This really is quite a dreadful place. It's set in a 70's shopping precinct in the middle of a…read morereally depressing little town. The building itself has that SAD disorder and with very little natural daylight inside and poor ventilation (the air outside is poor anyway because of all the factories in the area) it's quite easy to feel quite poorly quite quickly. From it's opening at 9am until it closes, it is full of some of the most undesireable characters that this deprived town has to offer, often drunk or worse, and often abusive. There's just one security guard (a woman last time I was there) and a dozen or so staff doing various jobs, plus a few computerised terminals. But the staff, bless them, really do seem to try their best despite all odds. Because it is a relatively small office, they know their 'customers' individually, which means that they can focus on helping those who genuinely want to be helped, and give a kick up the backside of those who are just on the scrounge. It's a very depressing place, but if you're unlucky enough to find yourself singing on and you live anywhere in the area, you CAN and should request that this be your local centre, as you're almost guaranteed superior service to the larger centres in Scunny & Grimsby. They've also got free and plentiful car parking - a huge bonus if cash is tight!
