My wife and I rented this place out many years ago a few times a year. We used to come here for the big Volkswagen show every year in the park. We were grateful a host took the time to make us goodies and brought them over. It was a surprise and a treat. It is not creepy like some of you are pointing out on the Airbnb's reviews. That's what people did in the olden days, but of course most of you don't understand that. Which is sad; now. This place is over the top nice. Has always been. We've not been back in years due events in life and we travel with our dogs and this place does not accept dogs, so we've been staying at other Airbnb's that do accept dogs. With that being said you can see clearly in "ALL" the reviews that the host does this for her guests, so it's no shock to any of you who rent it. Why continue with the hatred and leave bad reviews if you know this is what the host likes to do?? If you read the reviews you can write to your host and opt out of that part of the good gesture. Then you won't be in shock when a muffin is left for you. Other places around the area do the same thing. Sad that you all don't understand that and think it's creepy. Sad. From all the reviewer photos you all are young and don't get it.

Housed on the property next to the owners, it is a…read moretranquil place in a quiet street just a few blocks from the main tourist shops and restaurants. There is a designated parking space on the property for renters. After walking through a gate and down a short brick pathway, you enter a beautiful brick paved garden area that is framed by crepe myrtles and other plantings. I can imagine how beautiful the property is in full bloom (such as in Spring), as it is still very inviting and attractive in mid-July. To the right is the owner's home, and to the left is the rental. There is a small seating and swing in front of the double doors to the cottage. Upon entering, you look up and you're greeted by a large chandelier and the king bed in front of you and large wooden doors acting as a headboard. I'd love to have known what the doors were once used for! To the right of the doorway is a small kitchen area with a sink and a refrigerator and microwave (which are hidden in cabinets), along with a coffee maker. The fridge is filled with refreshments (waters, milks and juices). The counter has an even nicer surprise . . . a cherry/cream cheese coffee cake!! So good! They also provide some single serving cereals and popcorn. For entertainment there is a tv with cable and a DVD player. The property doesn't have daily housekeeping, but if you're staying for more than two days, they come every other day to be sure you have everything you need for a pleasant stay. With the quiet location and oh so comfortable mattress, I got a wonderful nights rest. This is a truly peaceful location that offers tranquil surroundings and a well appointed cottage.

After I discovered their site, the hubby and I decided to conference in a call. The phone was immediately answered by a very friendly lady named Carren. We told her our likes and dislikes and in under 5 minutes she suggested about a 1/2 dozen properties they book for (they have listings for over 200). After we reviewed the suggested properties, we certainly had a preference for which one we would like to stay at (the Fawkwerk Cottage at Haussegen Log Haus). Booked and done! And, I must add this was a last minute trip. We called about 2 days prior to our desired arrival date and Carren was more than eager to accommodate us. We loved the Cottage and our "hosts" (please see separate review) so much that we decided to stay an extra night. One call to Carren. Booked and done again! GREAT customer service from Carren and all of the other staff we interacted with! They were all so helpful, friendly, and a hoot to boot!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR ALL OF YOUR TRAVEL NEEDS WHEN VISITING FREDERICKSBURG, TX!!! Have to add the following to the overall review: On the FCLRS website, they offer "Romance Packages" that you can add on to any lodging stay. We discovered this while we were on the initial phone call with Carren during booking. So, the "fun" between my husband and I and FCLRS began very early into our first experience of Fredericksburg. A necessary explanation: There are 3 different package prices ranging from $39.95-$59.95 that offer a variety of items to enhance your stay; chocolates or roses perhaps...or Easy Cheese (Midnight Package) and 1-time use camera (in the Snuggle Package). hahaha! I certainly don't, but when I was doing research in preparation…read morefor a weekend trip to Fredericksburg, I found this website to be the most current and helpful when it came to finding a B & B in my price range. It seems like a lot of the B & B's in Fredericksburg require you to book through a reservation service, and that made me suspicious. The reservation company also charges a fee for providing their service on top of your room charge. No wonder I was suspicious: a pirate can smell money gettin' took from 264 miles away. However - this reservation service has some of the best customer service I've encountered in many, many moons. Aside from a good website, every time I called the employees were polite, friendly, and helpful. We arrived at the office after hours (about 3 hours past closing time) in order to pick up our room keys from a box in the front of their building. We happen to strike up a conversation with another B & Ber who was also picking up his keys about what might still be open in town. Even though the lights were off and the "closed" sign was hanging in the window, the manager and another employee happened to still be in the office and they opened up their door and waved us in. They proceeded to show us on the map where there were bars that were still open. They also gave us a list of wineries and were quick to point out there is a brewery in town. Anyone who opens up their business to point me to a bar has found themselves an eye-patch wearing, cutlass brandishing, new number 1 fan.

We just came back from our second time staying at Camp Comfort. We love it. We stayed in the cabins both times and it was clean and had everything we needed for a short stay. The grounds are well-kept and the management communicates very well. Comfort has quickly become my favorite little getaway. Living in San Antonio it offers a quick respite from the hustle and bustle of city life and is only 45 minutes away from our home. The town is peaceful and has some good food, a few shops, and some wineries that are within a short drive. LOVE Camp Comfort and can't wait to return.

Not the most impressive rest stop that Texas has built (ahem, Navarro county? Walker county?), but…read moreit's still a step up from the basic picnic areas in the middle of nowhere. It provides an adequate amount of shade near the main building and several walkways to roam through the grass. The men's restroom could use a touch up but looked acceptable. Not sure what the deal was with the gated vending machines; they're mostly empty and hard to reach through the gates. While this stop does the job for a quick bathroom break, its usefulness is completely overshadowed by the town of Kerrville just a couple miles west on I-10. I saw plenty of fast food restaurants and gas stations right off the Kerrville exit which looked much more comfortable. When heading westbound, the exit for this rest stop states that the next *official* stop isn't until another 120 miles, but you can find plenty of small towns along the way. I will say, this stop does have well kept lawns. I saw several kids happily running around. Not my choice of activity in this sweltering heat, especially since there's a lack of natural shade, but I can see the appeal in stopping here in a time crunch.
