There are couple small museums, theaters, groceries and apothecaries too. As the central historic district, it serves as a downtown pedestrian walking and shopping area with charming cobblestone streets, and is popular with both locals and tourists. While busy during off-peak season, especially on weekends, I imagine it'd be even more crowded during summer months. You could spend a full afternoon walking around if you're browsing, stop for a meal and grab a gelato from one of a few gelaterias. Most retail stores open around 10am, with restaurants opening times varying between 9am and 12:30pm. There are a number of souvenirs shops in this area since it's close to the port (see my separate review, and also where cruise ships also dock), though hopefully it doesn't become even more touristy than it already is. A few blocks north of this street is Villa Comunale di Sorrento, a small public park with gorgeous views overlooking the Marina Piccola seafront cliffs and piers. There's not much parking so would recommend parking further away and taking public transit or walking over.

This is a ceramics shop that deals entirely in items produced in Italy. Most of their items are made in Campania by local artists. Everything here is beautiful. They have something for just about anyone who would like a beautiful memento of their trip to Ischia. I particularly love their ceramic fish. They're lively and beautiful. Some of them on the outside of the shop are made to look like local fishes. Some are signed by the artists. Also available are the beautiful tiles typical of the region that use a process similar in idea to cloisonne. The picture is outlined by ridges in the tile and then the colors are filled into the areas outlined. Then the whole thing is baked so that you end up with a beautiful and textured design. Love these tiles. I bought several. Actually, we hit this shop with a particular vengence. The man who works there was really nice and answered all our questions. He was proud of their art and if you liked one thing he could make other recommendations that you might like more. He also helped us pack up our things so that they were very safe on the way home. We only suffered one breakage of a particularly delicate item. We were unhappy about it, but the break was our fault, not his. If you're looking for a high quality memento, please consider stopping at this beautiful little shop. You will be happy that you did.
