    Spring rolls
    Alice W.

This review is purely for the spring rolls. It's 3 for $9 and probably my favorite spring rolls ever, they have such a good flavor and a delicious crunch. There's lots of great restaurants in this shopping center so will usually stop by here for spring rolls while waiting for other restaurants.

We've been here so many times and have loved all the dishes. There is truly no dish that can go wrong unless you have a specific preference for certain meats or noodles/rice. A staple order would normally be: spring rolls (nem and bo bia are my favs). Luna cakes are honestly like little banh xeos in bite size form. We tried the banh hoi today and it was tasty. Close enough to something home cooked when you're missing family. We tried at least one new dish each time we're here. All the veggies are fresh, desserts and dessert drinks are always refreshing. Not too sweet. You can expect the mediocre average service and environment of most Asian restaurants. Although, most waiters are nice even if they don't speak much English and are always willing to help/answer questions. One complaint today is the host was rather inconsiderate of our baby stroller. It's a weekday late afternoon, while busy, not packed and many tables were open for seating. The host kept asking myself and my husband if the stroller was foldable. The first time he asked me, I let him know no issue folding it up to keep it away from the aisle. He then proceeded to ask my husband who answered the same thing. We get to a small booth and he proceeds to ask again if the stroller can be folded. This person spoke enough English to know we acknowledged his question so I'm not sure what was the matter with him. It honestly was a nightmare to try to squeeze ourselves with the folded stroller in the booth and then also putting the baby seat onto the freaking table?! Like what choice did we have. We ordered plenty of food and drinks, it was so sad how we were treated. When you have a baby and are trying to survive/have a nice meal, at least be aware not everyone at the restaurant will know how to make you feel comfortable. Otherwise we're always happy with the food and service.

3.5/5 Stars I think Brodard's quality has gone downhill a bit. We initially came for spring rolls to go, but decided to dine in and try some of their dishes since it has been years. We ordered a Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio and it was good but the portion size was SO SMALL for the price you're paying. We also got the curry seafood noodles and it was good but also on the smaller portion size. Unfortunately, I think it's not worth coming here for their entrees anymore. Just for their spring rolls.

Brodard absolutely lives up to the hype. The fried rice was one of the best I've had, perfectly seasoned with great texture, generous shrimp, and a balance of savory flavors that kept me going back for more. The real standout, though, was the spring rolls. Both the classic pork sausage rolls and duck rolls were easily 10/10. Fresh, packed with flavor, and paired with excellent dipping sauces, they're worth the visit alone. The menu is extensive, making it a great spot whether you're already a fan of Vietnamese cuisine or looking to explore it for the first time. The noodles were delicious as well, though the fried rice and rolls stole the show. A few tips: join the Yelp waitlist before arriving, as it gets very busy. Parking can be crowded, but the lot is large enough to usually find a spot. We were seated quickly, though dessert/take out lines were long. Service was limited due to how packed the restaurant was, and the atmosphere can feel a bit rushed during peak hours. That said, the food more than makes up for it. I'd happily come back for the spring rolls alone.

    Bo Bia Rolls

It was a very busy restaurant, there were about five parties waiting outside to be seated (all of which had 4+ people). There was a counter to the left that had several dessert options but it wasn't able to try them. They looked pretty and appetizing though. When we were seated it was fairly loud since there were so many other people and parties eating and talking. I wasn't bombarded with different smells of food and the restaurant had food air flow. I did wait quite a while to use the bathroom though since they being cleaned at the time. A line of about 7 women were waiting outside along with me. My boyfriend and I had ordered the Bo Bia Rolls (4 rolls). They came with a peanut dipping sauce which was decent. However my siblings in my party ordered what seemed like a similar set of rolls but with green onion sprigs and what seemed like fried meat inside. Their sauce pairing was delicious and addicting. We also ate the Shaken Beef which was flavorful. Be mindful for our party of six an automatic gratuity of 18% of the total (before taxes) was added onto the bill. It was still a good experience though as I really enjoyed the flavor of the food.

Brodard is a staple for Vietnamese food in the OC. They're most known for their nem nuong spring rolls, which always is a solid option. It's definitely Vietnamese parents approved. The other food is pretty good as well, but I don't think there's anything that particularly stands out above the rest. I most recently ordered the com tam suong, nem nuong spring rolls, and Vietnamese coffee. All the food came out really quickly--I was actually shocked at how fast everything came out. The pork chop was cooked perfectly, and the dish as a whole was good. Besides the wait for a table (which was about 20 minutes on a Friday during lunch for 6 people), everything was quick and efficient. Keep in mind that this place is more traditional Vietnamese restaurant service, so it's very straightforward vs. overly accommodating, but that's when you know the food is gonna be good.

I've been to Vietnam. Vietnamese people ask me if the Vietnamese food is better in Vietnam than in the U.S. I tell them no, because Brodard's is in America. In fact, it's my favorite Vietnamese restaurant on Planet Earth. Why is Brodard's the best? They got the best spring rolls especially the nem nuong. What makes these rolls better than any other restaurant? You just have to try it. I promise you it's the best in the world. It's so good, you have to get them when you dine in and more for take out. Once again, best Vietnamese restaurant in the world.

I've been coming to Brodard since the OG location and I've never lived in OC. This day, I drove almost an hour to have my fave Grilled Shrimp Spring Rolls. What's so unique is the crunchy lumpia wrapper that they put in there and the dipping sauce! The best I've ever had and can't find anything close, anywhere! I also had the Luna Rice Cake with shrimp. Comes with lots of fresh herbs! The rice cakes themselves were a bit bland, but was tasty when you dipped it in the fish sauce. Of course, I had to get some spring rolls togo! Highly recommend for traditional Vietnamese food. They are always busy, so prepare to wait. Well worth it! They also have a bar area. The Lychee Sakatini was yummy.

    Jenny L.

Took a special date here for dinner, introducing her to the culinary world of Vietnamese cuisine. The spring rolls are great start followed by the banh xeo. We also got the plum soda, which is a salty sweet soda from dehydrated plums. We also got the com tam dish. Everything is done well here. It's a great introductory to Vietnam Vietnamese food since everything is a hit! There's plenty of parking and the service is fast and very attentive. The Yelp weight stated 30 minutes, but the table was ready for us in 15. They're the same owners as bamboo bistro in Newport I learned.

Delicious food and quick service. The chicken was fried very well and wasn't over seasoned. The beef was also tender and flavorful

Grilled Pork Spring Rolls (Nem Nướng Cuốn)
    Lauren D.

Stick with the popular Grilled Pork Spring Rolls (Nem Nướng Cuốn). Although the restaurant has a huge range of options to choose from, they didn't meet our expectations and tasted better at other places. Just order their popular dishes, or else you'll just be disappointed. Mì Quảng is easily my favorite Vietnamese dish, and it didn't taste as good as I thought it would. Their grilled pork spring rolls were tasty, but that's what is expected of them. My sister noticed that they also sold boba drinks and was pleasantly surprised by the decent taste and quality. * Nem Nướng Cuốn: 10/10 - amazing sauce and wonton skin * Mì Quảng: 6/10 - broth was mediocre and no shredded meat * Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang: 7/10 - decent but nothing mind-blowing * Passion Fruit Tea with Mini Boba: 9/10 - surprisingly tasty * Lychee Tea with Boba: 8/10 - refreshing The workers were very assertive, and we didn't have much trouble trying to grab their attention. A huge downside that we noticed this time was how dark the restaurant was. Although we went just a couple of hours right after opening, the restaurant barely has any light and heavily relies on natural sunlight through the windows. Depending on where you're seated in the restaurant, it can get pretty tough reading the menu and taking photos. We were seated at a booth that was on a platform, and my mom tripped because of the dim lighting. Not terrible, but probably won't come back for a while.

    Helen N.

Always gotta get the spring rolls. Bo luc lac w/ garlic noodles was good. It comes with mushrooms instead of bell pepper which is a bonus for me. Next time I'm in, I'll try the red rice. Fish basil rice was super yummy & the sauce was very good. Bun thit nuong was also super yummy Service was very attentive and made sure I was adequately hydrated.

We've been coming here for many years and it's still so busy. We come when I'm craving for their Nem Nuong Cuon. Add your named to the Waitlist early, wait can be up to an hour. The restaurant is very spacious and can accommodate huge groups. They have a very wide selection of Vietnamese food. I always like to try something new each time I come. This time I had the chicken curry and it was very good. The curry was very flavorful and wished there was more curry because my bread absorbed most of it. Definitely a restaurant we frequent.

Does the sauce for the spring roll have peanut?

    Yes it does

Will they be opened on Christmas day (25th) for 2023. Do they take reservations? Thanks all.

Yes,they take reservations. I don't know about Christmas Day, but it would be a delightful place to go!

How long do the pork and shrimp rolls last for? Can I get them a day in advance for a party or will it not taste good overnight?

The rice paper gets hard and dried out but maybe if you put a moist towel over the tray it will help. I'd call the restaurant and ask to be sure but I wouldn't recommend it. And the sauce is served warm.

    Is this place ayce?

    No.

As of July 17 2022 does brodard have outdoor dining?

Unfortunately they do not. But because of the location it's best that they don't. You would be overlooking a Parking Lot.

Pet friendly ? Do you allow pet inside the establishment? Small breed

    No. So glad they don't.

Is Brodard still offering outdoor dining?

I didn't see any outside. They are busy enough with inside tables. 🙂

Does their spring roll sauce have peanuts in it?

    Yes.

Is there still outdoor dining? I called and the person who picked up seemed confused?

    Nope.

    Do they have outside dining?

    Nope

    Do you have gift certificates?

Yes. I received one for my birthday. Lunch was great.

If you had only two choices only, which spring rolls are a must try?

Definitely try the Grilled Pork Spring Rolls - Nem Nuớng Cuốn, with their warm house special sauce!

How much is a catering tray for 50 rolls of nem nuong rolls?

They're $2.25 per roll, doesn't matter if you order in bulk. So it'll be $112.50

    Does business accept EBT card?

    Nope

My kids have peanut allergies. How safe would it be for them to eat egg roll/vermcelli if I tell the staff we have a peanut allergy (worried about cross contamination)?

They use peanut in a lot of their dishes and sauces. Very easy to have cross contamination. For a very busy restaurant with a lot of workers running around hectically, no matter how careful they try to be, mistakes can happen. Depending on how… Read more

Is it still possible to buy the nem nuong separately (and frozen)?

Yes. They sell them a la carte and with the dipping sauce. You can freeze them yourself, but they are best when fresh.

Do they accept cash or is it cashless during the pandemic?

They accept both cash and card and even online payment.

Do their spring roll dipping sauce contain any kind of meat?

No it's a peanut based sauce

Now the restaurants are allowed indoor dining, do they still keep the tents for outdoor dining?

Yes they had the tents for outdoor dining.

Is the Brodard gift card redeemable for online orders? I do not see an option for it on the website.

And, I didn't get it today, but getting a fancy pour-over at this spot really hits. If you coffee sweats like the fun stuff, you'll have plenty of that here! If you're looking for both fun coffee and great day, no doubt you should check out Re Ca Phe!

Small coffee shop, but love the aesthetic! I wouldn't say it's a great place to study, but it's a…read morenice spot for you to chat with friends here. I ordered the black sesame latte and my bf got the vietnamese coffee. I like how they also 'warn' you about the size, because the size cups are tiny looool The vietnamese coffee especially is very tiny. Despite the size, I know the coffee is gonna hit hard if you're paying for a price of a regular size cup. The coffee is also very dark so you know it's gonna be very strong. I mainly wanted to try the black sesame latte and yep it was pretty good! The cream was veryyy nice and creamy. It definitely is very strong coffee because usually when I have extremely strong coffee, I start to sweat and get a headache, so yes they serve very strong coffee here. Don't let the size fool you. Small but mighty. Something you should also sip than chug. Overall, the coffee is good, but feel like it was just a one time try for me. I do enjoy a bigger size cup cause I feel its more worth it, even if the caffeine hit is as worth, I do enjoy more of the volume and it could be less concentrated. I respect it though! Cashier was nice and friendly.
