high food standards. It certainly was excellent, I had some wonderfully smooth and subtle pate, a duck main dish, and a chocolate fondant dessert with ice cream. It was just short of the best places I've eaten in France, and the service was sometimes a little inattentive, but I would still recommend it highly. read more

Wait staff was helpful, smart and friendly. The food was fantastic, but some plates came up under-seasoned for my tastes. The prices are great. Their English translations were slightly off (they listed a dish as Hare that was wild boar) but overall the experience was fantastic. read more

Overpriced, average food, ridiculously small cheese plate...and terrible wine. The last one hurt the most since we are in a country famous for wine. And when I pay €7 for a glass of wine, I expect an enjoyable experience! Not recommended. Only the service was good. read more

This is a pretty old-school place, and I quite liked that. My salade lyonnaise was amazing; sort of deconstructed but with all the classic elements. The quenelle was fantastic, it came drenched in a savoury Nantua sauce and served with a little tin of basmati rice. Nice wine selection and an efficient, attentive waiter who was nearly invisible except when he was needed (perfect, IMO - I need service, not a new friend). read more

Terrible. Possibly the worst meal I have had in France. We had the menu for 25.50 each which involved an entree, main and dessert. My fish soup was watery and slightly offensive, the main was a pile of plain pasta with. Rabbit leg with some mustard seeds on it. The apple tart was so bad I couldn't finish it. I saw 5 euro wine from the supermarket for 28 on the menu. read more

We stumbled upon this place randomly trough Yelp. Were pleased to find out they could sit us without a reservation. There isn't an English menu. But that's fine because we are in France and we had been using an app to translate French words to English words. Translation isn't perfect so its always a risk by ordering something we don't really have an idea what it is. Here the waiter speaks good English. The meals were excellent. We ordered classic Lyon dishes which centres a lot around pork. If you don't really like pigs stomach, tripe or ears, do ask the waiter what you are ordering. We had some idea of what was coming to the table. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to try some classic Lyon food. read more

Great setting and the food was good, but the service was atrocious! After having experienced a fantastic meal and service at Paul Bocuse de l'Institute, we were eager to try his Brasserie. Sadly, though, the experience left much to be desired. Were were a party of four and when we arrived, there were very few patrons in the establishment. After being led to our table, we waited at least 15 minutes before we were given menus and then a minimum of another 20 minutes before we could even order a bottle of water. It was a very hot and humid evening, so we were desperate for water and still they were not quick about providing us with water. We were hungry so hoped the service would improve after we made our food and wine selection. Unfortunately, though, the service continued to be poor. We felt like we had been shoved in a corner and forgotten about. There service was much better for the patrons around us who also arrived after us. Our entrees and main courses arrived fairly promptly and were to die for! BUT we waited for more than 45 minutes for our dessert, so we cancelled dessert and asked for our bill. After another 30 minutes of pure frustration we simply went to the host desk so that we could pay and make our escape from that hellish experience. It was a most unpleasant way to end what had been a fantastic day. read more

Rudest service I've ever experienced. We were 5 people and waited 30 minutes to be spoken to and then were treated extremely rudely while we were choosing our champagne. Let me add, the restaurant was also empty. We ended up getting up and leaving. read more

So... This place, before leadership changed, was the best meal I had had in my life. IN MY LIFE. And I used to live in France and have had some impressive meals. Anyway, that's over now... So if you have an old guide book, understand that this is not the same concept/place that it once was. Though it is a good bouchon, and the decor is old school. But tragic that they downgraded it, because before they changed it... It was exquisite. read more
