Many teachers have been there for decades, which says alot about their devotion to child care and understanding of the curriculum. They have a beautiful new facility and regularly have classroom activities for the kids like a petting zoo or story time guests, etc. Their academic program is strong. They also offer extra curricular activities (optional) like dance, soccer, karate which allow my kids to try new things, but it does not replace any of their academic programming, its simply a different physical play activity. They are not as expensive as others in the area probably because they are a nonprofit, but still provide high quality child care. They also offer before and after care once they are in kindergarten (which will be a life saver).

That doesn't seem organized to me and lacks planning. When we went to do a drop in visit the doors leading to the retirement home, that we were promised were kept closed, were wide open. Anyone could come and go and no one would have noticed. We saw a stroller with three babies in it left in the hallway unsupervised near an exit door for a good 8 minutes. Yes we timed it out of curiosity. When we went into the room we saw a little girl with a blanket pulled over her face sleeping under a shelf with a radio on it. We were told she likes to sleep in the dark (INSANE). One kid was in a part of the room by himself completely out of view of the caretakers who were rocking babies in bouncers with their feet. We took our child elsewhere.

Washing hands, sharing, helping set the lunch table, helping to cleanup, and more. They engage in redirecting behavior that can be distracting to other children. As a parent, this is a technique I was not aware of and I'm glad to have learned. I now use redirecting instead of timeout. The classrooms are designed for each age group. There are plenty of learning activities as well as fun toys, such as Legos. Every day my son participates in circle time, where his teachers provide instruction on the topics that they are reviewing. There is also plenty of outdoor playtime and one nap a day. Naptime/Quiet time is around 130 and is for two hours. The teachers are fantastic! They are not daycare workers they are certified teachers. Each classroom has a headteacher with two or more assistants. They are very organized and have activities planned for each day. I'm surprise my son doesn't come home with homework at 3years old :) Every day I am happy to take my son to Falls Church McLean Children Center because I know he's going to have excellent care and education. There are other programs parents can take advantage of through Fairfax County, I don't participate in those however they are available if I need them. Speech therapy is one of them. The office staff is very helpful! Miss Kathy, the director has a lot of experience in her field and it reflects in her management of the center. His days are filled with a good balance of play and structure, and I leave him there knowing he is safe and cared for. She amazes me with the things she learns every day. The classes are small so she gets hands-on attention from her teacher, but she also gets to know all the other teachers very well. The teachers are caring, patient, and wonderful. I thought she would be intimidated by the pre-school environment and having the lunch room on a different floor, but she loves the fact that she gets to "travel" to different classrooms and eat with everyone. The playground is huge and completely shaded too.
