To be fair though, we had gotten lucky with our situation, so YMMV. We were on the last tour of the day, and there was only us two and one other person. It was basically like a private tour. The small group allowed our tour guide to be personable and converse candidly with us. He gave us a lot of good insight into the history of Ghent and his own insights as a local. I learned a lot of interesting facts and stories about the city and several of its buildings. At the time of this posting, the price was 7 Euros per person and cards were accepted.

He was considerate to different levels of bicycle riding and kept a good eye on the group to make sure nobody was lost. Additionally, Nikolas showed us some interesting parts of the city and tailored our trip to see and tell stories of things that interested or related to the group (interests and personal backgrounds). Overall, I would highly recommend this tour. Unfortunately, with all our questions and conversation, we weren't able to see some other areas of the city. I had to get back to the tour meeting point within an hour so I didn't have much time to wait. I asked if it would be a wait and was told that it shouldn't be long (10 minutes max) but it ended up being 1/2 hour. Seems the Boat tours get busier as the afternoon progresses. It was a nice/Hot day and some type of shade in the waiting area would have been nice. 12 Euros and they do accept cards. This was my second time taking the tour and it was ok. It was difficult to hear the Captain/Guide given he was speaking fast as he was trying to provide the information in a couple of languages. In addition, the PA system wasn't clear. Overall, a good way to see Brugge from the canal perspective. More to enjoy the sights vs sights and information.

Envision a 1350 ton ship being lifted approximately 75 meters (225 feet) straight up into the air.... tremendous achievement. Pluses, there are a couple of other activities available besides the history of the lift. Well worth coming to see. If you're lucky you will be able to watch a barge being lifted. Also the view from the 8th level cafe windows is amazing. We spent 3 hrs here, and could have done more if we did the boat or train tour as well.
