Woky Ko - Crispy duck salad...

What I found from their Cargo location in Bristol's Wapping Wharf was a slightly pricey, though not overpriced, but delicious meal with incredible mains and sides. If you want to skip the long form review, its good and you should definitely go. First, our mains. I chose the *KFC Chicken Katsu Curry and my wife picked the Ground Pork Tantanmen ramen. Part of the reason we had chosen the Cargo location was my wife wanting a good soup and the Tantanmen fit the bill. We barely got it in the picture it was so good. The stock was a bit creamy and had that good spice/heat that sits in the back of the throat. The noodles and pork were delicious and cooked perfectly. The *KFC (for Korean Fried Chicken) Katsu Curry was great, the curry sauce being separate was ideal, and the chicken was juicy and tender without being greasy. Both dishes were really well portioned for a mains price. The sides were plentiful and also well priced with umami ribs, toasted edamame, grilled pak choy, charshu pork belly, and a seasoned egg. The umami ribs were the priciest but were delicious and fall off the bone good. Would have liked a little more meat on them but great either way. The charshu pork belly was incredible, tender and a savory sweet. The toasted edamame really surprised as did the grilled pak choy, though I preferred the edamame. My wife enjoyed the egg but admitted it would have been better added to the ramen. Delicious food that will definitely bring us back for more.

The weather was fiiiiine, and the food finer. The crispy duck rice noodle salad was stunning - vibrant orange zinged through rich, decadently fatty meat. There was a nice hint of spice and the veg was fresh and crunchy. The baos - £4.25 each - were like miniature fluffy pillows. The pick of the two I had was ox cheek, daikon and bulgogi. The Korean fried chicken Bao, was delish and had a serious kick from the fiery kimchi! Love the community feel of CARGO and this is a great addition to the burgeoning Brizzle foodie scene...

The place does have a great Spanish feel and the staff are all Spanish adding to that authentic vibe. I ordered a small glass of Rioja which was £4.50, that sort of price is expected for good wine but this was a house Rioja and nothing special. A few of our party ordered sangria and were very complimentary about it. We all opted for the £20 deal where you get a variety of tapas followed by deserts and coffee. AMAZING value for the money. As the food started appearing our faces lit up with shear delight! Dish after dish was brought out in quick succession to the point that there was no more room on the table and we had to start filling our plates quickly to allow for more! The food was delicious and plentiful, stand out dishes for me were the Spanish sausage and giant prawns but it was all lovely. At this point I was sure this was going to be a 4 star rating. While we were still eating our mountain of tapas they started clearing our plates, including food that wasn't finished. That was the first thing that annoyed me. We then had a massive wait after the plates were all cleared away and when finally someone did arrive they were clearly having a bad night and really let it show. We were asked whether we wanted to see the desert menu and when we told the waitress we were excepting a selection of deserts as part of our meal deal, she made some snotty remark about how she was only checking as they needed to be prepared. When the deserts came they were nice, but there were 5 between 7 of us to share and my friend explained last time they'd had 4 to share between 4 of them! The food was all delicious but the service let it down. I do love El Porto and think it's great for value for money, but Bravas on whiteladies is still my fav for quality and service.

More expensive than either, it's better than the former but doesn't offer a reason not to spend less at Severn Shed. Tapas and everything else you would expect is to be found on the menu. The food's got heaps of latin flavour, and they've certainly done their best to justify their prices in this respect. Furthermore, the the warm and intimate ambience is just right for this sort of place. However, when classy Severn Shed are hawking five pound lunches a restaurant needs to have something special to charge over the odds. El Puerto doesn't unfortunately, making it somewhere to visit if you've got a hunger pang for something latin but perhaps not otherwise.

They host delectable paella night, dishing up the saffrony rice feast from a huge pan and serving it with a cheeky bottle of Rioja. Inside is cavernous, though tiny (only seats 24 people), the acoustic musicians that frequent pulse their folky and flamenco sounds around the place. The music nights are free entry too - bargain. Right now, I can truly think of nothing better than settling down to some chorizo and calamari tapas, a glass of red and chilled musical entertainment on a Friday evening.

It's colours and decorations draw your eye in and when we walked past the music caught our ears as well. Walking in, we arrived before the main rush, your greeted by a simple bar and relaxed staff each of whom snippets of Spanish can be heard from. We where shown to a table and offered a menu which covered all the tapas dishes we've come to expect of a Spanish menu and decided on a jug of the house Sangria. Service gave us a good amount of time to choose whilst the Sangria helped us along the way, even had a visit from the most relaxed dog we've shared a space with all adding to the ambiance. The dishes we chose were a good range and came pretty much all at once, given the size of table, dish jenga ensued however because we managed to fit it all in. We managed to get a second round in and also spoke to the waitress about the Spanish lessons they offer there. By this time it was really busy with a few locals getting ready for the live band. This place definitely packs all it can in a space. The band was excellent and spontaneous dancing occurred really excellent crowd. All in again really impressed and on a sunny day a serious bit if Spain. Fully visiting again.

If you haven't heard of The Grace, then it is what used to be The Robin Hood on Gloucester Road. It was taken over by the guys that own Zazu's Kitchen and The Greenbank in Easton - so it has extremely good credentials. The place looks and feels very similar to its former days as the Robin Hood, but has been spruced up and feels really nice and welcoming. Personally I'd try and give it a bit more personality, maybe some statement art work or colour on the walls - but it works fine as it is. They have one of best, hidden gardens of any pub/restaurant in Bristol and I will definitely making more use of it during the summer. Right, onto the food - amazing! Seriously, this is some of the best food I've had in a long time. Between the 4 of us we ordered 8 or 9 of the small plate dishes and everyone one of them was a triumph. The menu is seasonal and understated and I found it quite difficult to chose from. the dishes are brought brought to the table looking like something from Masterchef, it's a real treat and got me really excited. Stand out dishes were the Venison and the ham hock with clementines. We also had a Parsnip dish which was just beautiful, I struggle to imagine that anyone has ever made parsnips look or taste better. I'll be back to The Grace really soon and can't wait for their spring menu change (which I'm assuming they will do) This is definitely one of the the best small plate restaurants in Bristol, and I think you'd have to travel far to do much better.

Although I didn't eat this visit, the small plates menu on the blackboard looked very promising - a 'tapas style ' menu that had a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern feel. (Think, 'foodie food' in a grown-up bar/restaurant) I have earmarked it as a definite place to come back and visit for food. The restaurant itself has undergone a facelift recently. The decor is lighter and more open these days, while still maintaining the period old features that give this place character and charm, like the fireplace, the dark wooden bar and the gorgeous windows. I was sad to say goodbye the former restaurant in this spot - The Robin Hoods Retreat. However, from my first impression, I can imagine that I will thoroughly enjoy The Grace.

Nice crowd here too. A day later I returned with my wife just around their closing time and while they had indeed closed up for the night - the staff was having their end-of-week toasts - they STILL very hospitable allowed us to sit and enjoy a glass or 2, rather than simply asking us to leave.
