This library is located in park slope section of Brooklyn its very modern and I love the modest art work architect its has that wooden frame inside and i love it ,there have the Hewlett Packard ( HP) computers ( similar to : Apple, Acer, Dell, Gateway, Lenovo, Panasanoic, Samsung Toshiba ,-Computers company's ) .It's very cool laid back here in this library its similar to the other Brooklyn public library i go to on Grand army plaza & Flatbush avenue ( Main branch),(Flatbush branch) on Linden Blvd & Flatbush avenue or (Crown Heights branch ) on New York Avenue & East New York avenue . This library is definitely on the smaller side compared to others I've visited. It has a few large tables for working, which is nice in theory--but the limited space makes it feel a bit cramped. You're seated pretty close to others, and it can get distracting. I've avoided using the public computers because, well... let's just say the ambiance isn't ideal--between loud coughing fits and the occasional old man fully snoring, it's not exactly the vibe for focused work. There's a children's section immediately to the right of the entrance with tables, a rug, and a few computers for the little ones. It's thoughtfully set up, but again--space is the issue. Everything feels tight and crowded, which is surprising (and honestly disappointing) given how large and family-heavy the Park Slope neighborhood is. It works in a pinch, but it's not the kind of library you linger in for long. read more

I've been to this library several times and had a great experience. There's outlets surrounding your work station/area for convenience. The staff is friendly and patient when it comes to helping people, especially with computer assistance. I've spent hours here and was able to successfully get work done. Although I recently found a library branch that I prefer rather than this one, I can see myself returning here from time to time in the future. read more

Today, one of the male staff members threatened to kick me out of the library if he saw me tutoring my 8 year old daughter in the "Teen Zone" area of the mezzanine area. This is a public space that should be open to the public when not in use by teenagers. All of the tables were unoccupied at the time. Clearly, the Park Slope teen population has other places to be after school. The Park Slope Library is not it. This branch prefers to promote unpopular programs for optics sake rather than meeting the needs of the community. I will be taking a break from visiting this branch. It was a gem in the 80s, but has become a loud "daycare" with few options to work in a quiet space when the reservation meeting room is not available. read more

On top of that you have the homeless and mentally disabled people causing a disturbance. people are constantly on their phones. Kathy from this Public Library was very helpful in every way possible! I was there about a week ago to get a new Library Card. I was greeted and helped right away at the desk. space is very small. me (20) and my friend (19) were asked to leave the upstairs area around 3pm on a monday. they said the upstairs section is for teens only after 2:30 on weekdays, which is fine and great. however, we went downstairs and there wasn't a single seat available, so we asked the ladies at the front if we could go back upstairs and sit because there wasn't any teens upstairs. they said no and they need to be firm because there can't be any adults up there??? we're 20 and 19, not 45. anyway we had to leave the library, maybe not the best policy to implement if you don't have enough seating for others. read more

The library near my apartment is closed due to elevated rates of COVID. I had to make the trek here to return a few books. They only allow one person at a time. They only had an officer in the lobby but, no library staff to answer any questions or for assistance. The officer was friendly and tried to help but, he didn't know the answer and he wasn't able to find anyone to help. The staff here is still garbage. They do not want to help people. My library card was saying user not found, and they kept asking me if I had a NYP card even though I was showing them my Brooklyn card and they said there was nothing they could do despite me having the card and being logged into my account on the phone. It contains a children's section in the front and a separate stroller area. I can imagine with a room full of children it can become loud, rowdy, disorganized and running amok. Tables are equipped with electric outlets for tablets, laptops and tech gadgets. I came here for a poetry open-mic reading which was held in the basement in a private room. The staff is informative to direct me to the location of the event. The basement area contains a raised stage equipped with a functioning microphone of speakers to project the audibility and a podium. The windows of this basement room was blocked with colorful rolled-up yoga mats. Various events and activities are held in this library. Bookmarks are available to the public which also serve as a business card listing Brooklyn Public Library's branch locations. This Park Slope branch is very accessible via the F train at 7th Avenue and within mere walking distance to 6th Avenue at 9th Street. read more

I hope the right person reads this and steps up to help correct the hole in the system here at this library. Every New Yorker should have access to local educational materials and every human deserves to be treated with respect - now more than ever. I cannot express the extent of sadness coming here brought me through the clear demonstration of racism I experienced. I was racially discriminated against (twice) today by the officer pictured. The first visit: she demanded and enforced that I remove my face mask to speak to her. Then, she sent me away and said to come back when I had an approved library card (I did that and returned). On my second visit, the same officer *again* aggressively targeted me (and only me) out of a line of all white people. She *again* told me I couldn't enter (before hearing why I was there). I was the only individual she pressed to give an explanation of my visit. No one else received even a glance from her. When I told her I was coming in person because of an email I received specifying to come in person to provide additional documents for my card / to do a book pickup she continued to refuse entry until she became frustrated and said "live your life, there aren't any employees working inside. The library is empty." However, there were indeed two employees on duty that were able to help give an answer to my question, but the officer walked in after me (she didn't do this when any of the white patrons) and viciously screamed "no one is going to help you! you're holding up the line. you need to leave. they don't want to help you." Then she asked the employees "are you going to help her?" They said no and stopped talking before I could get all of the info they had started to give me. I was inside less than 5 minutes. When I started to walk out, I politely tried to ask the officer a question - her reaction: she turned her head to the wall and pretended not to hear me while she side-eyed me. This whole experience is really disheartening because access to books is supposed to be available to the "community" through this library, but there is prejudice against who is being allowed to access the books and racial profiling against who can enter to do a pick up or even get help to set up a library card. read more

Been recently using the library as I don't have space to store any new books. Registered online and came here to get the card. Not sure about the bad service here I have always had a good reception. The lady at the front desk quickly made my card. They also helped me check out my first book from there. Seems like a well run library with a lot of programs targeted around kids. Place hold on books online and once available can pick it up in 7 days which is convenient. Also like it that they are open on Saturdays. Overall a nice and free amenity which all book lovers should make use of. read more

I give this place two stars because its absolutely beautiful. It has two adjacent fireplaces, plenty of sitting room, etc. It's really quite quaint with high ceilings, what's not to like about this place? I'll tell you why. All of the screaming and crying kids. It's a f#@$%ing daycare not a library. If you want to come and work, well its like working in open office seating. But with really loud kids. No wonder its kind of empty. I'd much rather come here to research and work but I just soon as go to the main branch in grand army. it's probably 20x the size but any kind of talking (or screaming or crying) is frowned upon. It's looks small, but is deceptively big, although it's basically one big open space, so it gets loud. I've tried to sit and work here once or twice, but it's not ideal, and for both the space and the hours I'd probably head to Grand Army for a place to work. The selection here isn't gray, particularly of audiobooks, but it's a nice community space and it's great to have a branch right in the middle of Park Slope where one can pick up hold items. The library I'm general is decent about holds and delivery, although sometimes they'll let something sit in your hold list for months or maybe forever without telling you that they don't have it or the people at the branch where it is are permanently derelict, but that's not the fault of this branch. The staff are mostly friendly and helpful, although some of them have a bizarre amount of trouble understanding the spelling of a name to pull digital hold items. And there's free internet, so all the tourists and single-time visit trolls ought to like it, I don't know why the average review is so low. Oh, I haven't been, but they seem to have a bunch of community events, too. read more

I use this library often, but mainly to pick up books or DVDs and return them. The renovation has made the place bright and airy, but much of the space is devoted to the Children's section and the front part of the library is often packed with strollers. Half of the adult area has computers which get a lot of use. The remaining tables are often full, so I don't often get to write or work at this branch. The staff are helpful though often kept busy. Since the library is closed on Sundays and often opens at 10 and closes at 6. I end up going to the Central Library or the Sunset Park library to return books and dvds - I wish that they had a book drop at the Park Slope branch. read more

Helpful employees and picking up loans has never been a problem. Saturdays are a little crazy with the PSMs and strollers but since it's a small collection, browsing won't take long anyway. I wish they had longer hours; I've often tried to stop on my way home from work on days they're open until 8, they're shooing people out the door at 7:30. Most unhelpful staff and/or policies. I checked the online status of my library materials and saw that there was a book still listed under my Checked Out items that I had already returned. I called up my branch, Park Slope, and spoke to a man who told me that I would have to come into the branch so they could put a search on the book. When I asked him why I couldn't do this over the phone he said 'because of records.' When i asked him what that meant he said 'They had to be sure that I was really the same person.' If this is really the library's policy that would mean BPL has to think that someone: 1)stole my library card, 2)stole my password, 3)logged into my account, 4) knew that I had actually returned an item that was still showing up on my account, and 5) decided to call up the branch to request a search for that item out of the goodness of their heart. I am a frequent library user, both of NYPL and BPL. NYPL does not have this policy, you can request a search over the phone. Why does BPL? It makes no sense. They need to train their staff better, instead of having them reiterate "because of records." read more

Wow Park Slope library, I guess all the reviews are true. They are currently only allowing 1 person at a time in the library which is clear by the sign on the door. What isn't clear is if there is anyone in the library so you have to open the door touching a dirty push button that is obviously not cleaned regularly. Then a security guard high on fake authority yells at you like you are subhuman once you walk into the atrium about only one person being in the library. Still it's not clear because you can't see if there is someone unless you are in the atrium. There is no one in the atrium to tell you if a person leaves so when you see someone leave out the door of course you assume that the one person has left. You touch the filthy button a second time rolling the COVID dice and get yelled at again this time louder and more aggressive then the last about one person in the library. The security guard comes out and blocks your entrance now so you can't see if anyone has left and leaves you to stand out there even after you watch people leave the building without any notification that the person has left. You could wait forever unless you yell in the door without entering "Am I allowed to come in now?" How dehumanizing and ridiculous this system is all to drop a book in the book drop of the atrium and not even try to enter the library. There is no staff in sight only power mad security guards that treat you like garbage and don't care to get off their seat and actually let your know you can enter the building safely. read more

This is such a beautiful place. My toddler and I have come here on numerous occasions to read quietly and it seems like they're always screaming kids and babies that are not being managed. The library is supposed to be quiet. I really wish this branch would find a way to deal with screaming babies and kids. if you were to ask my religion, i would tell you that i'm a lapsed bibliophile. that said, this pretty little library, is one of my favorite places of worship. it has history. we have history. it all started, albeit a long long time ago, innocently enough. i was a fiscally unsound mother with two young bookworms and the days of summer were upon us. the oldest unlucky, briana m. had an unusual desire to check out books written in chinese. there were no pictures in said books and none of the unluckys could read in chinese. thus we embarked on a grand journey. we traveled the world through folk tales and mythology. because we enjoyed reading and were book gluttons,we invariably checked out enormous quantities of books and unfortunately some were swallowed up by dusty corners and odd places. this is why we remain persona non grata at this wonderful, fabulous reading establishment. read more

I only come to the library to pick up books I reserved online - doesn't seem like a great place to sit and read or discover new books as the space is mostly taken up by computers and the children's section. Therefore as a pickup/dropoff kiosk, I'd say this location works ok - I wish it was open on Sunday and had a slot to return books when the branch is closed - I end up driving to Sunset Park's branch to drop off books in their slot. read more

Incredibly loud because of unruly children and their incredibly disrespectful, entitled parents. No water fountain whatsoever (which is ridiculous), the only available two bathrooms are almost always out of order, the WiFi is complete garbage and the staff are exceptionally unhelpful and inept. It's a disgrace that one of Andrew Carnegie's flagship library branches has become outdated and more or less irrelevant to the neighborhood. read more

I think that the public libraries should and be better. Today, if you know where (And how) to search, you can find anything you need from your smartphone or your laptop. I prefer the library from time to time, there is something about it that makes me feel like I am now in a researching mood. Last week I decided to check the public library of Park Slope. They are far behind, and they better do something about it. The Wi-Fi is slow, and the feeling is of something out dated. The book selection is OK, but they must adapt to the options on 2016. I love love love libraries. This one is in a stunning building with some amazing glass stained windows. Just beautiful. they also have an upstairs gallery with some seating and some news papers. One thing really bothers me with this place ... browsing the bookshelves in the main adult section is nearly impossible. they cramped in so many desks and computer, that there is barely any space to look through the shelves. I always have the feeling people feel like I'm looking over their shoulder when I stand close to their chairs to look at the books. Very uncomfortable. read more

The fact that the guy sitting next to u addicted to heroine is in a nod with his face on the computer is not going to sway there attention. they have some computers and the building is beautifully renovated, but there's no maintenance whatsoever... no soap/cleanliness/tp ever... I visited this library since I moved into a new neighborhood and decided to pick up my books that I put on hold here. I really like the design of the building from the outside and also inside. I didn't get to explore the building much besides the held books area, but it felt very crammed. I also really didn't like how a lot of baby carriages were blocking the 2 doorways. Please don't leave the carriages inside, instead leave them outside or at least fold them first. read more

This library re-opened 4 months after I moved to Park Slope and its great! A beautiful space with a decent selection of books and space for both library computer use and large tables to work on with outlets underneath. It's super easy to put books on hold and check them out when I get there. I wish they had a book drop-off outside like other branches, but at least they're open late twice a week so I can get there after work. read more

This library is crazy after school. The staff is stressed by an onslaught of unsupervised kids and it isn't fair to the librarians.

When I took my kids to the library, there was no such thing as undisciplined children running, screaming, throwing books on the floor and not being told by the librarian to stop. The library was once a quiet place. There was respect for the people reading and taking care of their business. This park slope library is not shown any respect by the over privilege parents and children that use it. read more

it's beautiful inside and has some decent working space but the noise is ridiculous. they have a kids section and it's pretty much like a playground, it's really noisy and the sound travels throughout the whole library. I know they have a downstairs so I don't understand why they don't let the kids play there. despite the noise it's really a great place. read more

An absolutely stunningly ridiculous execution. Beautifully redone and spruced, to be sure, but given ENTIRELY to kids for huge swaths of the day, who are allowed to actually scream continuously for hours, with no correction from staff. Of course, it's neither the staff's fault, really, that this happens, nor its responsibility to police children, but what district manager could possibly have approved a policy of transforming a place of reading and study into a tantrum theater? It is just baffling beyond calculation. If you have to do ANYTHING that requires even a moment's thought, run as fast as you can from this asylum. Then there is the matter of the internet. After a multi-million dollar, three-year renovation, it still takes 40, 50, 80 seconds to load any site! When a frelancer's time is measured in desperate drops, the wait to do any research is shocking. What I can say is that it is a lovely building, but utterly ruined in its purpose and function. read more
