It doesn't lean much but yes, it *is* leaning. According to local legend, the tower was purchased by the city in 1980 but they could never manage to meet local building code. So when the city looked to get this off their hands, the owner of the local fuel stop bought it to use for capturing attention from people who might otherwise blast by on I-40. Unfortunately, the fuel stop burned down and the owner has since passed away. The only attention this tower is getting now is for itself. It is less than five minutes to exit the highway onto the service road, stop for a picture, and get back up onto the highway. It's worth it. The name really says it all. As roadside attractions go, it's a bit underwhelming. I wish it was bigger or leaned more, but it's kinda cool. The patriotic label on the tower is cute. Worth slowing down the car and looking out the window, but not worth driving out of your way or getting off the highway - unless you really want the photo op. You have to know that you're looking for it, because it's not labeled as leaning or anything. read more
