Everything has a designated area here, not cluttered or messy but placed and orderly with ample room left to negotiate your path around and browse for some gems. As I previously mentioned it's not the largest so their book section isn't as large as many other charity shops and the same goes for most of the varying sections. I only bought one book when I was there last but I'll definitely be returning for some more knockdown goodies. Remember, one (wo)mans trash is another (wo)mans treasure! There was quite a selection to see and choose from, with a lot of items being better quality than what I'm used to, I checked their plates and and they where all good condition, no chips or cracks. On speaking to a member of staff I was told that if anything came in with any damage it would not be sold, now if that was anywhere in Glasgow they would have sold a dish or plate with chips, cracks for full price.

And quite right too, as it's all for a good cause! Maybe it's the location that does it, but the stock at this particular Oxfam shop tends to be quite high-end, and even with their intelligent pricing, you can still pick up some amazing bargains on brand-name items, particularly coats and jackets. The book section offers a good selection of newer & recently released novels / paperbacks - all at the cheap oxfam prices of roughly £1.50 on average. Yes the hackney branch is cheaper, however this shop is better located and always has a great & ample stock of books in store - which makes it well worth a browse when in the local vicinity. The prices they set are unbelievably low compared to some other well known charities. You can pick up designer jeans for £3 and designer tops for as little as £2 each. There's a huge stock of books, dvds, videos etc a large mens clothing and shoes area and lots of toys, gifts and bedding etc. The baby clothes are from as little as 20p per item, I've kitted out my wardrobe from this shop. It is so busy and a real community area where people meet and chat and everyone is friendly. All the staff except the manageress are volunteers and it's for a very worthwhile cause. (the cottage hospice has about 14 shops in total)

I've found more than a few bargains in this shop, and they stock a wide range of goods including bric-a-brac, toys, shoes, books, clothes, household wares, and more recently they have started to sell small PAT tested electrical items. One of the great things about this shop is that they don't overprice items, recently I have noticed charity shops have been becoming very expensive and sometimes it ends up that you're better off buying something new in a cheap shop such as Primark than a second hand item. This is not the case in here, items are always very fairly priced. Look out for the bargain rail which is usually outside the shop when the weather is good enough - it is filled with items of clothing for 75p which have been in the shop for a set period of time - a sort of a clearance rail!

I didn't say it was a complex routine now, did I? This particular Oxfam is very well located for donations from surrounding nice neighbourhoods and there's always something in there I like. It's quite a small shop but manages to pack a decent range of stuff in there and there's a glass cabinet at the back which often contains interesting old camera bits and bobs. I recently bought an old flash for no other reason than it looked brilliant and goes very nicely on a shelf along with some old Polaroids and a 1960s Brownie 8mm film camera.

You see, where I use to live in Dalston there was an Oxfam that was dedicated to music, books and films. Most vinyl was a pound an books started from 50p. I have never quite seen a collection like that in a charity shop until now. Not only does this shop have a mini fort made of fabulous vinyl but it ranges from classic David Bowie to modern trance. They know what they are talking about in this shop so yes things are a little bit more expensive with £4.99 for a Dylan album, but that actually makes me respect them more. Not only that though, at the back they have old working typewriters, antique travel chests, hand driven Singers and 1970s tea sets. It's like Narina, never ending!

This place has the best variety of goods that are reasonably priced; this is compared to the other charity stores in the area. They always have fantastic music playing and the volunteers are all so friendly and helpful (me included!). If you are in need trying to outfit your house or find an outfit for yourself on a budget (and who isn't on a budget in London?) this is the place to go. Also if you're just looking for a lazy weekend chat, swing by and come hang out or if you're interested, they are always looking for volunteers.

Oxfam especially seems to me as though it is the (second-hand) Rolls Royce of charity retail establishments. They're never quite spotless (well, come on) but I find that they still manage to display a lot of stuff without the place appearing as a cluttered mess. Although Oxfam does usually cost a fraction more than most charity merchandising outlets, I believe it is justified because of the enhanced shopping experience they provide. And also, quality comes at a price!! Anyway, where else can you pick up a new(ish) book, a new(ish) shirt and a greetings card for little over a fiver? Well, in other charity shops but most importantly - in Oxfam! If you don't go charity shop shopping then I say that you are missing a trick and would strongly recommend you give it a go, last time I was in here I left with four books (or five?) and a CD - happy days! With the afternoon off, on my way I went to have a wander through the local shops…read more Quite often I'm Glasgow scouring the local charity shops and why break the habit of a life time, I had passed this shop when I went to purchase an Oyster card to get my self around and made a mental note to call in on the way past. Not your typical oxfam shop, in this area there are quite a few of them and competition must fierce, with many not lasting. This oxfam store had a impressive window display and that's what really bought me in. With many items being new items that other places hadn't sold, I spotted a Wimbledon back pack that normally sells for £60 in the Wimbledon shop here for £2 even though it may be last years bag, the design is still the same as this years. Overall good shop for bargains.
