Hardwood Flooring was purchased, and the install was absolutely horrible. Larry Shields,…read moresales/manager, came out to my home to look over the poor install. Larry agreed that the installer did a terrible job, and told me he would order a new floor, have the current floor ripped out, and install the new floor. After 2 months of deceptive stalling and dragging his feet he is now going back on his word. I've read this exact same scenario in other reviews of Stateline Carpet and Flooring (promise that "We'll make it right" and then stall, stall, stall, sorry we aren't replacing the floor). Larry scheduled a "independent" inspector to come out and inspect the floor install, so they could pursue damages from the contractor that did the install (at least that's what he told me the inspector was for). Now it's very clear that he sent this inspector out to try and cover themselves, so they could get out of replacing my floor that he promised me they would replace. Seems like a rotten form of deception to lay on a customer. I literally have an HVAC vent covered up by their installers. The floor squeaks all over (the installers kept having to tape up the leaking hose to their nail gun so I'm thinking it may not have drove the nails in far enough). I could not even open my French door to my patio when installers were done because the shoe moulding went up too high and literally sealed my door shut. I'm still waiting on 6 recess vents to be installed (been on back order an awfully long time - tough to have faith in what Stateline is telling me at this point). I have multiple pieces of shoe moulding that are so loose you could literally lift them right up from the floor. The two installers installed 560 square feet of hardwood into 3 rooms in 5 1/2 hours. I had my own contractor come out to look at the job and he was shocked at how poor the install was and said it needs to be ripped up and replaced. When I told him it only took them 5 1/2 hours to install the floor and 90 more minutes the next day for transitions and shoe moulding he was SHOCKED. He said it should have taken at least 12 hours for two people to install the floor install and even up to 16 hours to complete everything. Not 7 hours total. I talked with Larry again today, and during a heated exchange he arrogantly told me "We are playing by my rules now" he went on to tell me how "impatient" I am. (it's been 2 months since the faulty install happened). Only took 2 weeks to get the original install done from the day I paid them to place the order - getting things replaced has now taken 4X longer with no end in sight but I'm "impatient" AND Larry tells me after the inspector looked things over "it's different than we both thought" (what's DIFFERENT?! You promised me a new floor and now you are backpedaling).

Was told no problem, could put in a driveway for us this year. A week later and still hadn't received our estimate. Called them and apparently they didn't have my email address, which i gave to them twice already. So finally got our estimate after two weeks. Now it's almost October, and after receiving a few more estimates from other companies, decide to go with these guys because they're local, not because they're any cheaper. They weren't. Though their rates were very competitive. Called their office and was told someone would get back with me. Never heard from them. Called again a week later. Now it's early October. The girl says she can't guarantee work would be done this year. I informed her that i was told otherwise and unfortunately if that was the case, i would have to go with another company. After a brief hold, she comes back on the phone, tells me they'll be doing work in my area later this week and that they'll be out then but they'll call me before they come. I was pleasantly surprised that they would get it done so quickly. And very happy. Only they didn't show up and didn't call. So again, i call them. The lady who answers the phones said she would have someone call me. A week later and no call. Now it's mid-October. I call again, same thing. Someone will be calling me. By this time, i felt like they weren't interested in doing the job. So i called and hired another company, who guaranteed me they would get me done this year. Not even an hour later, someone was in my yard locating my utilities. When i asked who sent them, they say Herbig. The company who never called me back. So I'm on the phone again. This time, the receptionist gets someone else on the phone with me who explained to me that I've been on the schedule for weeks. That when i called them the first time and gave them the go ahead, they put me on the schedule. Now they were locating utilities because they were about to get started on the job. This was never explained to me by the receptionist. Though my gut was telling me to just hire the other company, i decided to stick with these guys because they were local. And thought well maybe it was just poor communication. The guy told me that the locates were good for two weeks so they had two weeks to finish the job. Well today is two weeks. And i get a call from the company saying they're going to start prepping my driveway on Friday. Although they could not guarantee it would be finished this year. But no worries, i could still drive on the stone. So apparently when i plow my driveway this winter, i can just start moving all the stone around into my yard. And that's not supposed to be a big deal. They wasn't even concerned about that. What a joke!! I understand that weather is a big factor in determining their schedule. But this company screwed me around from the very beginning. They should've been up front about it. Now I'm stuck with no driveway for the winter and will have to end up hiring the company that i wish i would've hired in the first place.

Our ducts were moderately dusty to start, and the Bowen team cleaned them thoroughly. They helped me remove some old cable cords that the previous homeowner had run through the ducts as well. As they were leaving, we noticed our television had a dent in it. I asked them to come take a look, and they quickly took responsibility and thought maybe a vacuum hose or something hit the TV. Right on the spot, they offered to replace the TV fully, no questions asked. They had me call Molly in the office, had her get the info on the TV, went to finish another job, picked up the TV at a WalMart, and delivered it back to us. I can't say enough about the kindness of this act! We were just moving into our new home, and our daughter needed some entertainment while we unpacked. A++ professional service and a big dose of going the extra mile to make their mistake right. Would recommend their service to anyone.

It took some time and patience, but after quite a bit of back and forth, we reached a satisfactory resolution, and our floors now look great. Stay calm and kind. Most of the people you speak with are not decision-makers; they relay your issues to those who are. If you treat them kindly, they will "fight" for you and prioritize you as a customer. If you're not satisfied, ask to speak with managers and have all your information and proper documentation ready. Again, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to remain calm and kind. You can achieve a reasonable resolution. Don't give up and they will make things right.

The salesman did not notice that there was tile below the current floor or even think it might be an asbestos floor. I know he saw the floor because I watched him. When the installer showed up, he said he could not install because of the asbestos. I had it remediated and the installer came back. He put in the new floor but refused to move the furniture into the rooms or re-install the closet doors. He said they did not tell him he had to do this so he did not have a crew with him to do it. His supervisor promised another appointment in a few days to move everything back. I began calling Empire a day or so later to confirm the appointment and was told there was not one. Each call I made to them told me something different. Finally they told me that they would not move furniture into a room that they did not take it out of or re-install doors that they did not take down. My contract was clear that they move furniture in and out. There was one larger dresser that we could not get into the room and had to hire some moving guys to do that and of course, to pay for that. Empire has offered me a credit of $140 which is just a token to me. The salesman, the installer, the people on the phone, the supervisor, they all had a different story for the issues we were having. Hence, I would not recommend this company. And if you use them, not only get it in writing but record your phone calls (totally illegal) but I wish that I had.
