Brasserie Melrose had already won me over for breakfast and coffee, but after finally sampling the dinner menu, I'd say it's an all-around winner. The chèvre chaud salad was the standout: warm goat cheese melted over baguette slices, served over greens, and honestly better than expected. The duck confit was solid, and the chocolate fondue with strawberries and pieces of croissant was a fun, very satisfying finish. The place has a quieter, not-too-busy feel, with friendly staff and young owners who clearly care and are aiming high. They lean into the French brasserie concept trying hard, but in a charming way, not an annoying one. Ambitious, pleasant and genuinely enjoyable -- happy to have this spot in the mix. read more

Came for a birthday brunch and first off, we LOVED our server, Parker. She was absolutely amazing, we loved chatting with her. The vibes are super cute, and the food was great. We had wine, the lobster croissant sandwich, the omelets, the croquet madam, the charcuterie, the shrimp and olive and peppers. The croissant sandwich was REALLY good. The omelets was yummy but smaller than I expected. I didn't love the croquet but the salad it came with was good and the aioli for the fries was also super good. We had a lovely Mother's Day brunch at Brasserie Melrose. I love French food and had heard great things about this spot, so I was excited to finally try it. One thing to know before you go is the parking lot is very small with only a few spots. When we arrived it looked completely full and it took us a minute to realize there are plenty of covered parking spots right next door at the park and ride. You walk in through the bakery and it smells incredible. While we waited for our reservation, they offered complimentary bubbles, which was such a nice touch. The restaurant itself is upstairs and has a small cozy atmosphere with a bar area. There is also an upstairs patio that would have been lovely if it had not been so hot outside. They had half off bottles of rosé, so we started with that while my daughter ordered a vanilla latte. Honestly, the menu was packed with things that sounded amazing. We decided to start with the Moules Frites. The mussels came in a white wine herb butter sauce with fries and the portion size was generous. We absolutely loved them and of course dipped the fries into that buttery sauce. So good. I ordered the Eggs Benedict which came on a buttery croissant with soft poached eggs and basil hollandaise. That hollandaise was so unique and flavorful. I asked for no ham and added Royal Ossetra caviar instead, which made it feel extra decadent. It also came with a side of greens. My daughter ordered the Croissant Sandwich with soft scrambled eggs, Gruyere cheese, ham, and tomato jam that she loved. It also came with greens and was a very large portion. We ended up taking half of it home. Before leaving we grabbed a couple pastries to go for dessert, a chocolate croissant and a sweet danish, berry custard. They were almost too beautiful to eat, like little pieces of artwork. We enjoyed them later that afternoon at home and both were delicious. First timers and won't be the last. The perfect slice of Parisian life in a cute all day cafe. You can seriously stay there all day as menus range from pastry to brunch to happy hour to dinner. We had a lovely time at the bar for HH. One of the most delightful martinis I have had (quinoa vodka!!??). Service was lovely, we leisurely snacked on a few items - the bread and butter was exceptional (that good French butter!). Prices outside of happy hour are really reasonable but the HH itself was a great deal with 30% off all wine bottles and cocktails and a long list of curated snacks. Wish we lived closer. This place is not like the elevated French fine dining places in Phoenix, which are quiet and fancy. This restaurant literally makes you feel like you are in a neighborhood restaurant in France - the space is loud (in a good way), small but intimate. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were all super friendly. The food was good as well! The dishes were simple but well executed. I specifically loved their French onion soup - it was cheesy on top, but the soup was broth-based, thin and flavorful. Wow! I'm always on the lookout for the best croissant. Once we heard there was a new brasserie not too far away, couldn't resist checking it out and Brasserie Melrose did not disappoint in the least! Super cute spot on the corner of 7th Ave. Great ambience, get your pastries and order your coffee downstairs and then head upstairs where we sat outside in the sun on the patio. It really couldn't have been a better vibe. I can imagine having lunch of dinner up here would be perfection. Chocolate croissant, butter croissant, cappuccino, and a Parisian latte. All of it was exceptional. My other favorite pastries in the Valley are Essence and Chaccone, and this is right there. Truly. The latte was one of the best I've had in a long time and I will be back for another soon. The service was friendly, prompt to order, and someone checked in on us while we sat outside. The initial impression of Brasserie Melrose had me excited. The pastry and croissants downstairs looked promising. The chocolate croissant was alright, I've had much better ones near the area. The smoked salmon and ham & gruyere was decent. Unfortunately the good ended there. All wait staff in the dining area seemed like they were new and didn't know their roles. Just to place our order, it took way too long for our waitress to understand and use the handheld device. On to the food. The French onion soup was ok at best. Seasoning was non existent, having to add salt just to make it bearable. Escargot was not bad, a little bit on the saltier side, opposite of the soup. Jambon Beurre, just think of a homemade sandwich with ham and cheese, it reminded me of school cafeteria food. Fantastic pastries! We walked in on a Saturday morning and the place smelled heavenly. I love the black and white decor. The person that took our order was efficient and we ended up getting a pain au chocolat, a cheese and bacon tartine, a spinach artichoke tartine and a canele. The pastry itself was crisp, buttery perfection! Beautifully laminated and the fillings were sublime. I appreciate the slight bitterness in chocolate filling for the pain au chocolat. We came for restaurant week and for a date night and glad we did. When we walked in I immediately knew I was going to enjoy my night. When you first walk in you see all the pastries and kitchen. I had reserved the wine nook (which I highly recommend) for a date night. We were seated right away but it did take a bit for our server to come to our table. The prefix meal included a French 75 which is one of my favorites drinks. To begin I ordered oeufs mayo. I had no idea what it was but our server said it was like deviled eggs. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the dish. The sauce was salty but celery stuff at the bottom balanced the saltiness. My fiance ordered the oysters which he enjoyed. We both ordered steak frites as our main entree. We both felt the steak and fries were a bit bland. For my dessert I ordered the crème brûlée and cappuccino which both were delicious. Went to Brasserie Melrose for Restaurant Week and it did not disappoint. Everything was incredibly delicious! The escargot with bread was superb! Loved dipping the bread in the escargot butter. I'm a tough critic on all American places that call themselves French or European because there are so many with poor execution... and I've gotta say, I'm so happy that Brasserie Melrose opened close to me. I love seeing all the authentic French dishes on the menu, made with actual French products. They have a large collection of wine and cocktails, and it warmed my heart seeing Kronenbourg 1664 beer on tap. The warm goat cheese salad is made with authentic Crottin de Champcol from the Loire Valley, and it's heavenly. The French onion soup takes them 20 hours to prepare, for a reason. Croissants made with Isigny Sainte-Mère butter, pains au chocolat with Valrhona chocolate... on those days when my soul craves the warmth of my home country's food, it's comforting to know there is a little taste of it nearby, no passport needed, no jet lag involved! They have live jazz on occasion, which is nice. Excellent service, too. The parking at the back is a bit limited, but there is street parking nearby if needed. Excited to have this place in the neighborhood! Went for lunch and sat at the bare. Service by Kristi & Eric was fantastic. The place is beautifully decorated , making you feel happy & a bit posh. Prices are not cheap, but everything we had was quality. I had one of the best martini's ever...it had a basil infusion & Kristi was happy to sub out the vodka for gin. My hub enjoyed boulevardier. We split mussels & French onion soup . The buttery garlic broth was delicious (mussels ) and the soup was just what we were hoping for! We ordered an extra baquette with butter to soak up the broth. I've been wanting to stop by since they opened. Of course... parking is very limited unless you park in the community light rail, parking area right behind the restaurant, which I would recommend. We came in and looked at all the pastries behind the counter and ordered Apple Dulce Pecan tart $7.50, Chocolate Croissant $7.50. Canele $3.95, Bacon/Cheese tart $8.50. There wasn't anyone else at the counter except for us. You would think we would've been greeted or acknowledged since there were 2 employees behind the counter, but we weren't. We asked the cashier a couple questions about the pastries and decided to just take it to go. The 4 stars is for the quality of the pastries we had. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back. As soon as you walk up to B. Melrose you have departed Phoenix and -- Voilà! -- landed in Paris. Ambiance was amazing and the service is the only non-French thing about the place. Kristian/Christian was welcoming, calming and brilliant at providing suggestions and just a real cool dude. Declined wine by the glass and instead the bottle which you cannot find at my local total wine (no bottling fee so just take home if you don't finish, cheaper than purchasing 2 glasses). We had dinner Thursday night excited because it's restaurant week! We were so excited to try this new place. We had a 630 pm reservation. Unfortunately we didn't get seated until 710pm. Our waiter looked frazzled and very busy. We ordered off the special menu and found out they were out of some items. We had oysters on half shell which were delicious. The deviled eggs weren't available but olives and peppers were offered. I should have skipped my appetizer. Duck breast with fondant potatoes next. Only complaint was no seasoning. No salt. Steak frites without salt. Frites were dark brown, just shy of overcooked but not burnt. The steak was mostly fat and gristle. No salt to be found on the steak. There was salt on the table but it doesn't make up for no seasoning on the food. The chocolate fondue was sold out for us but available at the table next to us who arrived 30 min after we were seated (go figure). Overall we were disappointed. The wine pairing was excellent and that's why I gave you the 2nd star. Our waiter did the best he could in what looked like a rough service. I don't know if we will come back. We did get another recommendation from the 2 chefs at the table sitting next to us So, it wasn't a total loss. read more

I had a delicious latte, and sampled the pain a chocolat, and this incredible cheesy Parmesan potato thing before taking it home to share. (I should remember what things are called before leaving reviews lol). The coffee and pastries were both very high quality and delicious. Perfect texture and balance of flavors. The staff were very sweet, it's really neat to go on the second day after they open and overhear them establish their friendships and working relationship and work through drinks and processes. The interior is absolutely gorgeously decorated. I'm in love with the black couch and zebra chair. I really felt like an underdressed American in France in my Claude the alligator t-shirt. I can't wait until they open up their dinner service so I can go back. Maybe I'll have a designated driver and will get to try the cocktails, they all look interesting. I didn't get pictures of the downstairs area because there were people there and I didn't want to make it weird but it's beautiful, there's even upstairs and downstairs patio seating. read more

Arrived for lunch on Sunday and was greeted by just an amazing opening of the kitchen fresh made pastries the smell of coffee and warm friendly faces. We were told it was about a 45 minute wait and decided that was fine as no one was starving. Talking with any employee asking their favorites and watching waiters walk by with delicious looking food we were definitely excited to sit and partake. The bar is open seating and a few couples left getting us the ability to sit much faster than originally anticipated, and ordered some coffee and water. We then got the charcuterie board to share and then ordered after getting to know the bartenders a little better. Here's what I will say as a possible reason for everyone else's high marks for reviews is that we didn't order any pastries, however when it came to the food when we ordered French Onion soup, the Steak and fries and the Mussels nothing was exceptional or mind blowing and it was all good. Being the old BELLY restaurant location which is extremely unique. I think the beauty of the space definitely helps which is great I wish them well and I'm sure my wife will be back for some coffee and pastries but as far as what we felt we got for lunch today it was okay. read more

This is a cute little hidden-gem French brasserie. The café au lait was full of aroma, you can tell they use good beans. I like coffee that's bright, balanced and without too much acidity, this one hit the spot perfectly. They also have a fantastic selection of other coffees, and I'll definitely be back for the café au lait again. The croissants and pastries are absolutely divine, buttery and fluffy. It's not easy to find a good patisserie in Phoenix and their croissant is by far the best one I had. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. My friends and I went on a Sunday to celebrate and we made reservations in advance for their weekend brunch (also recommended from staff to do the same for dinners). Parking specifically for the restaurant is abysmal but the park-and-ride just a walk down is accessible and free. We didn't have to wait for our table which was great and the upstairs patio was gorgeous. It was rather windy that day but not too hot, and the views were splendid. Our group ordered some pastries (which go REALLY fast so order quickly as one in our group missed out but we shared what was left of the butter croissant), but the chocolate croissant and butter croissant were amazing. I can't emphasize how tasty they were and very fresh/crispy! I had a Café Viennois which even with the warmer February weather was delicious! My friend ordered an iced latte with some syrup flavor and said it was very good! The environment of the place was nice, not too loud! I never felt uncomfortable or crowded in the space. Sophie/a (apologies if spelled incorrectly) was our server and really great about water refills and checking in with us! She was really nice and helpful with the menu items, and even apologized about the wait time for food (we didn't mind at all, the pastries filled us up well as appetizers!) For entrees I ordered the steak and frites, and my friends ordered the quiche and french toast (from their amazing brunch menu!) It all looked amazing and tasted really delicious; the fries were passed around the table and greatly adored. My steak was tasty although I personally didn't like the sauce that came on the side, but others at the table did! I think the only downside is some items of the menu aren't changeable/flexible for alteration (my friend is allergic to strawberries and couldn't get the french toast without the fruit/custard), but it was very nicely explained to us by Sophie and we were totally fine with picking other options from the menu. They are certainly a newer restaurant and quite a small kitchen so this makes sense to us! Overall for us Gen-Z on a mindful budget, it didn't cost how many might think French cuisine would, and it still tasted excellent. We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to celebrating again in two weeks, as we had some friends drop out last minute of this experience. read more

Omg I saw someone's Instagram late at night last night and thought of checking the place out this weekend. Well I couldn't wait I happened to be not far and went to grab a few things to try for a treat for me and the family. Well 10 items later, everything was so beautifully made couldn't decide. Lol. I was a pastry chef for 30+ years and I'm now retired so the Instagram really enticed me but as soon as I walked in the smell of butter and the artistry of the pastries were irresistible and had to try almost everything!! Lol I've only eaten the Quiche Lorraine and a butter croissant but let me tell you it's the best I've ever had!! I absolutely love Quiche and I do have to admit it's even better than mine!! The croissant was so beautiful and light and buttery. I could have eaten them all. I can't wait to go back this weekend and bring my grandchildren. I try to teach them what really good quality food taste like! I live in Peoria but will drive 25 minutes gladly for this place what a treat. Can't wait to try their lunch menu. The establishment was incredibly welcoming and the owner at the register was very kind and excited to have his business open to the public. I've been waiting for this place to open and I'm so excited the time has finally come! I got a Meyer lemon tart that was incredibly flavorful with the perfect texture. The Lobster croissant, the Nicoise Salad, the Lyonnaise Salad, the warm olives and peppers!! Absolutely all amazing. My family was raving about how good it is.
