    Martini perfection

First timers and won't be the last. The perfect slice of Parisian life in a cute all day cafe. You can seriously stay there all day as menus range from pastry to brunch to happy hour to dinner. We had a lovely time at the bar for HH. One of the most delightful martinis I have had (quinoa vodka!!??). Service was lovely, we leisurely snacked on a few items - the bread and butter was exceptional (that good French butter!). Prices outside of happy hour are really reasonable but the HH itself was a great deal with 30% off all wine bottles and cocktails and a long list of curated snacks. Wish we lived closer. Can't wait to go back! Highly recommend reservations for peak hours as this is a very quaint spot with limited tables.

This place is not like the elevated French fine dining places in Phoenix, which are quiet and fancy. This restaurant literally makes you feel like you are in a neighborhood restaurant in France - the space is loud (in a good way), small but intimate. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were all super friendly. The food was good as well! The dishes were simple but well executed. I specifically loved their French onion soup - it was cheesy on top, but the soup was broth-based, thin and flavorful. Also, I don't really like chocolate that much, but I LOVED that chocolate fondue! It was rich, nutty and not too sweet, which went perfectly with strawberries. Highly recommend!!

Perfection with the croissants and bevs

Wow! I'm always on the lookout for the best croissant. Once we heard there was a new brasserie not too far away, couldn't resist checking it out and Brasserie Melrose did not disappoint in the least! Super cute spot on the corner of 7th Ave. Great ambience, get your pastries and order your coffee downstairs and then head upstairs where we sat outside in the sun on the patio. It really couldn't have been a better vibe. I can imagine having lunch of dinner up here would be perfection. Chocolate croissant, butter croissant, cappuccino, and a Parisian latte. All of it was exceptional. My other favorite pastries in the Valley are Essence and Chaccone, and this is right there. Truly. The latte was one of the best I've had in a long time and I will be back for another soon. The service was friendly, prompt to order, and someone checked in on us while we sat outside. Definitely will be back for morning coffee and croissants and dinner or lunch soon. Happy to see this place here and hoping the best for them. Highly recommended! Note: parking is tricky and only a couple spots in back so walk over if you're close by or park off 7th on a side street.

The initial impression of Brasserie Melrose had me excited. The pastry and croissants downstairs looked promising. The chocolate croissant was alright, I've had much better ones near the area. The smoked salmon and ham & gruyere was decent. Unfortunately the good ended there. All wait staff in the dining area seemed like they were new and didn't know their roles. Just to place our order, it took way too long for our waitress to understand and use the handheld device. On to the food. The French onion soup was ok at best. Seasoning was non existent, having to add salt just to make it bearable. Escargot was not bad, a little bit on the saltier side, opposite of the soup. Jambon Beurre, just think of a homemade sandwich with ham and cheese, it reminded me of school cafeteria food. Moules Frites was just ok; I've had better mussels in white wine sauce at pretty much any other places I've been to. Overall, we all left disappointed.

Fantastic pastries! We walked in on a Saturday morning and the place smelled heavenly. I love the black and white decor. The person that took our order was efficient and we ended up getting a pain au chocolat, a cheese and bacon tartine, a spinach artichoke tartine and a canele. The pastry itself was crisp, buttery perfection! Beautifully laminated and the fillings were sublime. I appreciate the slight bitterness in chocolate filling for the pain au chocolat. I see that they have French hot chocolat on the menu and I look forward to trying it next along with something off their lunch menu.

Phoenix just welcomed its newest European brasserie. This is a true European-style brasserie--where freshly baked pastries meet thoughtfully crafted lunch and dinner offerings, all made in house. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by the sounds of clinking glasses, soft music in the background, and the hum of laughter filling the room. Every dish and pastry brings its own aroma, texture, and depth of flavor, paired perfectly with expertly made coffee and drinks. The quality is undeniable, the atmosphere is inviting, and the experience feels effortlessly elevated. Whether you're stopping in for coffee and a croissant or settling in for a full meal, this is one of those places you'll want to return to again and again. A must experience in Phoenix Bakery - 7am until sold out Lunch 11am - 6pm Dinner - Coming Soon

We came for restaurant week and for a date night and glad we did. When we walked in I immediately knew I was going to enjoy my night. When you first walk in you see all the pastries and kitchen. I had reserved the wine nook (which I highly recommend) for a date night. We were seated right away but it did take a bit for our server to come to our table. The prefix meal included a French 75 which is one of my favorites drinks. To begin I ordered oeufs mayo. I had no idea what it was but our server said it was like deviled eggs. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the dish. The sauce was salty but celery stuff at the bottom balanced the saltiness. My fiance ordered the oysters which he enjoyed. We both ordered steak frites as our main entree. We both felt the steak and fries were a bit bland. For my dessert I ordered the crème brûlée and cappuccino which both were delicious. I would definitely recommend this place for a date night.

Cool, new spot with a somewhat funky location. We stopped in at breakfast. Pastries and coffee were on the menu for us. Service was friendly. Ambiance is very modern and has a nice French flair to it. Savory, plain, and sweet croissants. Ours were delicious. Coffee was top notch as well. All around great experience. N*joy!

    Pastries on point!

Went to Brasserie Melrose for Restaurant Week and it did not disappoint. Everything was incredibly delicious! The escargot with bread was superb! Loved dipping the bread in the escargot butter. The duck breast for the main entree was phenomenal! So tender and succulent! Cooked to perfection! And for dessert, the chocolate fondue was such a treat! Finally since they also have a bakery, we took some croissants and cookies to go! Even the next day, they stayed crunchy and fresh! Service was also on point. Wait staff was friendly and food came out well paced. Definitely coming back!

Amazing cafe! I love the chic and cozy atmosphere. Based on their butter croissants, the technique, quality ingredients and flavor is spot on! Will look forward to trying more items!

Mussels. Shrimp cocktail. Frites. Baguettes. Escargo.

Live in the hood and decided to try on a whim. All food items we had were great. Escargot didn't have much flavor but I wouldn't know how to fairly rate it since I don't commonly eat it. Cocktails, oysters, mussels, shrimp, frites, and baguette with butters were all amazing. Atmosphere was chic and beautiful. Can't wait to try the breakfast items and coffee. I would recommend having louder music as it seemed a bit quiet. And for the one tiny table upstairs we had, recommend creating more space somehow or not seating for a full dinner as there was not enough space for our food and drinks. All other tables seemed sufficient tho.

French transplant here, born and raised in France! I'm a tough critic on all American places that call themselves French or European because there are so many with poor execution... and I've gotta say, I'm so happy that Brasserie Melrose opened close to me. I love seeing all the authentic French dishes on the menu, made with actual French products. They have a large collection of wine and cocktails, and it warmed my heart seeing Kronenbourg 1664 beer on tap. The warm goat cheese salad is made with authentic Crottin de Champcol from the Loire Valley, and it's heavenly. The French onion soup takes them 20 hours to prepare, for a reason. Croissants made with Isigny Sainte-Mère butter, pains au chocolat with Valrhona chocolate... on those days when my soul craves the warmth of my home country's food, it's comforting to know there is a little taste of it nearby, no passport needed, no jet lag involved! They have live jazz on occasion, which is nice. Excellent service, too. The parking at the back is a bit limited, but there is street parking nearby if needed. This may not matter to everyone, but because I like supporting places representing groups that are having their voices increasingly silenced these days - it's LGBTQ+ owned! Bon appétit!

I've been wanting to stop by since they opened. Of course... parking is very limited unless you park in the community light rail, parking area right behind the restaurant, which I would recommend. We came in and looked at all the pastries behind the counter and ordered Apple Dulce Pecan tart $7.50, Chocolate Croissant $7.50. Canele $3.95, Bacon/Cheese tart $8.50. There wasn't anyone else at the counter except for us. You would think we would've been greeted or acknowledged since there were 2 employees behind the counter, but we weren't. We asked the cashier a couple questions about the pastries and decided to just take it to go. The 4 stars is for the quality of the pastries we had. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back. We love to support mom & pop places but like to feel that they actually want us there.

The second one tasted "clean" or like it was supposed to taste. The Burger & Fish Tacos were full of flavor & freshness! I loved their fries b/c crispy on outside & soft on the outside. Missing their Guac & Chips Starter that was on former menu tho. We gotta commend the F&B Manager here! He overheard us talking to the waiter about the differences in the Charred Beet Salads & told us why: one was on the grill too long & he only knew that b/c he was in the kitchen watching them make it. He appreciated us sharing about the nuanced difference in how salads tasted & comped one. Wow - this is really going above & beyond: caring enough to have a convo w/ diners, acknowledging their palates detecting the difference AND making it right, b/c as he said "both should taste the same, like the second one." A commitment to excellence and consistency is a rarity. Overall, Lylo Swim Club outdoor bar/restaurant is a little oasis tucked away amongst so much greenery and beauty! Yes they have the pool nearby, but we didn't take a dip. Something to look forward to! P.S. Can the tile pattern on the bar be any more gorgeous?!

You would think being outside they would have someone buss since there were bugs swarming everywhere. The Dole Whip drinks you would assume the alcohol would be mixed in but just poured on top. Service was honestly extremely disappointing usually I can give them some grace but this was just... wow! Then I go to pay and there were several items on my bill that were never ordered. Mind you never got silverware or napkins so we were using the towels. 25 minutes for a can of beer mind you. Place could have potential but would need several more servers and maybe individuals that are equipped to even do the job in the first place. $300 for actually a slap in the face and no sunburn because are seats were in the shade with dirty dishes damn near on top of us. Gross, waste of money, and just disturbing. Could not pay me to come back. In addition the pool looked so alarmed I was surprised individuals were even in it, I barely let my feet in. Update : I tried to contact the hotel yesterday to get in touch with the manager, was given 3 emails all wrong. The emails never got delivered. Call the Lylo Swim Club this morning and spoke with Paul Epstein.... oh my actual god good luck. So extremely rude not helpful at all no wonder on his LinkedIn he switches jobs every few months. Some things he told me on the phone.... 1. That the dishwasher/busser was going around every 20 minutes and grabbing dishes... Wrong I saw him once 2. Explained to him that the drinks tasted like they were poisoned. He said what do you expect when you order alcohol. 3. he asked why I didn't grab a server. There were two and I saw them maybe three times only when they were delivering wrong food. He then told me that they were overstaffed yesterday pathetic. On top of that he said everyone was going there to get the dole whip drinks because of TikTok. I'm glad other people could enjoy them, but you would think since he works in the restaurant industry he would have grace for others when its impossible to please everyone. That I understand but with all of these things that went wrong a discount should have been applied. I've never experienced someone so rude and uptight. I can't even imagine someone having a bachelorette party or a birthday there I would be embarrassed to have my friends or anyone I know being in contact with this place or Paul. good luck to him.

The soothing decor and soft lighting created a cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a delightful meal, especially on an unseasonably hot day. We began our culinary journey with the Larb Mushroom appetizer, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The dish featured succulent oyster mushrooms tossed with roasted rice powder, fresh mint, shallots, cilantro, and a vibrant chili-lime dressing. Each bite was a refreshing explosion of flavors, combining the earthy richness of the mushrooms with the zesty brightness of the dressing. It was light, refreshing, and a perfect precursor to the meal ahead. For her main dish, my wife chose the Pad Z U, an outstanding selection that showcased sautéed broad noodles, crispy fried tofu, and Chinese broccoli, all enveloped in a delectable sweet soy sauce. The noodles were soft and chewy, creating a delightful texture that harmonized beautifully with the vegetable medley and tofu. The heat in the dish was skillfully balanced, providing just enough kick without overwhelming the palate. My wife couldn't stop raving about it! I opted for the Kua Kling, and it truly was a star of the evening. This spicy stir-fried minced chicken was enriched with fragrant curry paste, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves, resulting in an aromatic dish that was accompanied by tender long string beans and the unique Sadtor beans. The flavor profile was complex and enticing, with each ingredient complementing the others in a delightful dance of spice and freshness. It was a dish that not only warmed my belly but also left me craving more. What elevated our experience even further was the attentiveness of our server. With a genuine smile and a welcoming demeanor, they offered excellent recommendations and ensured that we were well taken care of throughout our meal. Their knowledge of the menu added to our enjoyment, making the dining experience even more memorable. Overall, LeDu Thai is a culinary treasure that I cannot recommend highly enough. Each dish was exceptional, bursting with flavor and crafted with care. The combination of delicious food, attentive service, and a cozy ambiance makes it a must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable Thai dining experience. Huge wine list, even though I didn't order any. We ordered the olives with Mahon cheese (serves as a fabulous appetizer. We also enjoyed the Sonoran wheat pretzel (wow, it was delicious!!!!) then the elote pasta and the pork ribs. Pasta was a good portion and the meat on those ribs had delicious flavor and fell off the bone. You could ask for an additional one if you want. We then had dessert, I think they rotate them so if you want to try this unique and delicious and light corn cheesecake make sure they have it. It wasn't heave and the red corn masa crust flavors reminded me of flavors my mom used to bake. The ambience was soothing and cool. Octagon shaped bricks held wine bottles. Various types of seats for eating ...high counter seats that overlook the street and the Melrose sign, leather seats to sit comfortably with friends, the bar or various other seating options. Room for semi large groups or two seaters. Soft lighting throughout. Service was fantastic and while somewhat pricey, it was 100% worth every penny! Definitely a place to try and treat yourself to a fabulous meal. It's casual but if you dressed up you'd fit in well too.

That was the experience our group had at Valentine. It's one of those places that's trendy and hip, and unless you're there to post to your instagram story, you'll leave wanting more. Our waiter explained that they recommend eating family style here, with the plate sizes getting bigger as you go down the menu. Maybe family style for like a nest of newly hatched birds. Half chicken, $42. No actual sides with that, just half a small chicken. 3 ribs? $24. That's $8 a pork rib. None of the food was out of this world flavors either to demand a premium price point. Not to be completely negative, the cocktails were all very enjoyable. We left here and went to In-N-Out as a group after since we were all still pretty hungry. And our tab at In-N-Out for the four of us was less than one half chicken at Valentine.

I first came across Don Woods' Say When reading a Yelp article listing out the best rooftops in…read moreeach state. Don Woods was Arizona's pick. For quite a few months, I had it on my list to visit. I finally made things happen on a Wednesday evening for a drink. Located on the roof (of course) of a boutique hotel, I find free parking in the hotel's parking lot. While it was a busy parking lot, I was able to find a spot. Unfortunately, my night consisted of a comedy of errors. Ambiance (3/5): When you think best rooftop in the state, you're thinking scenic and peaceful views. Don Woods' certainly has that, though I've seen better in Phoenix. You can see the mountains in the background, but that's about it. The hotel is located on a busy street, where you'll often hear the noise of cars buzzing by or the train choo-chooing. Did I just make up a word?! I imagine the best time to stop by is during sunset. The outdoor area is relatively narrow with seating for about 20-30 people. It's a mix of comfortable seats and tables/chairs. There's also a charming indoor area, where the bar is located, but I felt like I had to sit outside. The weather was perfect, too. Service (2.5/5): This is where the comedy of errors began. I was given a menu and some water and was left to peruse the menu. Before the waitress had returned, I had picked out an appetizer and a cocktail. I then discovered that their cook had quit the other week and as a result, no food was available. That's fine and all, but you've gotta give me a heads-up when giving me the menu. That way, I wouldn't have spent the time to look over the food menu and get my heart set on a particular dish. On a better note, they have free WiFi. And service was overall friendly and pretty efficient. Food (N/A): While I was unable to order some food, on most nights, they have a small menu of small plates. More of a snack type of spot then a full meal type of establishment. Drinks (3/5): Don Woods is know for its cocktails and they have a list of 10 or so craft cocktails. Plus, beer, wine, and the typical options that you would find when there's a full bar. I feel like the bartender messed up the proportions on my cocktail as it was a bit rough. One drink and I was out. It seems like Don Woods' is experiencing some turnover which is leading to some mishaps. Combine that with some high expectations given the accolades they won, and it was the recipe for a disaster. I love a good rooftop bar, so I was hoping for more at Don Woods' Say When. Even the lobby of the hotel was experiencing issues. They sell popsicles in the lobby but the guy temporarily manning the front desk didn't know how to get their Square device working. Which ended up meaning no appetizers for me at Don Woods and no popsicles from the lobby. Two strikes. We live to fight another day.
