Although all the stalls have umbrellas and marquees, on a hot sunny day there's quite a lot of direct sun and it can get pretty hot. The preview reviewer got the times wrong - they run from 6am to noon. I'm glad to see a good use for the Stone's Corner area, which was previously inhabited by a few odd cafes, discount outlets and a huge amount of empty shops. These markets are pretty much like all Jan Powers Farmers Markets - if you've been to any of the other ones, you'll recognise most of the stalls. The quality of food sellers, and fresh produce is pretty high and lots of great deli products - the Eumundi Smokehouse makes amazing chicken chorizo sausages!

As Rhiannon says, the suppliers don't tend to change that much but I'm OK with that as long as I can get fresh, locally made goats cheese and snack on a kransky or 3. You pay a bit of a premium for some things, however taste and quality is extremely apparent in food so if you want a really special meal pay a little bit more. Also, I always manage to find a chinese style stall at the back with cheaper veg so I can still fulfil my bargain hunter instinct.

You might ask why I would go this effort? Well, I'll tell you. At this "Self Serve Fruit Mart" the produce is fresher, the prices are lower and service is friendlier than any Coles/Woolworths experience I've had. Not only that, but the produce is all seasonal and chances are the farmer who grew it is benefitting much more from the stock sold. I am a HUGE believer in supporting local business, so if you're in, around or even ever in West End, I would highly recommend you pick up your weeks groceries from somewhere like Charlie & Liz's Self Serve Fruit Mart. Not only will you save money, but what you spend will be feeding the local economy and helping more locals out.

Whilst this is a nice little fruit and veg shop with temptingly displayed produce, I'd never do all my fruit and veg shopping here as it's too small and too expensive. I try to do a bulk shop on the weekend at either The Gabba Fruit Market or the Davies Park Markets, where you really get value for money, but if I forget something, I'd much rather pop into Charlie & Liz's than go to Coles. It's a handy little store, in the middle of Boundary Street, the produce is good and supporting small businesses is always good.

Several great food stalls towards the middle of the market. In particular I would recommend NYC bagels they make a bagel sandwich called the brat it's my favorite. You pick the bagel it comes in and the brat has bacon, rocket, avocado, and what makes it great is their aioli sauce. Produce here is pretty cheap there is always a deal going on in one stall versus the other so take ur time to compare a bit before buying. The stalls towards the middle I find tend to be generally cheaper. But the stalls at the end usually would do the clearance sales towards ends of the market day.

It's a large, snaky space, with many things other than vegetables, including cooked food vendors, merchants of other ilks, and various forms of massage. List not exhaustive. I've had little trouble finding my go-to vegetables at better prices than Coles. The location isn't perfect. It doesn't drain well, and rain comes often in Brisbane. Parking is limited, and only one meaningful bus route goes by. Also, everyone else is right that you want to think about getting in early, which may or may not be easy to do on a Saturday morning depending on your disposition. But by all means, if you can get here, you'll find something good.

After first focusing on one location behind Boundary Hotel, they seem to have shifted focus to a slightly more visible location by Rumpus Room. In any case, the setting isn't quite as substantial, the vendors not as numerous, and the crowd not as dense as it was shortly before the old location closed. Evaluated on its own merits, the new space has some worthwhile vendors, especially for dessert. As it's even closer to the other businesses in the area than it was before, it now seems to make more sense as a brief stop along the way rather than as an event unto itself. I find their options quite vegetarian-friendly (and beyond, in many cases). And it's nice to have choices.

Beer is served in the astroturf area. A fair amount of seating is available. The handmade stalls, however, are decimated. I think I only saw around 5 such and all were jewellery. I think what was missing was a fun drink. Your choices are chai, coffee (hot or bottled), iced tea, soft drink cans, beer... This place could do, in its relaxed picnic feel, a good bulk mixed cocktail and/or sangria and/or exotic slushie. Hot tip... Suncorp atm is across the road! Now the bad news... Emanating across the back seating area was a putrid stink. Was it sewage? Was it a grease trap? Just keep it to yourself and sit around the side. Let some other people sit there. ;)

The South Bank Regional Flavours Festival is an annual event that showcases gourmet regional…read moreproduce and supports and encourages sustainable practices. For a weekend in July, the South Bank Parklands transforms into the most mouth watering produce market I have ever been to. There was everything from fresh lime juice, to Haloumi Cheese and wines. With more than 100 market stalls, I really did not know what to look at and just let the aromas, tastes, and sights lead me through. I think my favourite was Jim's Jerky where I taste tested a few and ended up with the Peri Peri Jerky that was so addictive I polished off the whole packet before I even left the festival. You could taste test yourself through the entire festival and probably end up with a completely full belly but I do love buying a little bit of all the things that I enjoy. Whether you are a foodie or just want something different to do on a lazy weekend, I urge you to check out the South Bank Regional Flavours Festival. You will not regret it.
