Holland's first cookie dough bar! I read about it in the newspaper a few weeks back and today I…read morefound myself in Rotterdam so thought I'd give it a try. They have about 4 or 5 different types of cookie dough, and then all sorts of toppings and sauce you can add on top as well as ice cream for those warm summer days. I decided to go for the classic plain 'Baker's Dough' with white and dark chocolate chips added. Because you really can't go wrong with chocolate chip cookie dough! I got a medium because while I was in the line I thought the scoops of dough looked kind of small, but actually because the dough is so rich I really regretted it! I should have gotten a small, because it was pretty hard to get through the medium. But I persevered because I paid €4 for that dough! Overall, if you're a fan of cookie dough, I recommend Baker's Dough. Looking forward to trying all their different kinds of dough in the year to come ;)

The shop was decorated cute. Unfortunately, it didn't have the number of cookie dough choices as I…read moreexpected..only 4 types. I guess this place is good for a coffee but not as a cookie dough shop. They had some nice toppings to go on the dough, plus one could have ice cream too. My husband had the small scoop of red velvet, but unfortunately didn't feel well after eating it. I shared the small chocolate scoop with fresh strawberries and it tasted good. If you are expecting a cookie dough bar/cafe like they have in the USA you will be disappointed. We came from out of town to check it out, but I can't say that I will return again unless I'm already in the neighborhood shopping or visiting. Good luck with your new business. I advise you to add more flavors.

Aka the shop for all your stroopwafel needs. I honestly never knew they came in so many flavors. So…read moremany. If nothing else, come for all the samples. And if you're able to attend one of their short demonstrations. It'll happen either in the basement with the full theater kitchen or in the back of the shop at a little counter. Either way, they'll give you some of what is made for a taste, and I never realized just how good freshly made, warm stroopwafel was. It is amazing. O.o We were part of a tour group and the demo came as part of the package. If you're on your own, I think it may cost a few euros. Woltje's Backerij, or Woltje's Bakery, consists of a shop (1st floor), bakery (downstairs), and museum (upstairs). They sell chocolates, ice creams, and waffles, but their main focus are stroopwafels. This is a Dutch signature wafer consisting of thinner brown sugar wafers with a caramel filling that was traditionally laid over the top of a steaming cup of tea, hence the circular shape. The founder/original baker was a woman (who I get the feeling was a pillar of her community) who apparently took the original recipe and made it her own into the Volendamse wafel. Nowadays, Woltje's seems to have stuck with the base recipe but have expanded in terms of variety with four base categories (caramel, speculaas/cookie butter, honey, and chocolate-covered). Seriously, there was an APPLE PIE stroopwafel. And I REALLY love the chocolate covered ones. Those are really satisfying bites. Again, we came as part of a tour group. The majority of the group were led down for a presentation in the basement kitchen. Meanwhile, we were in the group of remaining people (who couldn't fit) and were given a much more intimate, close-up presentation at a little counter set up in the back of the store. I think the basement presentation was more of how the bakery makes or used to make stroopwafels in large batches. While I would have liked the see the kitchen myself, but seeing the actual process closely and also a lot of fun. I'd love to try to make some myself. Overall, this was a really fun stop and I loved tasting everything. Most importantly, I thought the short demonstration was great and the discovery that warm stroopwafels are AMAZING. Additionally, the packs and tins they sell make for great souvenirs. For cookies, they're actually pretty sturdy and could actually take a bit of pressure. All of ours got back to the States without any problems.

STROOOOOOOP WAAAAFFFLLLLEEEEE!!!…read more If you don't know what a stroop waffle is, you should. Its a classic Dutch dessert consisting of two very thin crispy waffles with some sweet warm caramel syrup between them...its pure magic. BUT! You need to get it fresh, don't fall for the cold, dry and inferior prepackaged stroop waffles. For a mere €2, one of Woltje's divine Dutch divas will hand craft you a hot, fresh, caramel crispy stroop waffle..a perfect ratio of carb crunch, sweet caramel, and joy exploding in your mouth. Eat this!
