After a bit of research, this Downtown Car park was the cheapest option. For the entire day, (it was a Saturday) it only cost $7.50! This was no early bird rate either, that was the weekend rate and everywhere else was much more, Wilson was charging $20 so the Downtown car park was way cheaper. It was pretty busy and no wonder, great price and location, literally a 5 minute walk to the Ferry Building. If ever I need parking in Auckland CBD, I would park here and walk or bus to where ever I needed to be, the rates are really good. For example evening rates are $2 per hour or a maximum of $7.50 so if you were having dinner and or drinks in town this would be a good option as opposed to other casual parking rates of around $3 for a half hour. It's so busy and crowded that finding a good parking space is often like finding gold. But then you have to pay a ridiculous sum of money for like 30 minutes of parking. Fuck that! There's a stretch of road on the Grafton side of Grafton Bridge where parking is $1 per hour. Not only that but you can park for up to four hours. And every time that I have driven on this stretch of road I have been able to find a park no worries. Probably the only problem with parking in this location is that it's quite far from the lower side of the city. You need to weigh up the odds of walking for a while, or paying more cash. Walking is good for you anyway.

Anyway now that those changes have been made I've been exploring other options for parking. Parking buildings are never the cheapest but when your options are low and your lecture starts in 5 minutes you may just have to zoot into a building. This is what I did last week at the Wilson building on St Pauls Street known as "Unipark". Now it must be called Unipark because it is pretty much reserves for AUT staff. What a bloody mission. I drove round and round all the way to the top to find some parks that weren't reserved for staff! Eventually those annoying reserved signs started disappearing but all the public car parks were full. I had to hit the rooftop level to find one. So just know - there are parks here but you will have to sift through a hundred million AUT staff spots to find one. More annoying is a lot of the reserved ones are often free and right by the ground floor. Oh so tempting!

It is quite central to Newmarket so whether shopping, brunching at one of the great cafes on Carlton Gore Rd or going to early morning yoga or a swim at Olympic Pools it isn't much of a walk anywhere. Event Cinemas on Broadway will even validate your ticket so you get discounted parking, but really the pricing for this car park is reasonable. You can park in the evening after 6pm for a maximum of $8 which is great if you plan on making a night of it. Beware, it closes at midnight so if you're not out by then you're car might turn into a pumpkin.

Although there are two shacks made of wood and tin that look like they may collapse if someone slams their car door closed, this is all the covered car parking available and this is reserved parking. This car park is more probably suited to an off road vehicle because it is of mixed terrain, concrete, wood and gravel. The wire fencing gives you the impression this is an impound lot where cars have been placed involuntarily rather than by the owner themselves. I still can't get over the fact this car park, despite being owned by Tournament is so crappy. Surely they make enough money to at least resurface it? If you were desperate for parking then maybe consider parking here or try your luck trying to locate one of the other 4000 car parks that are available around the Newmarket area. Unbelievably this is not one of the Tournament car parks that has the cheap all day $5 weekend rate.

When our car was broken into and all belongings stolen, car park staff were decidedly unhelpful. Security vehicle monitors on a regular basis but is apathetic and ineffective. Vector is the premier destination for events in Auckland. I've been here for basketball games,…read moreconcerts and even black tie dinners. It's one of those multipurpose venues that does a great job of catering to all situations. I'm not sure on exact numbers are but for a sports game I think capacity is around 8000 and a sit down dinner closer to 1500. Also, it's useful to note that they also have a smaller music venue called The Tuning Fork. Here they host less mainstream concerts feat. up and coming artists. Acoustically, it's a great space and well worth checking out if the opportunity arises!
