With some crackin realistic proper charity shop prices (80p for a book! i love it) and some right wee gems of the eclectic and eccentric nature (waffle iron anyone?) this holey trinity of charity shops is a must if your in this neck of the woods. My tip would be to spend most of your time in what looks like the main shop which is next to 1901 Deli, it may have the smalled selection of books of the three, however it has more bits, bobs and what nots.... To be entirely honest, i found the charity shops in this area to be of an extremely high quality. Ok they don't go for the 'vintage' market as much as there West End cousins, however the prices and quality of the gear is second to none. Excellent experience.

They really have avoided that modern charity shop trend of vetting items, and theming the store. This makes it a delight to browse, even if you have to be careful not to knock anything over. Cosgrove seems to own three shops on the street, and although there was a time when one was more about furniture, they all offer the same collision of second hand goods. Recently, they told me that they were not accepting electrical items anymore, which is a shame... I had some cheap lamps out of here that served me for three years. Unswayed by fashion, Cosgrove has that real old school charity atmosphere: dive in and enjoy.

He's happy for you just to browse - which is great. They have a wide variety of art on offer, varying in both style and price. They even offer small "exhibitions" of individual artists, which brings a great feeling to the place. It's eclectic, stylish and friendly; which is a great mix for an independent gallery! They've also done some collaborative work with charities to raise funds for some important causes.

Next time, I promise! The Lighthouse is tucked down Mitchell Lane and has a wonderful gift shop on the ground floor. I am a certified museum-gift-shop addict and this one is nearly as good as the one at GOMA. At the moment, they're selling some great stuff to accompany the "Hello My Name is Paul Smith" exhibition and I couldn't resist getting a couple of the pencils, an eraser as well as a nice card from the range. There's a lot of nice Scottish stuff if you're looking for a gift so it's worth a browse even if you're not planning on going to an exhibition. We were there to see the Paul Smith exhibition which is on the first floor and ticketed at £6 per adult. While I think the price is a little steep, it's a fab exhibition which was really interesting, stimulating and thought-provoking - I think we were only there for half an hour or so, but really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be back sooner rather than later for a visit to the viewing platform so I'll update accordingly! But for now, I'm already a massive fan so I can't expect the rating to change for this lovely gallery.

It's a lovely hidden museum, with free entry, and has all your museum-y needs, from general Glasgow goodness to a lovely Mackintosh exhibition. There's a 6th floor viewing platform, but you can also go to the 3rd floor and climb to the top of the viewing tower - which gives you phenomenal views of all of Glasgow. It really is something you must see! There's a cafe, a bar and a gift shop all included, and I genuinely can't believe I hadn't discovered this sooner! Go see it if you haven't already!

Mary Queen of Scots is belived to have visited the castle and during her visit a tradgedy occured when the roof of the great hall colapsed. Sadly the house has mainly been neglected in recent times. In 1996 Cumbernauld Development Corporation gave the house to North Lanarkshire Council and to the dismay of a lot of Cumbernauld residents, who hoped the house may be put to some use for local people, the council sold it to a private business who do not seem to be doing anything with this historic house. Although accsess to the house is not permitted the surrounding lands offer a tranquil park to relax in. These grounds played a part of the film Gregory's Girl. For those who have seen the film, when Gregory and Susan are on their date 'sort of' the wide open green area they go to is Cumbernauld House Park a great place to lie flat on your back and dance so as you don't fall off the world. Great for picnics and plenty of space for little ones to run arround.

It's a large space and it's divided up by fine art, natural history, etc. I wandered through all of the rooms and believe that I saw almost every exhibit. I'm not much of a museum person, but entrance is free. The expansive museum's west wing focuses on "Life" (natural history/prehistory), while the east wing focuses on "Expression" (fine art). There are 22 galleries with 8,000 objects. Salvador Dalí's "Christ of Saint John of the Cross" is one of their most famous works of art. I was most interested in "The Floating Heads" installation by Sophie Cave. We spent most of our time viewing Scotland's Wildlife, where most of the kids were. While we were there, we also enjoyed an organ recital- 1:00pm Monday-Saturday and 3:00pm on Sunday.

The deal is as follows - you can pick up any ten items (be they DVDs or CDs, mix and match as you please) for the very attractive price of £10. They have a pretty wide range on offer, too, even if it is a little eclectic. Mansfield Park and other BBC dramas languish beside Hollywood Rom Coms and stand up comedy. A little rummaging may be required but you're bound to find at least a couple that you fancy. And I haven't even mentioned the music! A large selection of albums released over the past few years grace the shelves in the music section, although you will find some older gems there too(Blondie, Eat to the Beat, anybody?). I saved up during lockdown, waiting eagerly for the stores lights to spark back on. £90 spent on two wonderful big pieces, Mums Wicker Chest and a Queen Anne Stool and then a wee Tenner Bag of bric a brac for personal gifts. Oh I do like a good wee barter. Boys my £100 of savings will go a long way to raising more smiles of others, because C & A helped me achieve more than my preset goals I thought they deserved a wee mention for their 100% welcoming service* Thanks Lads. For the last six years, C & A antiques have had a lovely wee Princess Jasmine ornament dancing in…read moretheir window, and I am on the verge of buying her before she gets left on the shelf forever! It's quite a wee grotto but it's always worth browsing. From time to time they get some desirable crockery sets in and the occassion spot of Americana diner paraphrenalia. I do enjoy their recurring Betty Boop collection, especially the big waitress Betty they had in the window a while back which was half the size of me! You could easily have put your cutlery on her. There's a little spattering of everything in here but it's worth a look if you're in the area and looking for a new print for your living room, or a little piece of history for your mantlepiece. I think Jasmine will soon be joining my collection of oddities, and I might perhaps begin a brass collection. They always seem to house an ecclectic selection of the latter, from boot polishers to an enchanting wee art nouveau carriage which looks like it's a candle holder. I'm almost tempted to buy it but since it has real working wheels I'm scared I'll set my house on fire. Next time you're passing through, stop in for a nosey.
