Excellent and 5 star service. I think Brooks Brothers is the only major US retailer who trains its staff properly. I cant believe some of the reviews people have left for this location, these reviews are wrong and or these people are upset because they cant afford to shop here and want everything handed to them. They must have changed their name to Brooks Doesn't Bother. 10 days ago I purchased two expensive suits. I travel most of the time so have limited windows to do business. I said that I absolutely had to have the suits to pick up on Friday. Because of a late flight arrival I didn't go in until Saturday. The service challenged staff person first couldn't find the order at all and then (after at least 15 minutes) said the suit was still in Long Island. I asked for my credit card to be credited for the purchases since they hadn't kept their commitment. She credited the card but the reason given was customer "changed mind." It's bad enough that they lie to customers about delivery dates, but to senior management with a cya answer "changed mind" when I didn't change my mind at all. They didn't perform as promised. I made the mistake of buying a suit at the Chevy Chase location during their fall Made to Measure event. After 4-5 months and numerous trips to the store for refitting/alterations, I wound up with a suit that had one sleeve longer than the other, one leg longer than the other and a really obnoxious crease/distortion in my groinal region that was caused by me 'wearing the pants too low' according to the tailor in CC. Apparently they don't realize that the whole point of made to measure is to get suits that are customized to a person's body and how they wear their clothes. Additionally, my sales rep, Steve, was abysmal. He only called me to inform me that the suit was in the first time, every time after that, I had to call the store to track him down and get a status on the order. A 6 week 'rush' process took 4 months. Fed up with the Chevy Chase store and still not satisfied with my (fairly expensive) purchase, I went to the Dupont location after a meeting. I asked for the manager and was directed to Jeanine. I explained to her what had happened and she called in one of her main tailors, Guillermo, who went over everything with me. Both assured they'd make good on the errors of the other store and explained to me that if you want a BB suit in the area, to go to the Dupont location, as they are one of the top stores in the company for suits, and if you want t-shirts and golf pants, to go to Chevy Chase. I went home, had the suit pressed and was going to bring it in to get it fixed during a DC 'snowstorm;' knowing that I was coming in that afternoon, Jeanine called me to let me know they were going to close the store an hour early due to the pending weather. Fantastic customer service that is truly appreciated. I brought the suit in, Guillermo took all the requisite measurements and told me that I could come back in a day to pick it up, but he'd rather me come back in a few days as he was going to be out of town and wanted to make sure everything was done perfectly. I didn't need the suit in a rush, plus I had already waited 4-5 months for it anyways, so a couple days didn't matter. When I picked it up, the suit fit perfectly. The sleeves and pants were excellent and the groinal issue was completely fixed so that the pants hung perfectly. I've worn it twice since I've gotten it back and have gotten nothing but compliments on how nice it looks. I truly appreciate Jeanine and Guillermo for their customer focused attitude and desire to get it right, even though it wasn't their mistake to begin with. If you're in the market for anything Brooks Brothers, I would fully endorse going to the Dupont location based on my experience. read more

I went to the Connecticut Avenue location to have measurements done for an out of state wedding party I am going to be in. After I asked a salesperson if I could get measurements done he looked at me like I was from outer space. He then pulled the tag out of my suit jacket (which I had purchased from this BB location) and said there are your measurements. I told him that I had been informed that I needed more specific measurements, but he dismissed this idea and said I had all the information I needed. While I was in the store I figured I would get a couple shirts. The salesperson informed me that they did not have my size in stock (because someone else with my size had been in recently and they had to order it for him). He didn't offer to do the same for me, so I left. As it turns out, I did need more specific measurements, which I had to do at home as the deadline was fast approaching. I would have much preferred to have a professional do it. I have never encountered such arrogance at a clothing store. I really felt like the salesperson was trying to make me feel like a moron. Employees are rude. I've visited this location a few times and have never had a great experience. Most recently I overheard two employees, who didn't realize I was standing right next to them, berate me behind my back. I don't know their names, but watch out for the bald little white guy with the small man complex and the smug black guy in glasses. Not sure why they felt the need to behave like that, but needless to say I didn't like it, and doubt I will ever go back. For what it's worth, management has always been polite and accommodating. I guess it's hard to find good help in the low skill / low wage space these days. PS - I believe the overall rating for this location should be much lower, since yelp erroneously excludes negative reviews from users that post less frequently. read more

I came into this BB's store to return a shirt that I incorrectly ordered in the wrong size. At first, I couldn't get the attention of any of the floor staff as they were honing all their attention on another gentleman. I walked over to the women's side of the store and told the person at the cash register I wanted a return. She took the shirt and found a floor associate to assist me. He asked if I wanted to exchange the shirt for the correct size. I thought why not, and had them ship me the exact same shirt in the correct size. I received it in a week and I didn't like it. I returned to the same store to return it. However, I find out that I could only get a giftcard instead of having the funds being reapplied to my credit card or being given cash. I explained the situation which didn't help. It would have been nice to know that exchanging my shirt invalidated the return of my funds. I'm stuck with a giftcard, which isn't the worst thing in the world, but I only shop at BB every six months. I am very unsatisfied. The associate should have warned me the repercussions of "exchanging" the shirt. read more

Unfortunately, for the first time Brooks Brothers has disappointed me. I came in to buy a Tux for my wedding and the service was atrocious they did not give ne a shirt, or a bow tie, had to ask for these things. I ended buying the Tux because the master Taylor told me he would fix the pants and I would look perfect. I went to my most recent fitting and the pants make me look like a lunch box. Square with no definition. I tried seing about returning it as I was not a satisfied customer per their website and instead I got ramroded with no Vaseline. Long story short I am looking for another pair of pants. Gone are the days when I could walk out Brooks Brothers with a sense of wow. Don't waste your time the service is horrible and they don't treat customers well even if you drop 1,400 on a tux. read more

Every time I go in this location, staff members mill about doing seemingly nothing and pay no mind to the fact that a customer is waiting at the register for upwards of 15 minutes. My husband and I went to Brooks Brothers (BB) today in search of a suit for 2 summer weddings. BB can sometimes feel a little too "grandpa," but I was impressed by our experience today. My husband is a hard-to-fit guy being tall and of an athletic build, but Jason,our associate and Joel, master tailor extraordinaire, were able to get my husband into a gorgeous suit. Jason was very helpful, friendly, and gave him great advice. Granted the suits are $$$, but they last forever and with the tailoring, the suit is modern and fits beautifully-- no grandpa here. For high-quality menswear with strong conservative appeal, the Brooks Brothers label is as good as it gets, and their DC retail store on Connecticut Avenue meets every expectation one might have for a purveyor of fine clothing. This place delivers in every area of professional service. Their salesmen are knowledgeable, polite, and offer useful suggestions. (An Australian-sounding fellow named Bob Milam was particularly helpful to me in rifling through a sale selection of their "Madison" suits). If an item is out of stock, the staff is quick to find a store that has it, and ships it out within the next day or so. The single greatest thing about this place, however, is their tailors. Local dry cleaning establishments, independent tailors, and even luxury retail chains like the Saks 5th avenue and Neiman Marcus up in Friendship Heights tend to employ English-challenged folks who (I have found) tend to ignore whatever input or guidance you offer them (i.e., "I'd like a quarter of an inch of shirt cuff showing through this jacket sleeve) and instead execute their own series of often half-assed modifications. Short of taking your clothing to Field's over in Georgetown (which can be extremely pricey), the tailors at the Brooks Brothers are the way to go in DC for expert alterations to menswear. read more

They have awesome suits, shirts, and shoes and they can even do that custom embroidery stuff on the cuffs, not that I have or ever would, but they can do it! I am posting the review that I sent to the Manager several weeks ago, but have never heard back.... Victoria, I wanted to bring to your attention a situation of what I believe was extremely poor customer service at your Brooks Brothers location (Connecticut Ave) recently. I was in your store on Thursday, August 29th, around 3:30 pm. After walking through the front door entrance, I noticed one of your employees standing there with her arms folded -- she looked at me and did not speak, nor offer to provide any assistance. I initially thought she was helping another customer, but after a few minutes of browsing through the men's section, it became evident that she was not helping anyone. After several other minutes of browsing, I started walking towards the front of the store, only to see a gentleman who made eye contact with me and nodded, but did not offer to speak, nor offer to provide any assistance -- continuing to walk past me towards the counter where he was standing and facing the front of the desk. Might I add that at that point, there were no other customers in the store -- so it wasn't a busy or peak time. As I started to walk out of the store, an older gentleman walked in the store, only to be greeted and assisted by the male worker who walked right past me. Because of this behavior, it was a necessity to say something to your male colleague -- so I asked for the manager, to which he then replied if he could help me with something and I told him that I thought it was poor customer service to have a customer in the store for that length of time and not one of the the workers there offer to speak, nor help assist me. In this climate of divide and heightened social, racial and sexist attitudes and perceptions, I could only ascertain that it might have been because of the fact that I was African American -- regardless of my professional attire. I lived and worked in Washington for more than 15 years and have frequented this Brooks Brothers location often and it was important for me to write this e-mail to express my deep displeasure and disappointment for the way that I was treated in your store recently. If you'd like to discuss this further, I'm more than willing to offer up my time to provide more details regarding my experience. Ultimately I hope that this e-mail will provide the important opportunity for a candid discussion about ways to engage ALL customers regardless of background or ethnicity --because behavior such as what I experienced last Thursday is completely unacceptable. I usually don't take the time to write reviews, let alone long reviews, but I was so appalled by the attitude I received from Susan the sales associate that I feel this review is necessary. After finding a coat I loved on Brooks Brothers' online store, I called this store to see if they had it in stock to try on. Unfortunately, they told me that the coat was only available online and not in stores. Since I couldn't try it on in the store, I had to order two different sizes to see which size fit better. My less than stellar experience began when I decided to return the smaller size coat in this store. I walked into the store with the coat in its shipping box. This was probably a bad idea, as no sales associate initially approached me. Anyhow, I eventually found Susan and told her that I needed to return an item I bought online. I tried to make small talk and explain why I was returning the coat, but she seemed disinterested and just led me to the register. As she processed the return, she sighed several times and just downright dismissive. After she completed the transaction, she didn't offer to take the shipping box, so I had to ask if she could throw it away. She also didn't bother to ask if I needed any further assistance. This all would have been okay, albeit a bit unwelcoming, if I had just left the store at this point. Since I was already there, I decided to look around the store to see if there was anything else I wanted. After about 5 or 10 minutes perusing, Susan saw that I was looking around. She came over and said, "Oh. If you're actually going to buy something, I can help with that." In other words, she was saying that it's only worth her time to actually talk to me if I'm buying something. Nice job Susan! Anyhow, I felt a little defensive and explained that I wanted to buy my coat in the store but was told that it was online-only. Susan quipped that it was because the coat was a sale item. I responded that the coat was full-priced, but I merely received a corporate discount. She harrumphed and walked away. Maybe it doesn't seem as bad when described in words, but this was a truly unpleasant experience. For a store that depends on its customers returning, I would expect every customer (including those that are not currently a source of the associate's commission) to be treated with respect and dignity and at least humored when they speak with a sales associate. I really do love the style and quality of Brooks Brothers clothing. I own more than 20 Brooks Brothers shirts, several Brooks Brothers suits, a couple Brooks Brothers sweaters, and now a very nice Brooks Brothers coat. I've been in many other Brooks Brothers stores and have always had a great experience. That said, I will probably never go to this particular store again thanks to Susan's attitude. I'll either be ordering online or trudging over to the Georgetown store from now on. read more

If any fellas out there need help in the men's department be sure to ask for Paul. Not only is he welcoming and knowledgeable but he's also friggin hilarious. In the midst of a fashion emergency (getting a tuxedo shirt to fit my frame) he measured me and helped me determine the best shirt and best fabric. I have an unusual size that normally is only available online but he was able to locate on at the Brooks Brothers in Tyson's and put it on hold for me to pick up and I was able to do so. Whew. Simply the best chain of men's stores around. Their ties are classic patterns and have excellent longevity. Their pants are incredibly durable. They have occasional sales that offer excellent prices. Suits are expensive but very high quality. The staff is helpful. They give members of fraternities 20% discount cards upon request. read more

I went to Brooks Brothers today (Thursday) and John the sales gentlemen was great, but the tailor Guillmo (Wild Bill they call him) was amazing. First of all, he was knowledgeable and funny (Expert). I just got out of military (USMC) activation, and I always wondered when I took pictures my neck looks like it was to the left. For years I couldn't figure out why. Until Mr. Guillmo tailored me. He told me to stand straight and he ask another staffer (I think he was in training) What do you see? He didn't know, Mr. Guillmo said his right should and upper back is more developed than his left side. Ha! He figured something I would have never would have figured out or would have ask anyone. I just didn't want to bring attention to my issue, so I would never ask anyone not even my wife. This guy is amazing and worth the price. BB was busy and everyone was helpful (EVERYONE). read more

I have two impressions of this Brooks Brothers store, both based on my experience as I prepared for my wedding. First, I bought my tuxedo shirt at the Brooks Brothers at Tyson's Corner. It was a very busy Saturday afternoon, so the service was a bit slow, but I received very gracious help in choosing a tuxedo shirt in my size. Second, my best man and I dropped by the Brooks Brothers in Dupont the day before the wedding desperately searching for someone who could help us learn to tie a bow tie, which we had neglected to do. Joe (I wish I could remember his last name) was incredibly generous with his time, despite the fact that neither of us were going to buy anything. He took his time, got us a glass of water as we struggled with it, and then celebrated with us when we got it right. My tie looked great the day of my wedding! He won a lifelong customer that day. read more

This is a great Brooks Brothers overall. For the most part, they carry a variety of items in stock and offer good service. An added incentive is their made-to-measure events, which in my opinion, they do well. The tailors are somewhat mediocre however, but sufficient. read more

I am a huge fan of Brooks Brothers, and have been a member for years, but this location is lacking in customer service quality unfortunately. I was approached by a female employee in the men's shirts section who began to help me for a bit, and then she said she had to check in with another customer. Fifteen minutes later she was nowhere to be seen, and they lost business that day for no reason. I will talk from my own experience, this store is not one i go to very often, I usually like to go there during winter or fall, the cardigans, jackets, suits, scarfs, gloves, and hats are very good and have a classic simplicity to them all, that makes them look quite elegant. A year ago i bought a two button Fitzgerald suit, to commemorate my personal achievement of losing 12 pounds, grey, perfect fit, and i must say besides my burberry ones, this is my favorite suit in the world, if i could i would use it everyday, shoot, I'm planing on eating it when i can't wear it anymore. Walked in to buy a suit during their semi-annual sale. The service was great; was helped by Brian, who quickly picked out the exact suit i was trying to describe. Brought out a bunch of other options but he'd nailed it with the first one. Most painless, effective suit shopping trip I've ever had. There was no pressure-salesmanship, which I find turns me off. Providing additional options was done in a helpful, not forceful way. Will be going there again. read more

I've purchased a few items from this location in Dupont Circle and it's been fine overall. Some reviewers have said they have gotten little to no customer service. Well, the store apparently took these reviews to the extreme because on one particular occasion I was followed around like a criminal. I was browsing the store for some gifts for the holidays. At one point, I was holding up a sweater to gauge the size and look of it. I was then approached by the security guard asking me what I thought I was doing. I told her I was just browsing and then she proceeded to follow me and give me a death stare. As if that wasn't enough, thereafter a store associate took over and started following me. She initially asked me if I needed help with my items and have them stored at the register. I said that would very helpful. She left and came back and started following me around the store, not saying or asking anything. Then, I stopped to text a friend for their thoughts on the items I thought about purchasing and this store associate stood about two feet away from me, just staring. I did not see any other customer being followed around by a security guard and store associate and being watched in such a manner. I ended up purchasing my items but I will not come back. Perhaps I am particularly sensitive to having some personal space while shopping but I thought being followed around and watched by two individuals was a bit much. read more

Pure incompetence. Employees are incredibly stuck up, the type that are mad about how their lives turned out and are taking it out on their clientele. Tried to return a pair of shoes I bought on their website, because they were too big, literally wore them 10 steps inside my apartment, and they said they were ineligible for return...apparently they were too worn down. After a five minute argument, after which the airhead woman "helping" couldn't give me an answer, I was able to exchange them for a smaller size, though at this point I didn't want the shoes because I was fuming at the idiocy of the employee base. Had a wonderful experience with Linda earlier today. My younger brother recently graduated college, and as a gift I wanted to get him some clothes for his new job. Linda was very helpful and patient; she took the time to go through measurements and fit with him. Other locations tend to be a bit snobby, but this location was so pleasant to work with. Although there is a nice selction of clothing in this store, it has the worst customer service of any upscale clothing retailer I have experienced in the entire DC area, and repeatedly. I've been literally ignored by retail staff and even told that I shouldn't want my pants to fit the way I did. And the way I wanted them to fit was classic tailored. I have had at least 5 negative experiences in this store. Staff will focus on one customer for 15 minutes straight while 5 other customers wander around looking for assistance. Downright awful. Go down to the Burberry down the street for good customer service and better clothes. Staff here need to get with the program and learn what quality, upbeat, positive customer service is about. Take a class from Nordstrom or something. All this combined with the fact that almost all of their polos now are made in China. read more

As per norm, Susan took great care of me .. getting a new button sewed on and providing 2 extra buttons ..all in less than 10 minutes! Love this place! This is my favorite Brooks Brothers location in the Washington, DC region, by far. Anytime I have gone there, whether to see what is included in the sale, for a gift card purchase, or to purchase something else, I have received excellent service from the professional associates who are in this store. I very much like the convenience of not having to traverse a mall to get to the location, especially when Brooks Brothers is the only store that I am considering for a particular purchase. This store is very much on par with the New York stores, and I will always go out of my way to patronize this location over others nearby. read more
