The perimeter plots are reserved for members, but there is also a volunteer-led community gardening area in the center where volunteers work together to grow an impressive variety of flowers, plants, fruits, and vegetables. What makes this place special is not just the beautiful gardens, but the sense of community. It's a peaceful oasis in the middle of the neighborhood and a wonderful place to relax, take a stroll, and admire all of the hard work that goes into maintaining it. If you're interested in getting involved, the garden typically hosts volunteer days once or twice a week and is always happy to welcome new volunteers. (Circa 1790 -1810) Colonel Remsen commanded the New York regiment during the Revolutionary War in the Battle of Long Island fighting valiantly with six other Remsen family members who were commanding officers as well. Unfortunately, many of the headstones were stolen or vandalized post war, but during 1980, local American Legion and other civic groups erected a flag pole and made it a New York City landmark. The property is now owned and maintained by the New York Parks Department. As a Son of the American Revolution, I feel honored to have a piece of Revolutionary War so close to home.

Although I consider myself a history buff of my hometown, Forest Hills, I had no idea this place existed. I lived several blocks from this spot for three years and missed it. This cemetery has been identified as the burial ground for the Remsen family, and dates back to the late 1700s. As noted on the sign, the oldest grave is for Col. Jeromus Remsen who fought on behalf of the the Kings and Queens Militia in the Battle of Long Island in the Revolutionary War, as were several other family members who are buried here as part of a family plot. There are other older stones here but the inscriptions have long since worn away. At some point, a flagpole and two American WWI doughboy statues were added in honor of other veterans. According to one of the signs, the NYDAR and other local American Legion chapters helped maintain the park over the years. It was given NYC landmark status in 1981 and is partially maintained by the city. We saw a volunteer picking up garbage and tending to the garden areas. If you are visiting the Trader Joe's or Home Depot on Metropolitan Ave and are a fan of history, leave your car in the lot and walk two blocks to the Remsen Park.

I went there on a Saturday and it was the same quiet, peaceful place it's always been. You can get so much work (or studying) done there, especially with the free and speedy wifi. They have comfortable chairs, outlets for your electronics, and clean bathrooms. They also have a separate children's room. And the view is nice also, and it's completely free! This is the kind of place I'd give a big donation to if I were in the position to do so, but they do have a donation jar, which I will make sure to add to next time.

Came here for a Fred again concert back in January. Never heard of this venue but it was a cool…read morevenue with the sheet covering the audience and especially when it changed colors. They had lockers and porta potties. The lockers did sell out though for this sold out show so book them ahead if you can. It's pretty much an open area and there was no pyro but still fun for the show. The sound was booming so bring some earplugs.
