One has to go over to the green area to smoke where there is a croquet pitch and some chairs laid out for us (good job it was an Indian Summer). Although this motel is next to a busy main road, I found it very relaxing sunning myself on this green area as well as peaceful. Rooms are tidy and clean and have a lounge area with television, kitchenette with self catering utensils, fridge and microwave separate bathroom and bedroom. Laundry facilities very useful for road travelers such as ourselves. The owners friends were very talkative and we chatted about our visit as well as listened to bagpipes one evening. Over the road one can purchase cigarettes, tea/coffee and basic groceries at the petrol garage (or however it's said in American).

Some of the rooms have been renovated, and they are really nicely done. I would recommend them. They are our first choice when making a reservation. The motel is run by Myles Clark and his father Doug who are very nice and very good innkeepers. It is located on Water Street, the main street of Summerside, about 30 minutes from the Confederation Bridge. When we get there, we hop on our bikes and go for a ride along the waterfront in Summerside. In the fall they served muffins, toast, juice, milk and coffee for breakfast. It is worth noting this motel is number one on Trip Advisor for all of PEI. The friendly and professional owners ensure that you are well taken care of throughout your stay. We found it on purpleroofs.com and we were very lucky to have discovered it. We were visiting my partner's nephew who was working on an organic farm on PEI for the summer and our stay at Maple Hill was an added and unexpected pleasure. We had never been to PEI before and did not know what to expect. Mike and Paul are the proprietors and they could not have done more to make our visit more perfect. Their guest house is nestled on the side of a wonderfully landscaped hill with expansive and private views of the green and plush countryside. We stayed in a beautifully converted barn that was spacious, decorated and incredibly comfortable. Their flower garden is absolutely stunning (Paul is a landscape architect) and the "Pidgeonnair" (a little room house located on a private end of the farm) was great for yoga, meditation or just relaxing in a private area. They actually farm and have several cows so the experience was absolutely complete. Breakfast was superb and we had a traditional lobster dinner (the other choice was a harvest farm dinner), that could not be beat. We also enjoyed their company and they even invited us to a concert in a nearby town (in an old church), which just made the trip all the more complete. Stunning, spectacular, fun, quiet, peaceful, beautiful and everything in between. I highly, highly recommend Maple Hill Guest House not only when visiting PEI but also as a destination. Located in the centre of town, it's a good centre point for anyone planning on staying around the centre of the island. Summerside is 10 mins away, Cavendish is about 25 mins away, and Charlottetown is 56 mins away. The host, Herb, is by far the most welcoming host I've met at any B&B I have stayed at. Royalty Maples was chosen by me because they had the lowest price of all I looked at, and I am on a modest income. I wasn't expecting it to be such an amazing place! Firstly, it is very difficult to know when you will arrive due to so many stops for doggie bathroom breaks and such. But Faye impressed me right away by being so kind, understanding and very accommodating. She went far above what other places would do, and it put me right at ease and made my worries so much less. That alone is priceless! Once there I was welcomed warmly by Faye, and made to feel right at home. The whole place is quaint and charming, and even the motel section (as opposed to the cottages) I was in was lovely with its little bistro style table and chairs out on the little deck to greet me. The room was spotless, and surprised me by even having a dish cloth and towel along with dish detergent right on the counter by the sink! The microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, stove, fridge and dishes as well as cutlery and such, was a welcome sight indeed! A kitchen table to seat 4, a big bed, tv and pull out couch....I could go on and on! The air conditioner was a relief so I could keep my 2 little dogs cool as it was very warm outside during my stay. And they loved it there, so much lush, thick grass to roam on with plenty of shaded areas-they thought they were in a park. And for dog lovers (as well as parents) this place is also perfect because it is set far back from the main road, which so many are not, and that also made it so much quieter. I got so much for my money, and I will be telling everyone about this little gem. I wouldn't stay anywhere else and maybe next time I can stay longer, and get to enjoy a real vacation on your beautiful island. Highly recommended! Thank you for everything Faye! :)

What an amazing place to stay!…read more I'm so so happy we booked a three day package here because we had such a lovely time! This bed and breakfast is owned by Judy and her family and they are the sweetest people ever. We arrived quite early on Tuesday morning because our flight from Montreal left at 7 AM. Thankfully the room was ready for us before noon which was a pleasant surprise! Judy took the time to explain everything to us in the sitting room and she gave us a bunch of info pamphlets on restaurants and activities on the island. Our room was on the top floor so we had to carry all our stuff up two flights of stairs which was good exercise. The room had two beds, one queen and one single. The single was in the room with the desk, couch, chair, and TV. The bathroom was small but definitely functional and we were provided with dove shampoos and body wash. Our room was cleaned daily and towels were changed out. There was an AC unit in our room but we only had to use it once one afternoon when it was quite hot and muggy. We preferred to open the windows and get a nice cross breeze through the room. Parking is super easy right outside on the lawn. Breakfast is communal downstairs from 8-9 and you have your choice of eggs & bacon, French toast, oatmeal, or cereal. They definitely know how to cook eggs here so shout out to the chef in the kitchen! My mom ordered poached eggs and they were done perfectly, and I definitely enjoyed my over hard eggs. The jams were super yummy as well; not sure if they are made in PEI but they were perfect on the buttered toast. Prior to receiving your main meal you get to start off with fresh fruit, tea or coffee, and orange juice. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Judy, her two daughters, and her husband. They are so sweet and hospitable and willing to take the time to talk to you and see how your day went. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone coming to PEI who wants to stay in an old style Victorian house with a lovely family :)

She is chock-full of Island history and has all of the insider tips any visitor could desire. She made sure we got the full Anne of Green Gables experience (my wish) and the best seafood meals (my husband's) while we were there. We had such a lovely, relaxing visit as a result of her advice and help. I think staying at the Barachois enhanced our feeling of returning to Anne's childhood home, too. Returning to quaint North Rustico each evening and retiring to our cozy b&b helped immerse us in that feeling of coming home, as Anne often referenced in the book. Thank you, Judy and Andrea, for keeping our spacious room tidy and clean, and for the delicious breakfasts and equally tantalizing stories about the island.

We were visiting Historic Stanley Bridge for the traditional "Ceilidh" {traditional Scots/Irish music}. Owners Drew and Frances made sure we were secure with tickets and great seats. All units at Linden Homestead have been newly renovated and are fresh and sparklingly clean. These 2 nights at Linden Homestead were the beginning of our trip to PEI and Nova Scotia; Frances and Drew were exceedingly helpful and friendly with tips about our further travels. We would highly recommend this property and would certainly stay here again.
