I stopped here for lunch today. I worn around the corner. It was my first time here and I thought the interior was nice. All the hand painted artwork gives you plenty to look at while waiting. I stopped into this place because it was close to the hotel and it had good yelp previews. It was absolutely slammed and I placed my order and received my pizza within 15 minutes. They have their takeout service down to a science. This is one of those pizza places where it would be best to go with a large group of people order several different styles of pizzas and kind of do a tasting? I'm always looking for great pizza in unexpected places in CT. Earlier this year, I noticed Mama Mia on a monthly Yelp List identifying the Most Popular Restaurants in Connecticut. That's how I first learned about @brickandbasil in Yantic. I visited several months ago, but forgot to post my review. There was a bit of a hiccup when I visited. I drove about 40 minutes to get there, and when I arrived, I learned that they were closed for their first ever private Baby Shower party. I was crushed. But this story has a rated PG Happy Ending. I called the restaurant and spoke to Amy. I explained that I had driven a ways and asked if they could make me a pizza to go. They didn't take long to tell me that they would make me the first pizza of the day before the shower got into Full Swing. I was grateful for their hospitality, and terrific wood-fired pizza. I was inside briefly. They have plenty of seating and a bar that with decor suggesting a love of music. I ordered the Mama Mia and ate a couple slices outside. It had sliced meatball, roasted red pepper, mozzarella and ricotta on a good chewy Wood Fired Crust. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The red sauce had bright flavor. The ricotta was creamy and fluffy. Brick and Basil is well respected in pizza circles, and I can see why. It started as a food truck. But a food truck that starts with the word Brick, was bound to have a Brick and Mortar. And we're lucky they do. 5 Stars read more

I haven't come to the new location so I wanted to give it a try. Very spacious interior, which they needed because they were very busy. The service was friendly and we didn't feel forgotten. I got a Philly cheesesteak rangoon and a white knight pizza. Pizzas come in one size, about a medium. I thought everything was cooked properly, and the flavor combination of the cheese, bacon, and honey was well balanced. Probably the only down side was the bathrooms might remind you of a dive bar, pretty disappointing for a new building. I can 100% recommend visiting. read more

Ive been here many times. The Service and atmosphere is always good. The wait time is hit or miss. It is a spot that has a few dishes I absolutely love, like the turkinator and Mikes hot honey butter bread, and some that were a miss. It is local so stopping by for a to-go order is nothing new. Today I tried a spinach gorganzola salad and added shrimp. Which was a $7 add-on making the whole salad $22.00 and I was very surprised to find only 4 shrimp. I understand everything is expensive but 4 shrimp just kind of seems like stretch. Anywho I do always think this place is good place to stop by if you've never been. I almost don't want to write a review for here because then other people will know about this hidden gem. But alas, it is too delish not to share. Came here with the besties because the one has been raving about the Thai pizza for forever and we needed this in our lives according to her. She was correct. But I'm getting ahead of myself. We kicked off with some drink specials, I had a Cherry Garcia martini because duh....have you ever heard of a Cherry Garcia martini? I haven't, so I needed it. Absolutely delish, perfect with the cherry on the bottom. Us girls split some Philly cheesesteak wontons, they were annihilated in about 2 mins. We then split the Thai pizza, mashed potato pizza, fig pizza, and took the spicy one to go. First time here, had seen it on instagram and decided to head down 395 and try it out. When we walked we were pleasantly surprised seeing the "dead" theme. My lady and I are fans of the dead and Phish so it was cool seeing all the posters. We were told there was a 25 minute wait and we only waited about 8 minutes. We ordered the Fresco and the Potato Bliss. The pizzas were phenomenal, the potato bliss pizza was disappointing because it wasn't the size of the table. I could've eaten 3 of those . The fresco was covered in sweet delicious sauce and tasty mozz. We will definitely be back to try out all the other pizzas. read more

Today we visited again because it was late and there were not a lot of places open and we had a good experienced yesterday. The food was good, the only thing was the band. We didn't expect the band to be there and they were kind of loud, I mean, they are a live band, which is normal. If you want a quiet dinner, make sure you check to see if the band is going to be playing. The food is great. read more

Solid brick oven pizza right off of 395. They offer a wide range on the menu but the star is their brick oven pizza. We did takeout here and overall experience was pleasant. They do Toast so payment was easy. Mowie Wowie Pizza was very tasty with the mixture of pineapple and bacon. And yes, pineapple on pizza does belong. Lol. Many pizza places don't offer any other dinner entrees other than salad but Brick and Basil does. We've tried the Turkey Tips entree and that was also a winner. Loved how the turkey tips were marinaded in honey bourbon. Turkey was incredibly moist. Truly enjoyed it. They also offer your usual coke beverages--but also the local Hosmer sodas which is a CT hidden gem. Overall staff was very pleasant during my short visit. Wife and I were starving after spending the day in the nearby hospital. We found Brick and Basil by chance on our way home. So glad we did. The Food and Service was excellent. We had the sandwiches and side salad which were very tasty. Atmosphere had a nice happy friendly vibe. We were lets-say overall impressed with the experience. I originally stepped in to this place about a year ago. And was blown away by the quality and flavor of their food. I ordered the bolognese and Philly Rangoons. My husband ordered steak frites. Everything was super flavorful and cooked to perfection. Down to the gravy that was served with the steak. A huge difference from our recent visit. The Rangoons were bland. Clearly, they changed the recipe. The bolognese was also bland. I'm not sure what has happened over the past year, but there clearly has been a huge change. Recently we made our second trip here...it was not like our first impression. The hostess was snippy with us when it was not the least bit crowded or busy on a Sunday. Our waitress was a joy, but the hostess was obviously having a bad day and was just rude.
