Tonight Rod Stewart is in town....with that said, they should have had plenty of staff in for tonight. Sit in the 2nd floor, it's HOT!!!! We waited AT LEAST 15 mins for our drink order. After another 15 minutes our waitress came back with only one of our drink orders and told us they were all out of Furious. After another 15 the rest of our drink order finally came. Another 15 minutes later we got our food order WHICH WAS WRONG. 10 minutes later, we got our correct order which we ordered with baked beans to share. The waitress didn't provide silverware or napkins but said she'd be right back. NEVER received silverware. Everyone was waiting for food & drinks, people are getting up helping themselves at the food window and napkins. Ridiculous! Never asked if we wanted more drinks or even water. The food was okay, had The Big Brick it was luke warm at best. The meat was good and would have been better if it were hot. We wanted a local bar and and just seems this place isn't staffed for busy/large crowds, disappointed. Awful, awful service. Walked into the place at 5, still here waiting for things at 6:35. Absolutely fantastic. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, there's a LOT of drinks on tap and I've never seen them strike out recommending a drink to someone who isn't sure what they want. I ordered the burnt ends, which is the juiciest and most flavorful part of a brisket baked, seasoned, and mixed with barbecue sauce. Absolutely terrible service...she was blonde with blue hair i had to go up and get our menus and i asked for 7 for 7 people and we got 4 and we waited 35 minutes to order an appetizer was told no specials or even if it was happy hour or not and then waited another 50 minutes for someone to even come take our order she was on her phone the whole time and sitting at other phones tables having long conversations. We even had to go over to get our check from her...horrible service I will not be coming back. Huge lack of customer service I hope her friends qt the bar are satisfied though. read more

She was so busy that I would have understood if she forgot something or if we had to wait....but instead she was on top of everything AND had a smile on her face the entire time! It was remarkable! Haven't tried the food here, so this review only covers the bar. Went here with a large group one night. Once I saw they had beers other than the big 3, I immediately liked the place. The space upstairs is nice too, especially for our large group. I don't go out for drinks very often in CR, but Bricks is on my list of favorites. read more

Brick's has an absolutely fantastic beer selection; unfortunately, that is basically where the pro's of this place end... They have a pretty small menu and 1/3 of my end cut sandwich was just chunks of charred fat. I had expected a pretty good sandwich when I saw an entire BBQ section on the menu, but I was pretty let down by the size, taste, and quality of the meat. We sat at bar and the service was good though. The bartender wasn't dry and formal and suited her demeanor to match us, which was very refreshing. I didn't have to match polite small talk about where I was from or what I was doing in Cedar Rapids; instead, we we able to just hit off a short conversation about what the in world all the noise could be from the few people in the loft above us. If you're looking for a get-together with friends for some quality beer, I would definitely recommend Brick's. They had a great special the night I was there (2 for 1 beers), and the selection really is first class. However, if you are looking for a nice menu to accompany your craft ale, maybe look elsewhere. read more

We stopped here on our way to Minneapolis. It was exactly the kind of place that was needed. With smoked BBQ all over the menu and 60 beers on tap behind the bar, there's something for the true American in you. Brick's definitely would be a great place to watch a game and catch up with buddies. Went out on a Thursday night with a group of 15+ for a friends birthday. We thought we should try to go downtown for a little bit for some food and drinks. Brick's can always be depended on for good food, but stay away if you want any type of respectful service. This is literally the third time where the bartenders would refuse to serve our group because we are friends with a girl that worked there three years ago that got terminated. Keeping personal opinions out of it I truly feel like the help here is the most unprofessional group of individuals that I have ever encountered. I am a CR native and truly feel like its time to hire some professional and moral help that is able to provide a good image in a Cedar Rapids bar that has been around for years. Rather than unprincipled entitled individuals who let personal issues from three years ago drive business away continually. In town for a baseball tournament & wanted a quick bite for lunch while being able to watch some games on TV. It's a small place and we got lunch that (1) we found it pretty empty and (2) the parking garage next door was empty too considering there was some arts thing going on a couple blocks over. Surprised me even more considering how much we enjoyed our food! We ordered the burnt ends for an appetizer, although a little disappointed in the amount for the price it was so tasty that I think my disappointment was purely that there wasn't more to eat! Great flavor and love the BBQ sauce. For our meals, my son got the club sandwich which look awesome and he licked his fingers so must have tasted just as good. The peppered bacon and fresh leaf lettuce on it was tempting me to steal a bite! I ordered their smoked wings as my meal and don't regret it one bit. These might be the best wings I've ever had! A ton of flavor! I regretfully shared some with my husband who says he's going to try smoking some wings at home but I know there just won't be a way he can't copy the same seasoning combo that made these special. My hub and ordered the chicken bacon ranch wrap which he said was good but he was too enamored with my wings so I think it made the wrap hard to compare. Four of my co-workers and I went to Brick's for lunch the other day. When we got there, no one was there to greet us and tell us where to sit or tell us if we should seat ourselves. Eventually we sat down and ordered. We were near the back, by the kitchen, and throughout our time there the waitresses were yelling at the cooks and it was generally unpleasant. We sat there for 50 minutes before we got our food, and only once did the waitress stop by (early on). No one ever asked us if we'd like another drink, refilled our waters, or apologized for how long it was taking. When we got our food, much of it was cold, and the rest wasn't very good. No one ever asked how the food was or if we needed anything. We had to get the waitress's attention to get the check and we told her how long we had been there and how frustrating it was because we had to get back to work. She agreed it was unacceptable and pinned the blame on the kitchen staff. The waitress came back with the check and told us that all she was authorized to do was to give us 10% off and that if we wanted something else we had to come in another time and talk to the manager. I told her that a discount of only 10% was ridiculous considering how long we had been there. She said there was nothing else she could do, and I told her she could've have apologized when the food was taking so long. She got very defensive and claimed she was busy, despite the restaurant being pretty empty most of the time we were there. The waitress then stormed out the back door and another waitress brought us our checks. She thanked us for coming in, but she did not apologize either. Overall, it was a terrible experience. I understand that the food may not have been her fault, but she should have communicated to us was happening and offered to accommodate us. Also, the offer of only a 10% discount is insulting. Most similar restaurants would have comped that meal, no questions asked. Awful. UPDATE: Here's an employee's (the owner's?) response. Decide for yourself whether this is where you want to spend your hard-earned money: "I apologize for the inconvenience you had the other day. In this industry we have moments that are pretty chaotic and sometimes things break down. This was one of the moments as we were actually very busy for what we are used to during this time of year. I am assuming this was your first visit to Brick's as it is also your first post on Yelp. You then went out of your way to create a profile to bad mouth Brick's. Cheers!" read more

Had the opportunity to grab a late lunch @ 3:00 in the afternoon. Place has a small town bar feel that you feel at home visiting. Place is known for the many beers on tap and about 3:30 the local work community started coming in for a few after work social drafts. Service was good but could have been better but that was due to the fact that it filled up quick and the waitress seemed to pay more attention to the after work crowd than myself and 2 with me that were drinking ice tea and lemonade. Took over and hour for us to get our food order that was two cheeseburgers and a kielbasa sandwich. The food was good, but the wait was just excessive. Not sure why it took so long and never received a reason. Menu is small only one side of the page. If your looking for a place to unwind with a beer, and some bar food that will take a little while to come out. Than this is a great place for you. read more

I use to be a regular customer at bricks, use to know everybody by name, and spent a lot of money here however one night I came in and sat down to have a drink like I always do....I had waited about 15-20 minutes to get a drink in which the bartender clearly had seen the person I was with and I sit down but was to busy flirting with a lady at the bar to do his job. Deciding I didn't want to wait any longer I asked a server if she could get me a beer which she then put the order in to the bartender. The bartender then came down to me and said if I wanted to drink at his bar I had to order through him I then left and that is why I have never been back to this bar other then one time. read more

I used to love coming to this place. The wings were really good and really cheap. The beer was cheap. The atmosphere was and is still very relaxing. My dislike is the fact that the food has gone dramatically down. The wing sauces aren't the same anymore and are actually pretty bad. I've gone to Bricks for over 5 years and it has always been a great place to stop into for food and drink. I prefer the upper level seating because it is quieter and you can look down on the tables on the first floor which is fun. The food is very good and the variety goes beyond bar food, they always have specials on food or drinks going on, mostly wells and domestics but if that's your thing it works out. It gets very, very crowded and loud on the weekends because of how small the place is but it's still possible to get a table for a group. read more

It was Surly "tap takeover" when I was at Bricks - awesome. And if you don't like Surly beers there's still probably about 30 other beers on tap to choose from. Adam was a great bartender- super friendly, fast, and quick to recommend a new brew. I had the brisket sandwich and was very solid. Bricks has become a regular place for us to hit up. They recently changed the menu, and last night I tried their cream cheese wontons, cheese wedges, and mild boneless wings. The cream cheese wontons were awesome, they had some tomato and basil mixed in and the sauce it comes with is SO good. A little heat, a little sweet. nom nom nom. Cheese wedges are like mozzarella sticks, only better. Cheesier and I like the shape :) and again the dipping sauce was really good! Bartender was awesome too. Unbelievable selection of beers. Great atmosphere and very large bar. Didn't try the food just went there for drinks. The only reason it didn't receive a5 star was because of the cleanliness of the bathrooms. It was 3 o'clock in the afternoon and there was puke on the toilet for what I would presume from the night before.
