Our first dinner of the trip was at Brazen. They're located inside the Mount Royal Hotel. We dropped in on a Saturday evening with 7:00pm reservations. Our server was excellent and accommodating with all of our tables dietary restrictions. The menu is a one pager; appetizers, snacks, small plates, vegetables, large plates and desserts. Our group of 7 shared everything family style. There's a daily happy hour (5:00pm to 6:00pm) and Wednesday date night ($69.00 for a three-course dinner). - Smokin' warden ($16.00) - Brussels ($14.00) - brussel sprouts were excellent. Tasty sticky Saskatoon orange glaze. - 2x Smoked sticky ribs ($18.00) - okay but a tiny portion. 5 pieces of ribs. - 2x Chicken pops ($16.00) - essentially chicken meatballs. Not the best texture, slightly dry. Best part was the roasted red and hot peppers underneath. - Smoked beef tartare ($21.00) - tartare was good. Touch of smokiness and came with a side of sweet potato style chips. - Pork belly ($15.00) - good. Not too fatty. - Green tea mussels ($30.00) - came with two pieces of gluten free bread. The broth was interesting; detected the slightest hint of matcha. - Salt cod ($16.00) - cod cakes were delicious and the gaufrettes added a nice light crunch. - Truffle parmesan potatoes ($10.00) - standard fare. - Braised cabbage ($27.00) - the pickled onions were excellent. Cabbage had a touch of acidity. - 2x Lamb chops ($25.00) - decent but nothing memorable. - 2x 14oz New York ($50.00) - the chocolate jus did not pair well with the striploin. The regular jus was much better. Steak was cooked to our requested medium rare. - Crème brûlée ($13.00) - 2x Cheesecake ($13.00) - a deconstructed carrot cake. Bizarre, unbalanced and heavy. Brazen seems more for fancy cocktails and a couple selective dishes over a full blown meal. read more

Booked this place through open table reservation. Basically saw the French onion Mac and cheese, and had to come try it. The top layer was crunch and delicious, but under that was not good. Not much flavor and hardly any cheese. I was a little disappointed! But the side of truffle potatoes was amazing!! The check came in a cute little "the damage" envelope. Such an adorable touch!! FANTASTIC FOOD!!!!!! My family and I were in Banff around 10 am and we were just shopping then we got hungry so I went on yelp to see places to have steak. We found Brazen and just walked in. Ordered 4 plates and the best were the steak and potatoes and the croque madam and they were FANTASTIC. The steak was delicious and the potatoes were well made. 12/10 would recommend!!! read more

Whether you're coming off the mountains or spending the day in town, Brazen is a great option for dinner. Its location is convenient, with plenty of parking. We enjoyed every bit of our meal. Overall a pleasant dining experience. Beautiful decor, wonderful attentive server, an interesting menu, tasty food. The canadian sourced wine selection was interesting - the Cabernet was so-so. We accidentally over-ordered (we weren't sure with the small plates how many would feed two). We tried the tartare as an appetizer, and then shared the pork belly, truffle potatoes, Brussels sprouts (very tasty) and mushroom gnocchi (the highlight). We could have easily shared 3-4 dishes total and been satisfied. It was a little pricy in my opinion - but to be expected in a tourist destination. I have no distinct complaints, but I wouldn't necessarily say this is a *must* on your visit. A great dining option in an area flush with great food. read more

Saw the amazing reviews so decided to come here to have a nice, romantic dinner with my husband, however we sadly had the complete opposite. The drinks and food were not good whatsoever. For our appetizers we tried the deviled eggs, which had little taste to them and one of the small plates - the sticky short ribs. The ribs came out cold like the rest of our food did. For our main dishes, we got two of the large plates - Matcha green tea muscles and the ginger beef. Both of these dishes came out cold as well, we honestly should have sent them back. **The only reason why I am giving two stars is because my husband said he liked the taste of the muscles. Other than that I should be giving one star. **At the beginning, we told our waitress I was pregnant because I got a mock-tail - coconut lime one that had a ton of lime in it. What frustrated us especially me so much, was when she brought out the ginger beef she then told us she had to pour fired Brandi on top of it as the topping and she hoped that was okay with us since I was pregnant. Why wasn't this brought up before ordering the dish? Another mistake and I wish we had turned the dish back!! It was awful. The beef was not crispy and cold, and the peppers that came with it were bland. I could've made better and crispier frozen Trader Joe's beef at home. Our bill was over $100 and absolutely not worth it. Really should have talked to a manager at the end because this was an awful experience. We had a really nice brunch at Brazen. I had the salmon brie toast and my fiancé had the chicken club- both were good but the true highlight of our meals was the potatoes! Some of the best and most interesting breakfast potatoes I've ever had. I also had a latte and a mimosa which were very good. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. My one suggestion for the restaurant would be to add more to the menu such as different coffee options that are available and potentially side orders as well. When my fiancé ordered his sandwich, the waitress offered 3 different side options, one of which I think was a soup. If I had seen soup on the menu I would've ordered a side of soup. I would also highly recommend ordering a side of brunch potatoes if your meal doesn't come with them. read more

In my over 15 years in the hospitality industry, I have never met a more unwelcoming staff member than the manager of this restaurant. As guests of the hotel, we tried to sit upstairs to hold a brief Zoom call and since the restaurant manager parked his laptop in the only corner with an electrical outlet we attempted to move a small table to use the only remaining outlet. In the middle of our call the manager came over, scolded us for moving the table, and proceeded to walk back over to his table where he finished his steak, beer, and vape as we packed up. I would HIGHLY recommend looking elsewhere (anywhere) in Banff to eat. As you walk in, you'll see the restaurant is nearly empty and you'll soon see why. To the owners, as someone that manages costs for hospitality outlets, I'd recommend you do a deep dive in your employee meals expense and Cost-of-Goods-Sold with your staff eating steaks and drinking beer while on the clock. Made a reservation here a few months in advance, for a belated Valentine's Day dinner to occur during our ski trip. Problem was, we got seated in the back in this sort of auxiliary seating area, which felt exactly like that. No windows, bright lighting, sparse decor, staff bustling about everywhere. Really killed the mood. Food was pretty good, though a little gimmicky. Service was the best we had in Banff. Just wish we'd gotten to experience some decent ambience. We made a reservation the day of for 8:30pm, but the host looked surprised for a moment when we checked in - we were seated by the window with a great view of the Main Street. We ordered the fried artichokes, pork belly, ginger beef, mushrooms, and tuna, which was a bit too much for 2 people. The ginger beef came with sizzling brandy that they light at the table - it was cool to watch but admittedly the beef was well done. The fried artichokes come with a bit of hummus on the side, which was great. The pork belly was very sweet and not too fatty. The mushrooms and tuna were skippable in my opinion. By far the best dinner we enjoyed in Banff. This place is superb and I can't believe it hasn't already exploded in popularity. As soon as folks find out about this spot, it's going to be booked weeks out. This classy-yet-casual tapas bar has some incredible flavor choices and an enviable cocktail list, all of which is delivered with a certain amount of elegance and theater that I love to see tableside: Smoked beef tartare delivered beneath a cloche, so that pine smoke mists about the table as it's unveiled? Check. Cocktails served from a gorgeous teapot, poured fresh over cotton candy into a delicate coupe glass? Check. Crème Brûlée delivered in a crystal ash tray, with white chocolate "cigarettes" and cocoa "ash" for panache? But don't be mistaken - this place isn't all smoke and mirrors. To be blunt, I was obsessed with our meal here. We're from the states, but spent a week in Banff, and it took most all of my willpower not to pop into this place and order the truffle potatoes over and over and over again. This place works best as a place where you should taste (and share) several dishes -- we were very pleasantly surprised by most everything as we were nestled in a booth on a not-so-busy weekday. I believe the menu changes semi-frequently, but we had meatballs, which were tender (and large), and delicious, a great lil' salad, pork belly, 1-2 veggie dishes, and some of the best potatoes I had in my life. They were seasoned with just enough truffle oil, and they had those seared, crispy bits which were absolutely divine. I wanted to run into the kitchen to ask how they do it so I can try it at home. Honestly not sure why this place is rated so high. We had brunch here and the salad + duck was entirely underwhelming. Portions weren't filling and weren't particularly tasty. I guess they were fresher than what you might find in other restaurants on the street but not enough to fill close to full. Service was slow and things were brought out in weird order, with food coming out first and beverages following after. A personal pet peeve is having to ask for water multiple times and this was the case with this place. I wouldn't say avoid, as the atmosphere was relaxing and the AC worked well, so it was nice to cool off on a warm day. But this place is closer to 3.5-4 stars in my opinion. read more

What an absolute delight for Banff to have this lovely spot enter the dining scene. The restaurant is chic and cozy all at the same time. Our server was outstanding and gave us time to mull over the menu. It was a couple minutes before 6 and he graciously shared the happy hour drinks so we could grab one, which was appreciated. Their house wine at happy hour is $6. The red Pursuit was a very nice red blend. Food was spectacular and well plated. Each dish had one thing that really stood out and made it special. My favourite was the Mushroom Gnocchi. The sauce reminded me of my Baba's homemade mushroom soup and I literally closed my eyes at the first bite. My husband and I came in for brunch and had a nice meal. He got a grilled cheese benedict. I got a Korean fried chicken sandwich. Both came with a side of breakfast potatoes. So I got the regular potatoes and he got the upgraded ones and it is better to do the upgrade for sure. The regular ones were okay. The fried chicken sandwich was good but nothing terribly special.
