Never had a bad meal in-house or by delivery. Their meatloaf is excellent. Moist, rich, and delicious. It's small and is easily one meal as long as you also love your three sides. I generally add one or two extra sides and like to turn this into three meals, though, I'd I order delivery. I also wish they gave you a touch more gravy. But I love the meatloaf enough that I keep ordering even without an ample gravy allotment. Cheesy grits are stellar. Mashed potatoes are standard and yummy. Mac n cheese is good. OMG - i've been dying to go here for years and finally made it. My mom is from the south so my standards are HIGH for southern food and this did not disappoint. We came for brunch and I had decision paralysis, but I went with the shrimp hushpuppies, cheesy grits and a biscuit on the side. My boyfriend got the french toast. I loved everything - the grits were amazing and the biscuit was buttery and delicious. I wouldn't recommend the plain french toast. I can't wait to come back for dinner and try the meat + 3!! Also had been craving mac and cheese and it did not disappoint. The beignet was yummy but i feel like it wasn't exactly what i was expecting for a beignet but also ive only had a beignet once. The peach cobbler was eh I liked the ice cream but it was way too cinnamon-y for me. Made a last minute decision to grab dinner at Brenda's Meat & Three because I happened to be close by on an errand and haven't been back in a while. I parked a couple blocks away (but probably could've found parking closer) and walked over and grabbed a seat at the counter. It was busy but still had a few seats and tables available at around 6pm on a Friday. Brenda's has a nice homey welcoming vibe inside, and the workers are always super friendly. I got a meat and three with Brenda's fried chicken, mac and cheese, green beans, and beets. The plate comes out nice and hot which keeps everything warm as you eat, and the portions are generous. You get to pick which cuts of meat you want for the chicken and I opted for a thigh and 2 drumsticks. The chicken is hot and crispy - the batter isnt too thick or heavy, and the chicken is tender and not dry at all. It goes really well with the sweet chili! The sides were all good, and the cold slightly sweet slightly tangy beets were a nice refreshing break from the richness of the chicken and the super cheesy thick Mac and cheese. The green beans were tender and had good umami flavor and had little bits of tomatoes too. It was a super satisfying meal and came with generous portions - I had leftovers. We went to Brenda's Meat & Three for brunch without a reservation, so we had about a 30 minute wait to get seated for a party of 5. I had the fried catfish with collard greens, Mac-n-cheese and a biscuit. My friend had the blackened catfish, with red beans & rice, collard greens and French fries. Another friend had the pulled pork hash with eggs and a biscuit. For drinks we had watermelon tea and one friend had a guava mimosa and another had a peach mimosa. Everything we ate was delicious. I've been coming to Brenda's for years, to both locations but this one is so easy to get to for me and the food and service is always outstanding. Can get loud but we've always come at times where it's not too busy. I always make a reservation just in case because it can get packed in there. I'm one to never stray away from something I know is good so I stick to my usual... the fried chicken! My sides stay the same as well- red beans and rice, fried okra and the collard greens. The smoky and savory collard greens is a sure winner, the fried okra Is my absolute favorite side dish though. The chicken is always crunchy and seasoned well. Consistency is always on point. We've recently veered from the norm and got adventurous trying the stuffed pork chop and that now may be my favorite entree there. The bacon and spinach and the cheese that's all melty from being stuffed inside soaking up that delicious pork juice... amazing. This location has a bar in the center with plenty of seating all around it. There is also an outside patio in the back. We had some friends visiting in town for the weekend, and from our last experience here, we decided to take them to Brenda's for lunch. The place on the weekend was packed. Luckily a table was just getting up and they were able to clean it up and get us seated right away. There wasn't any real standout flavors and ended up just adding salt and hot sauce. I'd stick with more of their lunch and dinner items next time around. My girlfriend got the gumbo and a side of fried chicken and Mac n cheese. The fried chicken and Mac were as good as remembered, I mean probably some of the best Mac n cheese, I could eat that everyday. My girlfriend and I both agreed that the gumbo had way too much okra and was the dominate flavor. We've ordered this before to go so maybe it was just an off day. During this day, they had the ceiling fans running and I think it may have affected the temperature of the food because all our food was room temp pretty quickly after it being brought to our table. Service here has always been good but this latest visit left a bit to be desired. I eat quickly so they cleared my plate away, no problem. But the others were clearly still eating and the server was trying to pick up plates and even dropped the check off when not everyone at the table was done eating. We felt rushed, which is never a good feeling when dining out. Either way, while this experience wasn't the best compared to past ones, I'll be back to Brenda's because it's a spot my family loves. The biscuit was hard, crunchy which tells me it's day old or more. I make biscuits at home all the time and they should not be hard. Hubby says the gravy was good. I tried the gumbo again. Spicy with plenty of rice, sausage, okra and 2 shrimps. It was good. The Flight of 4 beignets were disappointing. The dough was hard on the exterior and inside cake or bread-like. Not soft and fluffy like the beignets we've tried in NOLA. The filling of the apple was OK with tiny cubed apple pieces, the chocolate one was with Ghirardelli chocolate, the plain was like a thicker, heavier donut. Brenda's Meat & Three is an authentic New Orleans experience. Maybe not the decor or look of the place, but the food and even the background music does the trick. I haven't been to New Orleans in many years, but my friends who I was with are both regular visitors to the Big Easy. I have been to the original Brenda's Soul Food a few times, so I was familiar with a lot of the flavors here. The thing that sets them a part is their "meat & 3 sides" deal. They have a nice variety of meats and sides you can order, and the costs range between $24 and $28. I ordered the BBQ spare ribs, mashed potatoes, garlic spinach, and red beans and rice. Everything was really solid here. The ribs were perfectly tender and The BBQ sauce was a little spicy, smoky and not very sweet. I also got to try the fried chicken, which is really crispy with perfectly moist meat. I tried the meatloaf, which is also a standout. For dessert we tried their apple beignets, which were great! Lastly, my friends who ordered a Hurricane and I was happy to try it. This drink was very boozy, but in a good way, and had a wonderful balance of sweet and tart. The server here was very friendly, but not super knowledgable about the food here. He had to ask the kitchen a couple of questions, so was probably new here. Florentine Benedict (5/5): I am a convert to Benedict's on biscuits now. Biscuits are the perfect texture for it, softer and more breakable than a traditional English muffin but firm enough for a bite. And the creole hollandaise was a super creamy but light and soo well seasoned. 4. Special of the day shrimp pot pie (5/5) - my friend tried this and upon the first bite she let out a loud "mmmmmm" so I take it that it was good. The portion was very generous and came with a side. 5. Walnut mollasses coffee - very good as well. They tend to be busy so a reservation is recommended especially on weekend.
