An organic fuss free no hang ups Japanese cafe that's packed during lunch hour but service is remarkably quick and the staff are always lovely and smiling. This alone makes you appreciate your food more and knowing that they appreciate your patronage as well. True to their motto and concept I believe. What goes around comes around... Famed for their Japanese curries on rice thy also serve noodles and salads but don't expect a huge menu. They also serve A few types of maki handrolls that are big in size but you won't find your average Sushi offerings here. They have a clear focus in their menu and the menu is shown with pictures and descriptions on the wall and at the counter. It's tight space inside but comfy. I have always had the curries take away and wait outside on the footpath so not to crowd the inside and the staff graciously will call our your number and seeing you outside will bring it out straight away. That, my friends, is pure service. They also open for dinner with a heavier menu but I've not tried that yet. I highly recommend this place for unexpectedly hearty and fulfilling Japanese meals that isn't sushi or rolls. read more

Brim CC is such a little gem! You can get a healthy, yummy salad and curry / rice set for less than a tenner, plus it's all organic, gluten free and they have great vegetarian options! I don't know how they do it for such a bargain price... This is a pretty low-key Japanese cafe, but it does have a loyal following and the tables are always full at lunchtime. It's a comfortable spot to eat alone with a great selection of books and magazines on healthy and eco living. The staff are super-polite as only the Japanese can be, and the wooden spoons add to the authentic feel. after being refused service at gypsy and pig that does not take online bookings and sign seat patrons even when tables are free and booking doesn't arrive until 45 minutes later I had to find a next best option for my friends katsu curry craving. Google suggested brim cc. a 20 minutes walk later we came to a hole in the wall with pre cooked meals in large rice cookers. and one curry option. the Tokyo curry in chicken beef or veggie. Cold night. two hungry travelers. large portion sizes and eftpos only after you spend 10 dollars we decided to stay. sitting on a small table on very low stools we ordered two Tokyo chicken curries with white and black rice. as we waited for our food to be slopped into bowl plates I noticed tissues with writing on the wall and an old pillow that had been shaped into a map of Japan. my stomach felt queasy and I expected the worst. a sickly orangey yellow curry arrived with a massive portion of floppy white rice with some black In it. large pieces of carrot in some very thick curry with tender pulled chicken. the first warm bite melted my heart and warmed my soul. each bite was tender delicious flavoursome. plain simple but scrumptious made me feel at home. u forgot about my surroundings as I ate even after my leggings felt too tight yummm. Everything that I, or my dining companions, have ordered here has been delicious. There are lots of vegetarian options including an amazing salad that has three distinct but complementary flavours. I could eat it everyday and not get sick of it! The vegetable curry is amazingly flavourful and actually vegetarian! A lot of veggie curries have a chicken base so thumbs up for this one being proper veggie. There's a lot of Japanese food around Melbourne, and a quite a few really good ones. I was introduced to this place by a barista who told me it was her favourite for Japanese curry. The place is pretty small but has an amazing clean homely feel which reflects the food and service. The staff are all so polite and friendly, just as you'd expect from the typical Japanese hospitality. It's very inexpensive with a curry setting you back less the 10. The menu is a bit hard to follow. With most of the board for dinner service only and some options not on the board. Come noon, there's a line out the door but don't let this dissuade you from coming. The food is fantastic. Some of the best curry I've had with a great flavour and texture. I recommend the curry salad set, which gives you a half serve of curry with a salad. There's lots of delicious things to try though. It's also a good idea to come for dinner as there's no line and more options. read more

I arrived at around 1.30pm, after the supposed lunch time madness. Ordered the regular beef curry dish for $9.50 and the serving was huge! Granted a lot of it was rice, but the curry itself was rich in flavour, beef was of good quality (not chewy or fatty like some places I've been), and mixed in with good ole' carrots and potatoes. Quite a simple, hearty meal in a relatively minimalistic-designed cafe. I had to ask the waitress for the name of the place (so I could check in hehe) as the only name out the front was "Japanese organic cafe". There appeared to be a wide variety of options for vegetarians, and I instantly regretted not trying the half curry, half salad option when my plate came out (just coz there was waaaay too much rice!). Alternatively I might go the "small" option next time which is half a serve of curry for $5 By the way service is really nice. You can also ask for a glass of tap water if no other drinks tickle your fancy. read more

My favorite here would be the chicken curry, the beef curry is pretty good too. You will struggle to finish the large serving of curry, so I prefer to go for a half size curry with a salad. I have only been for lunch, but the dinner menu looks really good, they even have okonomiyaki, which I must try some time. Healthy, tasty, cheap food. You can't go wrong. read more

Great value filling Japanese food (chicken curry, rice and salad set for $9.50 is the winner winner chicken dinner). It's always fresh and salads perfect in freshness and flavouring. However, be aware that this is mainly a Katsu curry house at lunchtime which isn't everyone's idea of Japanese food. Dinner time see a little more variety. Five years ago this place would have been a five star venue however there's so much authentic Japanese available these days that its now a solid four stars. Definitely worth at least one visit. For curry rice, you can order small size which is half price. The full portion is quite huge so be careful. It's the most popular dish here. One of my favourite places for lunch in the CBD. They are a Japanese cafe that use organic produce - fantastic! They sell soups, curries, stirfry, bento, salads, and stuff. Their prices are reasonable. Most of all, the flavour of the food is the bomb - diggity!! There's not a lot of room to sit to eat (sometimes you get lucky) ... This is a small shop in CBD that uses fresh & organic ingredients. Portion sizes are big. Value for money. If you order the teriyaki chicken, you get a lot of chicken, and it's well-seasoned. As for the Okonomiyaki, again, portion is big. Lots of cabbage in a pancake-like batter, dressed with mayonnaise & BBQ sauce. Since it's a small shop, seating capacity is very limited. But, I visited during dinner, when it's not busy at all. So I had no problem getting a table. read more
