They (FoodyDirect) did credit my account from the mix up of my last order. Breads Bakery sent me a note along with free cookies. (cookies were good, considering they were all crumbs and packed in a bag. Maybe they should have packed them in a plastic container?) The note said - "We are super sorry that we missed your last order. Your love for our bakery is super important. To make it up to you, we are shipping over some of our favorite cookies on the house." About a week after the cookie shipment, we received another box by our door! (The original order that we supposed to get in the first place?) It was rugelach, and babka. Suggestion - mark the babka bags either "chocolate" or "cinnamon". Pack the cookies in plastic. Ship the food in a more stable box. Don't use a California based shipment company. One more thing - everything freezes well. read more

I finally wasn't dieting and could try this place out. I got the pan au raisin, (which is worth 10 stars by itself) and the creme brulee danish. The danish is the reason I took a star off. It was good but the best part of the creme brulee is the sugar top, and this didnt have that or much sweetness at all. It was still good, and the dough was great, but just not what I expected. Just found one of my favorite bakeries in the city!!! So glad my husband and I did a quick yelp search for coffee/snack when we were in the neighborhood, and stumbled upon Breads Bakery. This place was a delight just walking in - the aromas, the bustling service, the friendly service, the variety! I was hooked! We couldn't decide on what to order, but the friendly lady in front of me suggested we try the potato bureka, so we did! Paired with a perfect latte, it was mouth-wateringly delicious! In fact, we were so impressed, we decided we better judge this bakery by its make of a plain croissant. So, after quickly devouring out first treat, we bought our second and we were equally impressed! Their method of heating up their pastry items really works because you end up with a warm, flaky pastry instead of something soggy/oily (i.e, never microwave your croissant!). This review is way over due! You must visit Breads Bakery! Their chocolate babka is the best. I had never tried babka before, so I don't know how it normally tastes, but as a sweets addict and bread lover, this has come to be known as Nutella bread among my circle of friends. It seriously is so good! But aside from their babka, all of their breads are pretty spectacular. I have tried their tiny tarts, and their dulce de leche donut (which was really good!) as well as their other breads. The staff is very friendly and nice, always greeting you with smiles and open to small talk. The service is nice, and I love that they always seem to have bread cut for all to try. read more

I finally found a place near my work where I know I can receive consistently good pastries and coffee. I no longer have to settle for Starbucks, Telegraph Cafe, Pret, or any of the other mediocre cafes around Union Sq. I've tried their mocha and lattes and they are amazing! Great flavor without being too overpowering. Their plain and almond croissant are always on spot. I've also tried their breakfast croissant sandwiches which I recommend. Yes it's pricey, but treating yourself sometimes isn't a bad thing. I've yet to try their chocolate babka which they're known for. Can't wait! read more

The bakery is at the front, with a coffee shop in the back. We got an assortment of baked goods from the front, and all were delicious. The staff were really friendly, too. I love it here! They're always so nice and friendly and I've never encountered a long line or anything, which might just be luck - but makes it great for my lunch break cookie run. This is one of my favorite bakeries in the city but I have to say that lately I've noticed that their Chocolate Brioche is not as good as I remembered. Although the chocolate is the popular among the crowd, the Cinnamon Sugar Brioche is worth a try as well. Also, i'm usually not a fan of marzipan but I do love their Raspberry/ Apricot marzipan tart. There is seating in the bakery but it's usually very crowded so be prepared to wait for a seat. During the holidays this place gets really busy so I would suggest that you do your shopping in advance. read more

Some of the best croissants, rugelach, and of course babka in New York! With that said, I initially gave this place 5 stars but this year's Thanksgiving was ruined. Made an order in person last week for two Babkas and a Babka pie. Already paid and was ensured to pick up my order at 8, but they were already closed by 7. I had to attend Thanksgiving with my family empty handed and very much disappointed. I was able to call customer service and was told this also happened to about 5 other customers. The gentleman I spoke to was very helpful and told me they're looking into how this happened. They also offered a refund along with babka pie that was made to order. I have been relying on Yelp for years to help me navigate the thousands of options available to us here in NYC, but this is my first ever review on Yelp. All I can say is the babka made me do it. Breads was recommended to me by a friend who had developed an addiction to this unassuming little bread shop just off Union Square. He did warn me that once I had a taste I would be hooked too. I was skeptical because I'm pretty picky about my pastries but I was not prepared to have my tastebuds blown away... Since stopping in last week I have been back twice, bringing my 7 year old son and my husband for taste tests. Both gave Breads a double thumbs up. My husband had a doughy crispy foccacia topped with tomatoes, mushrooms and melted cheese and my son had a chocolate chip cookie that was a perfect combination of chewy, crispy, buttery and salty chocolate goodness. The feta salad and lemon dressing were clean and fresh and delicious. Their lattes and espressos also amazing. But their babka, oh their babka makes me swoon.... It is all at once flaky, sticky, chocolatey buttery and not too sweet. I don't even like babka and now its all I can think about! This place is expensive. Bordering on the overpriced. But the product is good. Some of my favorites that are also reasonably priced: -The Parmesan crackers: Try eating just two. I buy a box (It's not that big to begin with) and it's eaten (with a friend or just by myself) before the day is done -The chocolate chip cookies: Right combo of sweet and bitter crunchy and chewy -The Brownies are pretty good too -The Cheese straws are also fantastic, more of a cheese savory pastry really The breads I find kind of expensive for what they are so I have never bought any...especially when I can go to the farmer's market a block east and get great local bread for much better prices. read more

I never walk on 16th street, but I"m always passing by Union Square. The other day, for some reason I happened to take 16th street instead of 14th on my walk and passed by this bakery. I stopped in and was very pleasantly surprised. Many of the items, whether sweet like chocolate rugallah or savory like quiche, looked very good. I got the olive and cheese stick and a feta bureka and bother were very good. Crust and the bread (I'm sorry I don't know the proper baking terms) were very good and the flavor was excellent in both. I really like coming here a lot! The pastries are delicious and the price is average. I wish I knew the WiFi password though! At one point I do believe they had it written somewhere, and I asked a cashier, but when I tried the password multiple times, it wouldn't work. The most recent time I came, there was a woman carrying samples. She did not ask anyone if they wanted to try, she simply just walked around with a tray of samples. Before that, there was a man who did the same thing, he just walked around. Neither of them offered it to anyone. I'm 85% sure they were samples, but no one knew for sure, so no one asked for one. I was a little disappointed. The other times I had come when there were samples, I was offered to try one, and it was scrumptious! I ordered online a specific kind of birthday cake which would be the focus of my daughter's birthday celebration. The order was confirmed, paid for, and I was given a pick-up time. When I arrived, on time, after a 45 minute subway ride, I was told that there were no more cakes of that type available. They had not attempted to contact me to let me know. They were sorry. They offered to provide the cake the next day, or to provide another type of cake -- not what my daughter wanted. I asked for a refund. They could not produce a receipt to prove that my payment had been refunded, although as I stood there, two customers paid and were offered receipts. I think the food from this bakery is probably wonderful. I would just caution customers not to plan a special occasion around one of their products, because they may not be able to come through. read more

I hate writing bad reviews, but hopefully someone from management or Uri would see this and can do something about it. I drove from very far to get a Tunisian sandwich. I know, that's a weird line and but I did. Anyway they ran out of it, so I asked if they could make me one. Suddenly, all 3 people behind the counter acted like I asked them to make me something they've never heard of before. They were shocked! All they wanted was to get to the next customer. They said they can't. I asked to speak with a manager but she was in a meeting. I felt like they treated me like fresh meat and all they wanted was to give a simple order to the next customer. Needless to say I think the service in the place is terrible, unfriendly and unprofessional. On my way out I bought a baguette and a small marzipan cookie. They were very tasty, but they cost $7.25 together. The cookie was $3.75. That's terrible. In Israel, if you charge someone a cookie for 15 shekels he would stab you, or worse, never come back to your business and tell his friends about it. And a Tunisian sandwich? That's market food that should be made on the spot, whether or not the manager is there to tell his workers to make it. Unfortunately, as an Israeli who's proud of Israeli businesses succeeding, I will never return here. I gave this 2 stars because the things I had tasted great. Everything else was not. Uri, if you read this, do something about it. It's not all about the money. As someone who loves you work and owns your book, I am very disappointed! read more
