Happy Herbs. Now, I know what you're thinking. And I really don't know. I didn't ask. But I DO know…read morethat they have a range of OTHER herbs for sale (all of which are presumably legal). And yes, you can smoke them. And yes, they make you feel things. So, I can't see the different between legal smoking herbs and illegal smoking herbs. But then, maybe I oughtn't use my eyes for the differentiation. Not all the herbs for sale are for smoking, though. Some are for rubbing on the skin, other are for direct ingestion, and other are for smelling. There are health and performance boosters and aphrodisiacs too. But what caught my eye, because I lucked out with an awesome star sign, was the zodiac sticks of incense. As I was ready the astrological description on the front of the packet and discovering how awesome I am, a throng of teenagers entered the store. The young, beautiful lady behind the counter handled them with - as Hemingway would put it - grace under pressure. The teenagers were asking her about certain herbs, which she assured them they were too young to buy. Then they began asking if there was anything that could make their 'dicks bigger'. Now, maybe they engineer teenagers differently these days, but a few years ago I wasn't going around heartily declaring my anatomy needed any sort of modification. I assured everyone I met that it was of a very generous proportion. And my friends did the same. Whether it was true or not. Regardless, she didn't buckle under the pressure and that, I think, is to be commended.

As I entered the shop I was delighted to find a hippy manning the store, complete with dreads and guitar in hand. He was certainly very happy and chilled ( I am guessing he isn't averse to smoking a few of the less legal variety of "happy herbs".) The shop has a vast array of medicinal herbs in packets displayed on the walls. Most of the herbs I was told are grown locally if possible. The packets of herbs give good information on what the herb is good for treating or preventing. I came out with a treasure trove of leaves to boil up for different ailments. It is enlightening to see the herbs that are usually hidden in tablets in their natural (although dried) state. So if you want to find a tea to brew for sugar cravings or to help your immune system etc wander in and have a look around.

If you're missing British or US treats from home or holidays, this place should sort you out. Friendly and cheerful service makes the experience more fun. And surely being in a Lolly shop should be about fun. This one is crammed to the rafters and makes me feel sent back to a childhood of innocence and treats and is as exciting as a Harry Potter set. It's quite easy for the bill to add up fast in here, but certainly worth the treat!

Mind you I didn't leave empty handed (even though all of the lollies landed up with one of my friends). I have to admit that the selection is absolutely huge, and you actually won't find many of these lollies sitting on the shelves in your local supermarket. I actually spent about 10 minutes wandering around here, and found quite a few sour offerings (which I do like), that I ended up buying. This outlet is smaller than the one on Rundle Mall so if you're looking for huge variety and extravagant gift baskets then perhaps go there. This is the top shelf stuff, it's the kind of quality only money can buy (and probably a fair bit more coin than you usually fork out for choccies). From the cabinet full of delicious truffles, to the boxed hand-made soft and hard centres, it's all good. For the puritans out there the plain milk block is equally as divine as its more complex counter-parts. And the Speckles remind me of my childhood, albeit a more glamorous one than the real one involving Freckles. If you're trying to cut down on the chocolate (though why would you with a store like this around?) I find it very satisfying to buy the little Teddy Bears or Frogs as one goes further than a hunk of the cheaper stuff. My one big whinge (oh I hate when we fight) was they ran out of most stock the day before Easter - yes RAN out! A testament to their popularity but come on you've been in business for 95 years and all you do is make chocolate which Easter just may have a little something to do with. The meat is displayed well and their is a good selection of standard meats. I have bought a wide variety of meat here and it has all been of a good standard but there is nothing that really stands out. A good all round butcher.

The staff are super lovely, and very knowledgeable. They make their own 'meals' in house (eg. chicken kiev, schnitzels etc), my husband loves their drunken chicken and yiros-marinated lamb leg. I love that I can walk in and say "I'm thinking about making x tonight" and he will tell me the best cut of meat to use and he'll prep it for me there and then.
