This is a tough review... the place is wonderful. The restaurant is good, and I hung out in the bar…read moremost every night. Rooms are nice looking and well furnished. I would be giving it a solid four stars for all of that, and possibly 5. The primary problem is the bathrooms (we've been in two separate rooms with the same issues). There is black mold and mildew on the tile grout. And paint is peeling on the wood surfaces. They need a good remodel/refurbishment. Another issue is general maintenance and repair. We were moved from one room because the tub drain plug would not withdraw. In the next room, the pocket door to the toilet kept coming off the runner or would not slide fully into the pocket. The casement latches on the windows needed repair. And the hinges on the dresser needed tightening. We would stay here again in a second. But I do hope that some money can be invested to fix the physical issues and make this a truly awesome place.

In fact, our room overlooked a hospital ward where I could see the beds, screens, pulleys and medical staff wandering around. The room itself is standard chain hotel fare - nothing to write home about. The minibar/fridge setup as mentioned in other reviews is a bit bizarre. The bathroom was pretty nice, very powerful shower. I got a special rate on the room as I was with a large group, however standard rates, for Clydebank - not value for money. Clydebank is a bit of a hole - stay in Glasgow city centre if that's where you are headed. Night time taxis from city to Clydebank will set you back 20-30 GBP, so spend the money on a nicer hotel in the city where you won't be sharing square footage with hospital patients. PS. The grounds are completely non-smoking, according to the signage around the hotel

Lovely B&B- Friendly and awesome breakfast!…read more A cosy and comfortable place to stay, tasteful decoration, and an amazing real log fire! All round it was a first-class experience. The room was spotless and everything in working order. Plenty of books, dvds to share in the hallway. Got a nice nights sleep. The hosts, Sid and Lucy were very accommodating and helpful when I had questions about the area. Will definitely stay here again when I return to Scotland. Thanks for a great stay!

I stayed there for one night in an ensuite room. I found it very pricey for what I found once…read morethere. The room was extremely simple, but I find the price we paid was closer to a B&B. Our room was next to a door that was banging since early in the morning. The worst part was waking up with the fire alarm. We had to evacuate the building twice in a 10 minute slot, learning afterwards the fire alarm was caused by a shower in one of the rooms. Staff apologised for it, but I would have expected some kind of compensation for the inconvenience.

I have never stayed here so wouldn't dare comment on the rooms or the service and so this review is off the bar alone, which itself is pretty good - small quiet and cosy, with an excellent beer garden. The Bothwell Hotel is a real homing point come a sunny day. Literally everyone ends up here, drinking cider on the grass, swatting away the bees and wondering how on earth we can be bothered with the wind and the rain we are normally lumbered with here in Glasgow. It's been here for years too which gives it a real sense of itself. It was formally known as the Country Club - most people, including myself, still call it this.

The food is not terrific, and tends to be a bit variable in quality (roast potatoes not roasted etc.) However while the staff are pleasant enough, I have to say that the actual hotel accommodation is not very good at all. When I stayed there I was given a room with only one working light. I then decided to take a shower, but the shower came apart in my hands. All in all, not good enough.

The chef made my daughter some special garlic butter for her steak & she was thrilled. Another daughter didn't like her dinner & they took it off the bill. The bathroom is huge & the towel warmer was a nice touch. My only complaint about is that there's no elevator but we managed fine. Also not convenient to have to ask for ice to be brought to my room but the staff was always helpful. Being Americans on our first visit to Scotland we didn't know what to expect but we were very happy & hope to come back.
