Finally got a chance to try Breaking Buns over the weekend and it did NOT disappoint! I'd seen it for a while because I live in SE Portland and drive down this road frequently. The first thing I loved is that they're actually open late! So many food trucks in the Southeast close around 8pm and Breaking Buns is open until 11pm! My boyfriend and I came by around 9pm on Friday night. There were some people eating at the tables and some waiting for their order, but it wasn't crazy busy. We decided to get a bunch of stuff to share because everything sounded amazing. We ordered... This truck puts out some amazing Bao. For $10 I got the Chicken Philly Cheesesteak, Miso Pork Belly and the Braised Beef. They were all great and filling. Included is their Asian style coleslaw. Very good and a little spicy. My friend got the Tofu Bao and liked it a lot. If you're sensitive to heat you might want to hold back on the Japanese Mayo. It has a kick. read more

I'm a picky eater and rarely love food that someone else prepares but this dish is delicious. Perfectly seasoned and just the right amount of veggies vs noodles and the beef was out of this world. I've been looking for a good gua bao place close to home and Breaking Buns didn't disappoint! It seemed like a really rough night for the chef. He was working alone as his coworker had taken off early, right after he had injured himself in an kitchen accident and lost some ingredient prep in the process. He had to shut down to take care of himself but made sure he made my phone-in order before closing, even after I told him to not worry about it. He made my food more or less one-handed. Then because it had taken twice the time that was estimated he comped my whole meal and refused to take my money! Told me just to come back when they were more on top of things. Gotta admire that work ethic and commitment to customer service. The food was great and they accommodated my wife's mushroom allergy. I especially enjoyed the shrimp bao. I got an order of the fried rice with shredded chicken thighs added, and an order of braised beef tonkatsu. the braised beef was delicious and flavorful and i enjoyed the contrast of having the napa cabbage slaw as a side, it was very light, crisp and fresh. container was packed to the brim with my fried rice and i enjoyed the flavors there as well. everything was proportioned well except the peas, and that was my one and only complaint. Peas have a blunt flavor profile and there were soooooooo many in my fried rice that it took away from the rest of the flavors. Next time i order i'll skip the peas entirely because it was all well made and packaged extremely well. you should definitely try this place out, they clearly give a shit about what they put out read more

They offer a "3 for $11" deal. We ordered 6 baos, 2 of each flavor. Got charged $27, after asking why so much she said it must be 3 of the same flavor to get the deal. She also offers a "2 for $9" deal. But if you buy just one, it is $4. So if you buy one by itself, and then another by itself, you spend $8. These customers will never return. Breaking buns?
