What was once a half empty shop filled with the voice of a screeching manager (now apparently gone, thank goodness), is now a serene and inspirational gardening experience. We came down on a sunny weekday and had a wander around the shop indoor and out, and came up with some great ideas for our garden. The staff we spoke to were really friendly and helpful in giving us advice on pairing shrubs this season. We also took the time to stop in the pretty little garden cafe, (a bit of a haven from the road outside,) which had an impressive selection of treats and nibbles.

They have a massive selection of ornamental and fruit trees as well as roses. They also sell all the usual bedding plants, beautiful hanging baskets, pots, compost, garden ornaments and tools for the garden. Apparently a lot of their shrubs and plants are grown at Abercorn. I was told this by a member of staff who was most helpful and friendly and gave me tips about my soil and what I could and could not grow. There is a play area for children so they can enjoy themselves while you are free to look around.

There is no distancing lines for customers to follow and the signs that are up are hard to spot. Now it is tired and lacking care, all the more obvious from the COVID pandemic. If it wasn't for Swallow Aquatics, who's staff are excellent and really knowledgeable I wouldn't come here any more. At this time of year (Christmas) the first thing you come across is the Christmas light department this is a blacked out area full of fairy lights it is so pretty I could spend all day there. Outside as you might expect are the plants these are also well arranged with the current seasonal plants first then the herbs then the normal plants alphabetically. I was able to walk the dog around the garden centre with ease. I bought some wind twirlers which I enjoy watching in the garden. I also bought a gold finch attraction bird feeder. Golly gosh, the gold finch birds turned up the next day along with magpies. The plants are expensive but the quality is very good. The staff are really knowledgeable and friendly. I love the planters. There is something for everyone here. It is a great place for getting that special present. I like niknaks and this place fascinates me.

Unfortunatelyunless you are in the cafe at the exact specified time it is impossible to get anything at all to eat! breakfast runs untill 11.30.... lunch from 12 .turn up between these times and request somthing to eat and you are looked at as though mad! On the ocassions i have eaten by getting there at the right time, the food has taken ages to be served and is often luke warm or stone cold! They have excellent selection of bulbs which are reasonable in price. A good selction of gardening tools as well. The gifts are lovely, it is definately worth a browse to find something a little different as very good prices. They stock a wide selction of books for all ages and the children's books are lovely. They have clean toilets and are family friendly. Their is a little cafe there that sells lovely food. Be aware that breakfast is served till 1130am but food is not cooked again till midday. So time your visit for breakfast or lunch so not to be disappointed like we were! Their Christams displays are always lovely and they usually have a great Santa's grotto. They also stock fire works!
