Great matzah ball soup.... worst corned beef sandwich that I ever had. If you advertise yourself as Brooklyn "style" deli, at least let the traditional deli food taste reasonably close to expectations. Pickles at the table are expected. Overstuffed sandwiches are expected. Fast service... the same. Went there today for lunch, sitting in the full service section. I ordered first cut corn beef on rye which was good, and corn beef was tender and moist. BUT after eating I went over to the section where there is a deli counter (for carry out, breads, bagels, etc.) on the top of the counter top there was an UNCOVERED tray with mini-mini cupcakes (not even a bite size - about 1/2 inch in size - without exaggeration!) because they were uncovered and no sign stating otherwise I took one believing they were samples. Very understandable on my part since it is a common practice in grocery stores, bakeries, and other delis. As I was removing the paper cup the man from behind the counter announced to me that the cupcake was $1.20. Three others at the counter were ready to help themselves to cupcakes until hear that they were not samples. There was a sign about 12 inches away from the tray and near regular size cupcakes in individual plastic containers. On the sign there was a small notation of the $1.20 price of the mini-mini cupcakes. SO I CAUTION YOU BEFORE YOU MAKE A TRIP TO BROOKLYN DELI!!! read more

Have been here for dinner and had good sandwiches and service. Decided to go for breakfast one morning recently to try a bagel and some chicken salad to go. Bad idea. The guy at the counter was not interested in helping, told me they had black and white bagels (they didn't, they had white and rye bagels), and gave me whitefish instead of chicken salad. When I went back in and told him about it, he said that white and rye was "their" version of a black and white, and that he just mislabeled the contents of the container and it was really chicken salad inside. When I asked if he charged me correctly, he didn't know and didn't make a move to check, so I just got my money back and left. Probably will go back for lunch or dinner, but definitely not for breakfast. read more

The cashier could work on their customer service just a bit because they were a bit stand-offish but they seemed really stressed out as it was pretty busy so I understand. Incredibly overpriced. 15.99 for a sandwich and literally all you get is a sandwich and a quarter or a half shriveled pickle. Not even a chip. I commented on this restaurant a few months ago, said that I wasn't overwhelmed with the pastrami here, and that I thought it was on the dry side. Must have been a fluke, because I've been back 2 or 3 times since then, and the pastrami has been great. This was the kind of place I hadn't been able to find in Rockville until now, just when I'm leaving. I had the Spanish Omlette and my husband had the Western Omlette. Good-sized portions, fresh made, the side order of bagel was fresh and delicious. The decor supports their theme without being junky and the place is clean. I would have preferred that the waitress had stopped by to refill the coffee before we were ready for the check but the mugs were huge and I don't feel I missed out on anything. read more

Matzoh ball soup is good and definitely homemade and not over-salted. I prefer the corned beef to the pastrami but they're both killer. The pickles are delicious. And the rye is so wonderfully crusty on the outside and so stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth soft on the inside....don't understand all of the haters. Ok, maybe it's not as good as some legendary NYC delis, but please tell me where you can find better corned beef in the DC area. I've been going to Brooklyn's deli for years with my family. Food has always been consistent with some things standing out (corned beef hash for example) and others good to decent. Service can be hit or miss but usually passable. We ordered carry out tonight and they forgot to give my daughter 1/2 the order, which was realized once back home. We were wary about trying this because of the negative reviews. That said, without many decent breakfast places in the area, we figured that we'd give it a go. Very happy that we did. (We've been back three times now, 2 weekend breakfasts and 1 dinner.) The service was excellent each time. Orders came out perfectly, and the coffee (usually mud at this sort of place) is pretty good. Personally, I hate delis (usually dingy, gross places with those dead gold fish in the case) so a nice, clean one with good breakfast food is a find. (Dinner food isn't bad either. My husband ordered a philly cheese steak at the last visit, and it was humongous. The kids' hotdog was grilled nicely, too. Not microwaved or boiled.) Outdoor seating, as well. Oh, they don't really have a dessert menu if you're doing dinner, but they do have cookies at the take-out counter. They let you choose those to eat at the table. I wish that they had a bigger cookie selection, but what they have (e.g., the black-and-white cookie) was very good. My only complaint is that the counter service is kinda slow. I tried that once and gave up, walking out. Tried it again and had enough time to get take-out coffee at starbucks next door. But the food and service at the tables have been consistently good and the prices are great. We still miss Bob and Edith's in VA, but we're fans of Brooklyn Deli/Grill. read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would. I use to love Brooklyn Deli in Potomac Md. Until todays experience I was with my father. He ordered a tuna sandwich they gave him stale bread dry tuna no lettuce no tomatoes and no onions no mayo and no pickle! He said it was horrible so we definitely won't be back. I ordered a scoop of tuna and a scoop of egg salad and a scoop of chopped liver and coleslaw came with it but I can't eat coleslaw so I substituted it with potato salad. The tuna was very dry disgusting and the egg salad was runny and no taste at all and the potato salad was watery gross!!! No taste 0 taste! We told our waitress she said would you like me to get a manager we said no that's ok we just won't come back here again! She didn't even bother to ask us would you like lettuce tomatoes and onions and mayo I can bring it to you smh! The tuna sandwich was 10.00 no chips not even a damn pickle for a 10.00 dry ass tuna sandwich with stale bread at that! NEVERRRR GOING BACK THERE AGAIN! I saw our waitress tell the manager we where not happy even though we told her she didn't have to get him he still could have came to us knowing we where not happy specially since she walked over to him to tell him we where not happy! But over all the food was very bad the only thing that was good was the chopped liver! But I was so disappointed I lost my appetite. Never again!!!! This is our third time ordering take out and they screwed up our order for the third time in a row. When we called to ask them to refund the meal they had messed up, the owner said he would only refund part of the meal (even though the whole meal was messed up) and made us bring back the meal for a refund, which of course, he promptly threw in the trash. What??? Who does that??? The management is beyond rude, the service is slow, and honestly, not worth the hassle. Save yourself the trouble and do not go here. Not worth it. We are mixed on this deli. We've gone twice with the same experience ... excellent food and terrible service. Additionally, the service was terrible in exactly the same way which impacted the food. the first time we went, I ordered a Reuben sandwich and my husband got a corned beef omelette. We asked for mustard when ordering and also when the food was delivered, but the mustard never came. Worse, the whole time we were waiting for the mustard and trying to flag over a waitress, the hostess was standing by us complaining to us that the waitresses were too inexperienced and they had not expected the unusually pretty day (in October) and opening up the extra tables outside. We asked this Helpful Hostess twice if she could get the mustard and finally she did, with another series of complaints about the waitresses. So ok, it was an unusually busy day ... we decided to try again yesterday. We almost turned around when we saw the same hostess just inside the door, but asked for a table anyway. I ordered an open-faced turkey sandwich which came without bread or gravy. It was exactly three roughly cut slices of turkey and some mashed potatoes. Same story where the waitress kept saying she'd bring gravy "soon" but it only came after we finished eating. The turkey was delicious, if dry, and I'm not sure why they call it an open sandwich if they don't include bread. My husband got a tuna melt that wasn't really a melt, more of a tuna sandwich, but they pan-toasted the bread with butter and it was also delicious, if decadent. So now our decision is, do we go back for the food knowing we won't get the order we expect, but should get something yummy anyway? Or do we go to one of the many many other good options in this area? We're not rushing back but I wouldn't rule it out. read more

The corned beef had a gross light pink color, not the nice deep color that it should have had. Lots of fat, ugh. The bread was totally soaked through with moisture within 5 minutes. I love this place! Ever since the other location closed, we have been going to the new location off seven locks road. They serve breakfast all day and you can create your own omelette for 5.99! It's a great deal that comes with a side and a bagel. My kids love the chocolate chip pancakes. If your ever in Rockville/ Potomac, go check out this deli/ restaurant where you can sit down and have cheerful servers wait on you. I'll start by saying I really wanted to like this place. Growing up in Germantown and now working in Rockthesda I wanted something that came close to Royal in Germantown. This aint it. I'll run through the Bullet Points - Service: Good, no complaints - Atmosphere: Ok. It's pretty loud with the high ceilings - Food: Most important of course and it wasn't good. The pickles to start were god awful. I'd usually eat pickled rug but this was bad. Tasted like it had sand in it. The Matzoh Ball soup was tasteless and it was not hot, hardly even warm. The Roast Beef Sandwich was the only thing that saved them from a one star review. It was a good portion, tasted good and had great horseradish on it. - Price: They think very highly of their food. Sandwiches are 10-12 dollars. While they are big, they aren't worth that amount of money. If it's a good deli you want then take the trip to Germantown and go to Royal Deli. Won't be back until I see a consistent run of 4 starts or better on Yelp and some reviews about change. Oh and if these folks have anything to do with the original Celberity Deli please bring it back. read more

There is NOT a good deli in the DC area. I will only compare Brooklyn's to other non New York delis. The corned beef and pastrami are jus OK and the portions are skimpy for the price. Go here if you can find a Groupon or Living Social deal. That price reduction makes the skimpy portions more "palatable" to the wallet. The service was surprisingly good. We recently ate at the Bagel Deli in Denver, Co. Portions were huge and there was a festive atmosphere in the restaurant. Too bad the same is not true at Brooklyn's. Maybe it is just the difficulty of operating a restaurant in MoCo. Duplicating Denver's Bagel Deli would make me a regular customer at this establishment. read more

After moving from NYC, I have been searching for years for a great deli in the DC area. My friend and I did a comparison, having lunch at a different deli every week. Brooklyn's was last on the list. Brooklyn's blew the other delis out of the water. The meats are cured perfectly, not too strong. The meats are lean, no need to order extra lean The rye bread is excellent The pickles are good The staff and owner are very friendly and accommodating. They have no problem customizing. They serve beef tongue, center cut (the sign of a real deli) They have an outdoor patio My only complaint is that the bakery has very few offerings and the black and whites were only so-so If you are searching for a real NY deli, your search has ended! I love trying different delis whenever I travel and I saw this place next to a Starbucks so it was an obvious Choice. I had the pastrami and I thought it was pretty good. I keep trying to find a good NY style deli around the Gaithersburg/Rockville area and continue to strike out. There's a couple of things that you measure a good deli by and to me that's their Corned Beef, Pastrami and Kinish. In each case it was mediocre. I had the pastrami on pumpernickel and it was extremely greasy, overly salty, fatty and with gristle to boot! The flavor wasn't right either. The pumpernickel bread was the most flavorless pumpernickel I've ever tasted and fell apart way to easily. The kinish we shared was tough, dry and flavorless. I think it was made the day before and reheated in a microwave. The corned beef was no better - this was very disappointing and for roughly $14 a sandwich hardly worth it (not to mention that the stack of meat on the sandwhich was not worthy of the cost either). Their homemade (I assume) pickles are horrible, very salty with no pickling flavor. They seem to like a lot of salt here. Service was lackluster and seemed unconcerned with my unhappy demeanor. When asked how it was I responded so-so, she said okay and walked off. A manager later asked if I wanted to box the 2/3 remainder of my sandwhich to which I responded "No thank you." He walked off without another word. Unfortunately I've lived and worked in NY and eaten at Katz's Delicatessen, I'm probably never going to find something that comes close to that.
