Nets v OKC on Sunday, 1/15/2023

The Brooklyn Nets Kids Dance Team is super cute. I enjoyed watching their performance on the break during the game vs OKC. Dance moves are on point. Nice costumes too.

The Brooklyn Nets are really bad right now, so bad you can probably get day of the game tickets on Stub hub for $7 or 8 bucks. Sad situation indeed but it is a reality. The team owns the worst record in the league right now. I mean the Knicks are not doing much better but the future looks better. The New Jersey Nets went to two NBA finals under Jason Kidd and Kenyon Martin playing amazing basketball. This Brooklyn experiment is great for the city with initially alot of excitement in NYC, now there are two official new york teams no matter what. Kenny Atkinson the current Nets coach seems like a nice guy but is in way over his head , the team is garbage. Jeremy Lin is one of top free agent signings but has not played a significant role because he has just been hurting alot. Brook Lopez is only player with a great amount of value but he is also 1 or two more foot injuries away from being useless. I think former GM Billy King is one of the stupidest people on the planet. The Celtics completely took advantage in that trade, three first round picks in the deal and a right to swop for 2017 (hello) and they took some of Nets junky players but wow three first round picks. The Garnett and Pierce experience only had one Brooklyn season and it was mildly successful. I think with a record like 9 wins and 44 losses or so you would think the end of season brings excitement with a lottery top 3 pick hopefully but nope that goes straight to Boston Celtics. I tell you i have been to a few Brooklyn Nets games this season but I was cheering for the other team like December 5th against Washington Wizards, The nets were up by 28 in 4th quarter, but didn't you know they would blow that lead. It was crazy like a video game, three point barrage. I am just gonna say Brook Lopez can be traded for a future first round pick and maybe Jimmy Butler can be acquired for a true rebuild of this team. Start from the bottom, 2021 might be the start of their brilliance. http://www.nba.com/nets/news/nets-acquire-nba-champions-kevin-garnett-paul-pierce-and-jason-terry - This was proof of Billy King, former GM stupid moves and I think he signed Andrea Bargnani of all people to a contract and of course he played like garbage.

The location is very convenient, right next to the subway and not far from Manhattan. The production was great, and most seats in the venue seem to offer a good view of the stage along with clear sound. Even from the upper bowl, we could still see the visuals well and feel the bass from the speakers. I'd imagine the floor is the best place to experience a show here, but overall there really aren't many bad seats in the house. The water fountains and bathrooms were clean and well maintained. There was also a strong security presence throughout the venue, so unfortunately sneaking into better sections wasn't really an option. The arena is also very accessible, with escalators and elevators available on every level. Overall, a solid venue for concerts and live events.

The New York Islanders (aka the Isles) are a professional ice hockey team based in Elmont, New York. The Islanders compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference, and play their home games at UBS Arena. The Islanders are one of three NHL franchises in the New York metropolitan area, along with the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers, and their fanbase resides primarily on Long Island. The Islanders won four consecutive Stanley Cup championships between 1980 and 1983, the seventh of eight dynasties recognized by the NHL in its history. Their 19 consecutive playoff series wins between 1980 and 1984 is a feat that remains unparalleled in the history of professional sports. They are the last team in any major professional North American sport to win four consecutive championships, and to date the last NHL team to win more than two consecutive Stanley Cup championships. All I can say is I do not understand the low Stars. I saw a documentary about this team on Television and I was enthralled by the spirit and passion in addition to heartbreaking ups and downs of this team. There's a lot of emotion around this team and I hope their fans hold strong!

The Isles went to five straight Stanley Cup Finals from 1980 to 1984 and won four straight championships from 1980 to 1983. In terms of total number of Cups won (4), the Islanders rank in the league's top nine all time. Teams like the New Jersey Devils and the recent back-to-back 2020-2021 champs, the Tampa Bay Lightning, with three titles each, are knocking on the Isles' door. Hall-of-fame coach Al Arbour led the Islanders during those record-setting seasons in the 80s. No US-based NHL team has won as many consecutive Stanley Cups as Arbour's Islanders. No team in any of the North American major professional sports leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL) has won 19 consecutive playoff series nor four consecutive championships since the 1979-1984 Islanders. It was a historic stretch. Arbour coached many guys who would end up in the hall of fame: team captain and defenseman Denis Potvin, right-winger Mike Bossy, goalie Billy Smith, center Bryan Trottier, and the late left-winger Clark Gillies. These core players are each considered among the best in hockey history and, along with center Butch Goring, won four championships together. After winning the Hart Memorial Trophy (NHL MVP) in 1979, Trottier would go on to win the Conn Smythe Trophy (Stanley Cup Playoffs MVP) in 1980. Goring, Bossy, and Smith won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1981, 1982, and 1983, respectively. Potvin, Bossy, Trottier, and Gillies were all drafted by the Islanders. Potvin in 1973 (1st overall pick), Gillies and Trottier in 1974 (4th and 22nd, respectively), and Bossy in 1977 (15th). Coincidentally, both Goring (1969) and Smith (1970) were drafted by the Los Angeles Kings. Goring now does TV color commentary for the Islanders. Trottier is the only player in franchise history to win the Hart Trophy. After playoff droughts in both the 90s and 2000s, things are starting to look up again for the Isles. Center Mathew Barzal, who was drafted by the Islanders with the 16th overall pick in 2015, won the Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year) for the 2017-18 season. He became the first Islander to win the trophy since Bryan Berard won it in 1997. Potvin (1974), Trottier (1976), and Bossy (1978) won the trophy as well. Now a two-time All-Star, Barzal has helped lead the Islanders to three straight playoff appearances in the last three seasons. The team advanced to the 2020 Eastern Conference Finals against the eventual Stanley Cup champion Lightning and the 2021 Stanley Cup semifinals again against the eventual champion Lightning (2021 had a unique playoff format due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

We thought this club would make her love sports more but it has instead turned her off Soccer. On their FIRST class, they were told to tap and and kick the their own ball while chasing the coach around who went around in circles and zig zagged around. Not only were they supposed to chase the coach, while keeping their eye on the ball and kick the ball, they were also supposed to each grab a jersey off his waist. Keep in mind that these are 3-4 year olds and imagine the chaos. The classes are far more advanced and is not at all tailor made for 3-4 yr old kids. A couple of parents commented to the coach that the kids just can't follow this class and they were dismissed, saying that "well, SOME kids get it". True- some kids who were 4 did get it but it was definitely not designed for this age group. Whoever wrote the curriculum does not have kids and doesn't understand what their cognitive skills are at this age. They were given numbers to memorize at one point then they were split into groups so they can go after the ball when their number is called. Sounds fair but honestly the kids didn't even remember their number by the time they walked to separate sides. It was just chaos. I'm sad we even bothered because now our daughter refuses to play soccer. At all. She now hates it.

On Yelp, three stars means "OK" which is what I think about the New York Red Bulls. They've been…read moreOK. The Red Bulls are one of the 10 original teams to begin Major League Soccer (MLS) play in 1996. In 25 complete seasons, the Red Bulls have zero MLS Cup appearances. However, they have won the Supporters' Shield three times, one shy of the current league record co-held by DC United and LA Galaxy (four shields each). All three of the Red Bulls shields were won in the previous decade: 2013 (59 points), 2015 (60), and 2018 (71). So I guess you can say things have been trending up since 1996. The Red Bulls were at the top of the MLS standings at the conclusion of the 2018 regular season. They were the first-seed in the Eastern Conference. Unfortunately for New York/New Jersey, the Red Bulls lost to the eventual MLS Cup champions that year, Atlanta United FC, in the Conference Finals, 3-1. Atlanta was able to win the MLS Cup in just the team's second year of existence while after two-and-a-half decades, the Red Bulls are still searching for their first MLS Cup appearance. English forward Bradley Wright-Phillips played for the Red Bulls during the 2018 campaign. He was with the team from 2013 to 2019, appearing in 195 games, the most for any club in his career. For five straight seasons (2014-2018), Wright-Phillips was the team's top scorer. He holds team records in both goals scored in a single season (27 in 2014) and all time (125; second place is held by Juan Pablo Angel with less than half: 62). Since 2010, the Red Bulls' home has been "The Fortress," Red Bull Arena, in Harrison, New Jersey. Also referred to as the "Cathedral of American Soccer," Red Bull Arena has a seating capacity of 25,000, making it one of the bigger venues in MLS. It's not among the biggest, though, as at least five other venues have a capacity of 30,000 or higher. The New York Red Bulls were originally known as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars. It wasn't until Red Bull, the energy drink company, purchased the team in 2006 when the team's name was changed to Red Bull New York (a.k.a. New York Red Bulls).

This is the original MLS team that I was fanatical about, and have been following for many years. Of course in my day they were the Metrostars, but my day is no longer the day - however I still I'm a fan and I still root for them a lot, and especially since they moved into this amazing Stadium, I'm kind of jealous because I didn't get to be a fan in these days, just in those days. Of course the stadium is actually not in New York City and not even near it so they really should be the Jersey team because this is the heart of Latin New Jersey. Pretty much right across the river from Newark. It's beautiful and amazing and I'm a huge fan of a team still to this day. I just wish they would have put some titles on the board to match how amazing they were in so many different seasons. They've been nothing but great for the league and especially in the Thierry Henry days and the Bradley Wright-Phillips days - it's been nothing but awesome for this team. But no championships.
