This is my new favorite home away from home. Our server (blonde in her early 50's?) instantly welcomed us in the warmest way and I knew instantly I wanted to give her a great tip. She tended to our needs, often anticipating what we wanted before we did, with a genuine spirit. Our food came quickly, hit the spot, and arrived exactly as ordered. Highly recommend the chicken and waffle! I'm bot usually much of a fan of chicken strips and prefer the old school freshly fried chicken piece but I have to say that these strips were top quality, excellent batter and hot and fresh. We came here during brunch and it wasn't busy which was nice to be sat right away on the rooftop. We got to enjoy the nice weather and the skillet was a large portion. My boyfriend and I decided to get lunch at this chain restaurant when we were looking around to eat something. We thought it would be very packed on Saturday noon in Pacific Beach but surprisingly, it wasn't! The location that we went to is located next to Sinclair gas station and diagonal of Citi Bank on Garnet Ave. There is a free open parking lot in the back of the restaurant in the side street. There's also a sign for additional parking if that lot was full. Being located in PB and finding parking could be a huge headache, so it was great to see that they offered free parking to customers. My boyfriend and I started off with a drink. We go their Iced Matcha which was very good, just a tad too sweet for my liking, but I had forgotten to request for it to be less sweet. The quality of the drink was very nice. I got the Machaca with flour tortilla. The portions were huge! I was very appreciative of the huge portion for the amount I was paying. I had to ask if the tortillas came with the entree as my previous visit at another location had an extra charge when the server didn't mention it. That previous server made it seem like the tortillas came with the meal! Luckily, the Machaca came with the tortillas. I thought the machaca was lacking in flavor. It was kind of bland to me, lacking a bit of umami or salt. The condiments they had on the table were only hot sauce, ketchup, and tabasco which didn't seem fitting to me at the time. My boyfriend got their Chicken & Waffle Benedict which was amazing! Sooooo much flavor! The hollandaise sauce with the poached eggs and waffles made such an amazing combination. The chicken was seasoned and fried very well. It was very tender and moist! I was kind of worried it would be dry because of how tiny the chicken looked (looked almost like a fried fish). Overall, I thought the food was relatively good. The Chicken & Waffles Benedict really surprised us both. The Machaca could definitely be better in my opinion. So far, the benedicts at this chain restaurant have been winning our hearts. So maybe next time, I should just get a benedict as well. read more

Talk about a huge menu, so many choices. Really hard to choose and know that the portions are going to be generous. We went on a Monday morning and there was no crowd, seated right away and the server was so nice and pleasant. Didn't even blink when she had to come back several times because we were visiting and not looking at the menu. I had the Mom omelette which had lots of veggies and they happily didn't add the spinach which I totally don't like in eggs. Choice of sides which is several types of potatoes I chose hash browns which were delicious. The outside were crispy and the inside nice and soft. Anytime my boyfriend or I had friends visiting San Diego, Broken Yolk Cafe always came up as a suggestion. In the past, there wasn't much for me to eat. However, Broken Yolk seems to have recently added a few vegan options to their Healthy Side Up menu! One of them being the Spicy Vegan Breakfast Bowl. The base of the bowl is a heaping portion of homefries with JUST Egg™, spinach, mushroom, onion, green and red bell pepper, and plant based BEYOND SAUSAGE® hot Italian link topped with avocado and sriracha. And wow! It was amazing! In addition to the food itself, service was pretty quick, and the hostess and waitresses were all very nice! Thanks to the Pacific Beast Fest that took place last week I was able to finally get the Broken Yolk Cafe. I have to admit that is not the type of place I would just naturally crave and the only reason I went was because I was the lucky winner of a $18 entree gift card. As I like to maximize my freebies, I ordered something that would really worth the money (eggs with something I don't think so). So I ordered the avocado toast with smoked salmon and it was large, abundant avocado and dish and freshly made. Delicious! I also ordered a pumpkin spice latte and it was perfect and beautiful. My husband was very excited to try this place. We got a table in their outdoor area. The ambiance was very SoCal themed and neat. I got the Greek omelette and the pomegranate mimosa. My omelette was cooked perfectly and was packed with flavor. I was surprised by the quantity of food. I also got a side of rice and beans. The dish came with salsa, which enhanced the flavors of the overall dish. I was surprised by how tasty and potent the mimosa was. Our server did a great job. Breakfasts at restaurants can be rough for a vegan. The Broken Yolk has several good, protein-rich options featuring fake scrambled eggs and vegan sausage. The waitress was friendly and efficient and got the order right without a fuss The breakfast I chose was good (though, to be honest, well short of great). It had vegan "egg" and potato and sausage and, I think, red pepper. It was at least two big meals, which I appreciated, but it lacked flavor. Still, I would have been willing to make it a regular spot, but my date (who had a conventional omelet) couldn't get past how weak the coffee was. It was, in fact, pretty bad. Maybe we'll give it another try some day, but if we don't, I don't think I'll miss it. read more
