All of the staff members give you their full attention when you are in their chair. I have recommended this place to all of my friends. While the haircut costs more than a typical one, it's worth every penny. I've never experienced a bad haircut from them which is a common thing that occurs in Bloomington if you go to cheaper places. Covid Note- they have hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes all around the shop. The staff and all guests were wearing masks. Strict cleaning protocols were clearly in place. You could learn who was having problems around town and who was visiting from out of town and where the catfish were biting. Those day are gone. Last time I had my hair "done" the woman that cut it tried to sell me some "product" when she finished the excellent razor cut. The beard trim was extra of course! After trimming my own beard this morning I decided to drive into town and try to get a hair cut. I called several salons and all offered me an appointment, sometimes a few days in the future. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted a barber pole and pulled into Fleener's. After a short wait while a local fireman got his son's hair cut I was perched in one of the two old Koken barber chairs. (They for sell for big money at antique stores) Hallie a very professional young barber who works with her father cut my hair. She has been cutting hair with her father for many years. The old man has been in business since 1973. They must be doing something right! She was nice to talk to and did a good job. The shop was clean and bright. They even had a big flat TV and a display case with old barber mugs, razors and other interesting stuff. They only take cash...so be prepared! However, she books way out so you have to get on her actual book. (Written) you must be vaccinated from Covid to come here as she has lost dear family members to Covid, and does not want to risk it. I found this very reasonable considering her story. She also usually requires masks. She has super fun selections for kiddos after their haircuts, including sucker whistles. Drove right past the shop today thinking it was in that strip mall where Cloverleaf South is. It's not, it's in the white colonial building just west of Henderson St. The shop entrance is on the East side of the building. I pulled up and through the open door was immediately greeted by Aaron, which made me feel right at home. (I have been getting my hair cut by my partner at home for 25 years, so I was a bit nervous and Aaron made me feel comfortable.) Marny is awesome. Great personality, super easy to talk to. She and Aaron are a good team. Marny listened to what I wanted, looked at the photos I brought of different hair cuts and gave me exactly what I wanted. I honestly haven't stopped smiling since I got this haircut. I love it. Super affordable too. $15.00 (before the tip) for a cut and eyebrow trim. Looking forward to a return trip.
