Been a few years ! Extremely disappointed! Change is not always good ! I wont be back ! For the last 15 years we LOVED this place, actually eating here 3 or 4 days a week!! Very good friends with the entire staff ! But tonight was terrible ! House made bloody mix was so nasty I refused to drink it! Wife's " farm raised KAT fish" had a 4" parasite worm ! The boudin was so nasty ! All of the so called , in house sauces were sub par!! And NO tartar sauce , none!! In a damn cajun restaurant ! The size of my salmon was embarrassingly small! Over 130.00$ for 2 people and 2/3s of our food was left on our plate as it was disgusting !! New owners have no clue what real cajun is !! This is just sad! read more

The food alone makes this 5 We went for lunch and ordered off the lunch menu. Was not expecting the potions to be so large. We split a fried catfish poboy with Cajun fries and an order of the shrimp and crab gumbo. The service was good and we appreciated the manager coming around periodically to check on how our meal was going. If we ever make it back through this area, we will definitely be back. read more

They've lost the taste. It used to be an authentic Cajun restaurant with fresh food. Now the seasoning is gone. The authentic food that was flown in seems to be frozen and microwaved and or boiled . Broussards used to be an experience in culinary enjoyment. Food offerings are plain, with nothing added. Please go back to when Broussards was real Cajun food with chefs and not boiled items that are Frozen. The shrimp is no better than. What could be bought at Walmart. . Very sad to see and people will slowly disappear. It's not too late. Change your mindset or sell it to someone that will love Broussards. read more

This place was so yummy. I was actually surprised how good the cajun food was here. The three way sampler was everything. I could have eaten three orders, even though the portion was gigantic. The batter was amazing. While fried nothing was overly greasy. The alligator was amazingly flavor. The po boy was everything you want: fresh bread, perfectly fried fish, good about of mayo, lettuce and tomatoes. The server was really personable, and the beer list was good. The food was so delicious.. our server was helping and knowledgeable about the food and the area, being we're not from here. The ambiance was kinda quiet. We got there at 5 on a Friday evening. The place wasn't extremely busy that time. We will definitely be back. Some of the dishes in my review I didn't name because they were my husbands. Used to go here years ago when they opened. Wife's large family in Cape said "no good" and to stay away. It was so good when first opened. Was in Cape from California to bury my wife of 55 years. Went with friends to the restaurant. The very worst. Food was unbeatable. So really poorly prepared and over salty. Had worst food ever. Our entire party agreed. The bright note was our waitress Saylor. The best!! Cheerful and great demeanor. She was our saving grace if there was one. read more

Service was very attentive. They greet you with a smile and very welcoming when you walk in. We arrived at 8:30 from Memphis and was worried about the 9pm closing. They host explained the kitchen closes at 9pm and we would have plenty of time. It was 2 in our party and they seated us immediately. I order some sort of sampler with alligator tails, crawfish tails and some other tail . Every tail was fried, seasoned, hot and crispy! The sauce provided for dipping was cocktail sauce that was delicious. Now the alligator tail should've had some sort of Horseradish remoulade dipping sauce but I settled with ranch. I also had some Cajun fries that were seasoned very well. It was late so I didn't get anything really heavy but the menu did list plenty of New Orleans seafood favorites! We will drive from St. Louis out of our way to go to Broussards in Cape Girardeau. Famously in our house we ate there on the way to Memphis, on the way back, and got take out for one more meal. The etouffee is of the highest standard. You can get gator, crawfish, chicken or shrimp. I've had it on pasta, potatoes and rice. (The potato was not for me, but there was nothing wrong with it!) If you can possibly save room for dessert they have the custardiest bread pudding I've had. My partner would like to point out that their music is always on point. Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, etc. Service is always quick, friendly and we have been their at every time of day and night. So I ordered my food to go and everyone was super nice on the phone and when I got there. Five stars for service. The food. Wow. Where do I start. The bread was soft but had no flavor-thank god for the butter. The gumbo had potatoes in it and it was not made from scratch roux. Made me sad. The red beans and rice were decent but oddly spicy in a bad way like that deep spice and not the kind that lightly hits your tongue from the get go with the lasting flavor of a well made base. And the crawfish etoufee...I don't know what it was but there was crawfish. Shrimp tasted frozen with too much breading. They did the rice well. It was perfectly cooked. Grew up in Texas near Louisiana and we have a lot of Viet Cajun influence and a lot of Louisiana transplants. This made me a little sad. I saw a review where I had posted a five-star rating for good food and good service seven years ago. Unfortunately, the two experiences I've had over the last week and a half have made me want to come back and revise my feelings toward this restaurant. My oldest sister came to town after years of being away and ordered all of her favorites, including raw oysters on the half shell. All of the crackers were extremely stale. The étouffée had very little flavor. The oysters, once huge and flavorful, were not the same. I realize this could be due to the season; however, the stale crackers that were served with them left a lot to be desired. After we paid, the manager came over to our table and asked how things were, and we let him know that the crackers were stale. My friend and her husband, who came from California to visit, wanted to eat there because it had been her old workplace. I was disappointed, after having a few crackers that seemed fresh, to learn that the remaining crackers were all as stale--or worse--than they were during my previous visit with my sister over a week ago. Her seafood gumbo had one shrimp. Her husband's jambalaya tasted like tomato paste with no other flavor. Additionally, we ordered a bottle of Riesling. Noticing that the neck of the bottle was extremely warm, we asked for additional ice. Sadly, it was not even remotely cold by the time we had finished our meal and paid our tab. I asked if I could just pay for a glass, however, due to the fact that we opened it they could not accept the bottle, but only charged me for a glass; thank you for that. Our amazing server, Samantha, is the only positive thing I can say about my recent visits to this restaurant. Thank you for your attentiveness, Samantha. Broussard's has been a Cape Girardeau staple for decades. I am now unsure about bringing visitors back to this restaurant based on the two experiences I've had in under two weeks. Ordered a cup of gumbo which was excellent but the steamed crab appetizer and clam strips were not good. The crab tasted old and was salty, was hard to get the meat off the shell. Had lunch there today, first time I have eaten there in about a year. I ordered the lunch version of the shrimp and crab meat gumbo, which was supposed to have sausage in it as well. There might have been one or two tiny shrimp in my serving, but I could detect no crab meat and no sausage. The taste was OK, but it felt like a rip off. The dish was supposed to have three different kinds of meat and it barely had any meat at all. Probably be quite a while before I return to Broussard's. read more

The redesign on this restaurant is wonderful! They've always had good food and the building keeps getting nicer and nicer each time we go. We enjoyed the gator tails and steamed crawfish. My favorite dish is the chicken creole parmesan. This time I tried something different with the shrimp etouffee stuffed baked potato and it was really heavy on the cheese- probably would not order again. My husband liked his salmon that came with crawfish etouffee and gumbo. The jambalaya seems like a safe bet as well! Our whole crew was pretty disappointed that they don't have the house port wine salad dressing anymore. Hopefully they can bring it back again. Our server Mike was great! One meal took about 10 minutes longer to come out than all the others. Besides that, we enjoyed our meal. The corner area area we sat at was nice for a big group because we could actually hear each other surprisingly. read more

Worst meal I have had here in 30+ years. Apparently "Kevin" has decided to change just about everything on the menu. Étouffée is now out of a bag, remoulade is totally different, no tartar sauce for fish (won't even carry the little packets) and is now the same as the remoulade. Wife had chicken and sausage étouffée, and literally had two small pieces of sausage and 3 small pieces of chicken. Was told you can't add nor buy extra sausage because they have no way to ring it up and have none to cut up since it now comes out of a bag! Had a cup of red beans and rice, and it had maybe a teaspoon of rice, and no sausage. Bread, which used to be good, is now cheap sliced white bread. Hushpuppies appeared to be frozen before nuking them. Potato skins are disgusting. Staff and management told us they agreed with us and have been taking the backlash, and apparently Kevin doesn't care!!! Kevin, listen to your customers, your staff, your managers! We won't be back. 2 stars because the food was amazing but the service was crap when we arrived the host sent us upstairs which was no problem when we made it to the top of the stairs the hostess was waiting for us and she had a terrible attitude barely showed us to our table and then said "what do you want to drink" we waited atleast 10 minutes for our server to even show up and there was only 3 other tables with people at them that had a different server. she basically took our order and then we never saw her again until our food came out our side salads were delivered with the entre' and we were never given refills on our drinks after we had to ask for them. we ate our food with no drink and she showed up 25-30 minutes later to cash us out sadly even though this is one of our favorite local restaurants we probably won't be back read more

Visited this place for a graduation dinner and everything was horrible. We sat at our table at 3:00 p.m. It took our waitress 25 minutes to take our drink and appetizer orders. It took 20 minutes after to receive our appetizer, yet we still hadn't received iur drinks. The Gator Tails were actually a plate of crust. The manager was oblivious to what I was relaying to him. The Steak & Shrimp was tasteless and overcooked, the Steam Pot was tasteless and extremely dry (no flavor at all), the Shrimp Pasta was served with Spaghetti and Chicken (we brought this to the attention of our waitress and she picked up a butter knife and began pushing the food around in the plate looking for Shrimp. She actually said the Chicken was Shrimp). Needless to say, the Shrimp Pasta was no longer wanted after the waitress played in the food. The Steam Pots were served COLD! The 2 hours is this restaurant was Horrible and I Will Never go back. I have told everyone I know not to patronize this restaurant. Looking back, I would have had a better experience at White Castle. The food, Horrible. The service, Horrible. The advertisement, totally overrated. The atmosphere, stressed. Our waitress, clueless. I was extremely patient and stressed to the manager and waitress that a lot of the problems were coming from the kitchen. I have never been this disgusted with any restaurant I patronized. Our table was not the only table complaining about the food and service. The presentation of the food was like having dinner served on dirty trashcan lids after shooing the flies away. Honestly, overall such a good experience at Broussard's cajan kitchen. We had the Felix sampler, I really enjoyed the golden friend crawfish and gator tails; I didn't care much for the fried clams which I think was due to the texture. The cocktail sauce will brought it all together. I had the half orde cajun favorite, jambalaya, and it was definitely worth it. It was really flavorful! The sausage, chicken and shrimp were tender and well seasoned. I highly recommend it to everyone! read more

I've been eating here since I was a teenager, and now that I live in Texas I eat here every time I visit Cape. I love everything about Broussard's food. I've spent time in South Louisiana, New Orleans, Shreveport, and have had my fair share of "Texicajun" food. I would put Broussard's up against any Cajun restaurant in any of those places. My favorite is the jambalaya. I LOVE that they serve with creole sauce on top. It's just the right amount of spice too. The boudain sausage is delicious too. I cannot recommend this place enough. A beautiful view of the Mississippi is yours if you sit in the second level. My only critique is that I wish they had an elevator. For those with mobility issues it can be hard or impossible to sit on the second floor dining room. read more

My wife and I were in Cape Girardeau for a college track meet and decided to try a local spot for dinner. Broussard's Cajun Cuisine is located in the old downtown area near the Mississippi River. Main Street is a throw back area and is really cool. We arrived at about 6:00 on a Saturday night and were instantly greeted and seated. Our server, Mari, was great. She was knowledgeable about the menu and knew what was popular. The restaurant has a Cajun/industrial look and was clean and well kept. We ordered the spicy popcorn shrimp as an appetizer. I ordered the crawfish Etouffe'e with red beans and rice, and my wife ordered the fish Po'boy with fries. The popcorn shrimp was good (we aren't seafood eaters). the shrimp was hot and well seasoned. Not greasy at all. The cause was probably spicier than the shrimp, but made for a good appetizer. The Etouffe'e was good. It was hot and fresh. The sauce was creamy and had good flavor. I couldn't really taste the crawfish, but here was plenty of it throughout the dish. The red beans and rice was really good. My wife enjoyed the fish Po'boy and found no problem with it. including soft drinks, the total was $50. we had more than enough food and really enjoyed the meal. If you are i the Cape, stop by and have a good meal down by the Mighty Mississippi! read more
