Brindleyplace is an area of Birmingham Centre with shops, restaurants and cafes. It's not somewhere I tend to visit very often (as many of the places up here are chain businesses), but from todays visit, I'm definitely wondering if I should make more of an effort.
Situated off the canal, the mixture of old and new architecture makes this a genuinely lovely place. Between the water features, the benches (to allow people to sit and enjoy the sunshine) and the well kept and clean styling; it really is a gem of Birmingham.
As well as various retail outlets, there are attractions such as the Sealife Centre and the Ikon Gallery within a stones throw from each other. During the year various festivals are held around this area, including the Dragonboat festival, the Chili festival and open air film showings; which are mostly free to enter. Many art and cultural events take place in Brindley over the Summer too, so it's worth keeping an eye on their website for information on whats coming up.
Brindleyplace is a slightly more expensive side to Birmingham (with expensive restaurants such as Bank and more pricey bars), but you can still grab a coffee or a meal for a reasonable price. At lunchtime there are several venues which do special lunch deals (mainly catering to the many offices), so you can grab an express lunch with a drink for a fiver.
All in all, well worth a visit in the daytime. In the evening and weekends it becomes a busy hubbub of people visiting the various bars and eateries for a night out. Again, due to the slightly higher cost of many of the establishments; you don't tend to get the inebriated youfs which are present on Broad Street. It's not somewhere I would tend to go (as it's a bit mainstream), but if I was invited out for a special occasion I wouldn't say no.
It's pretty, light and clean. Nice to grab a coffee or some lunch and enjoy the sunshine *Weather permitting. read more
