Agreed, this place is ridiculous. Even if everything inside was one pound, as is advertised by the…read moregiant signs, it would still constitute an absolute rip off. This shop will suit you if: (i) You want a 'designer' watch that weighs less than a piece of paper and doesn't tell the time. (ii) You want to see all the worst films ever made in one big pile with no organizing nonsense such as alphabetizing or chronologizing principles. (iii) You are just too calm and want to get stressed out fast. If you don't fit this criteria (you'd be surprised how busy this establishment is) then stay away. Perhaps it would do for a joke present or two, but little else.

This shop annoys me because:…read more 1) It always has 'closing down' signs, but never actually closes 2) It advertises using huge '£1' signs in the window, but hardly anything in there is actually £1 3) It blares horrible loud music out onto Market Street The best deal I spotted in there was a Rubix Cube for £1, but apart from that you can buy awful fluorescent knitwear, dodgy watches, rubbish DVDs, ugly chinaware and snuggle blankets. The signs outside say proclaim that it is going out of business, so hopefully the shop will turn into something useful or cool, but I have a feeling it will remain a terrible cheap shop for years to come. If you want something decent for a quid, then you'd be better off heading to Pound Empire or Quality Save.

In fact if you're hosting a party and you stumble in here, you're guaranteed to be in kid in a candyshop mode big time! 24 cans of Pepsi Max for a fiver? No problem! Fresh fruit? No problem! You could probably do a month's worth of shopping in daylight robbery like prices. What's more, if you're a raging foodie like me and LOVE eastern cuisine, the place is choc-a-bloc with herbs and spices you won't find anywhere else. Believe me, I've tried! Much like Tesco, they also have a huge frozen food/ refrigerated section where you can buy everything from all sorts of fish and meat to cakes and ice cream (LOTS of ice cream!) My fav section is the savoury and sweet section where they have a huge selection of different types of biscuits and snacks that'll make you the envy of all your friends at a dinner party! All in all if you love cooking (especially Asian cuisine) and hosting, this place is a God send! The variety of herbs and spices on sale will set your imagination and saliva glands racing!

Walkden Town Centre (formerly known as The Ellesmere Centre, but many places still use the outdated…read morename, probably down to habits) is the main shopping centre serving Walkden town centre, while it isn't the largest of shopping centres, it does have the largest Tesco Extra store in the UK, this does take up the big bulk of the shopping centre, at least the indoor part anyway. I think the name change was to add the outdoor part of the shopping centre too. There is a lot of car parking, the indoor area is unusual in the sense that instead of escalators, they use travellators, I much prefer these as they are more accessible for all, and look better too. Public transport links to the centre are OK, I do find it annoying that the 36 and 37 buses which are both on the Manchester to Bolton route, which calls here, actually call at different stands at different ends of the shopping centre, I do think having a small bus station would be easier, as it means having to go to one specific bus stop, rather than being able to wait at the same stop for multiple services. Stores located here include Marks and Spencer, Aldi, Poundland, Pets at Home and Boots, there is also a small number of banks and a Post Office. Food retailers located here include Subway, Nando's and Domino's. 3* - Not too bad, it is nice for a small town like Walkden, the lower floor on the inside part of the mall does seem to be pretty empty as many retailers have moved to the outside retail park area or the main road.

Tesco was completely rebuilt and revamped - though it does feel very clinical and a bit like the Hive out of resident evil at night... It's already attracted new custom - Costa Coffee - which is great! They seem to be doing fairly well too. There are always people inside and hopefully this will inspire more custom from other businesses too. The banks have moved and now have very shiny new spaces; HSBC, Lloyds, Halifax, Santander. The market hall is also revamped with a bigger and better area. There's a good selection of stalls from handbags, to a card shop, to a clothes shop, to a fancy dress shop, to a Polish food stall, to a pet items stall AND best of all.... the old school sweet shop! However, it does cost 10p or 20p to go to the toilet but they are well looked after! As mentioned, being an anchor store for the intu Trafford Centre, this branch of Debenhams is quite large, with a fragrance hall as well as a selection of both male and female clothing over the two floors. I'd also like to comment, as this is such a large store in such a busy location, I'm surprised it has only received 15 reviews, most of which being in 2009 and the most recent being in 2011, I'm not going to say all the things that have happened since then, including Gary Lineker being forced to present Match Of The Day in his underpants, following Leicester City's Premier League win, previously dubbed impossible. Moving on to my original review, this is quite a nice store, it is quite large and does look quite modern, but as you go into it, it sadly feels less modern, albeit it does have quite a nice, cool staircase towards the end of the store. Sadly, most of the clothes here just seemed poor quality, and honestly look dreadful, which proves it isn't the most fashionable place to buy clothes, unless you like to buy things which look like curtains and towels. The staff here didn't seem too friendly, they just seemed average. Overall, this store is okay, it is nothing more than that but I sadly feel it hasn't done enough to earn three stars, with one of the only positives being the size and location of the store.

You'll be heading down some escalators when you come in to find it. There's loads of famous fashion names on offer, like Levi, Rip Curl and many others. It's always worth a visit as well as you sometimes find things cheaper here than in the labels' own shops. One thing I would say is that it's really difficult to find the escalator to get back up out of the basement floor! I ended up wondering around for five minutes trying to find the bloody thing!
