This is a review that I've been dreading having to write, if for no other reason than I know…read morethere's very little I can say that can do my time at this stunning bed and breakfast justice. Having been very lucky to stay in some pretty incredible places around the world, there's no question that The Old Parsonage easily ranks within my top five. I was stuck looking for a place to get away for a couple of days to myself during which I could do nothing but write, drink wine, relax, and write some more. (And drink more wine...obviously.) After a chance meeting with one of the two owners, an artist himself who takes pride in offering a unique space for creativity, I was sold on the Maitland Suite and booked myself in for a two night, three day stay. When I finished the hour-ish drive from the city, I was floored to realize that I had the entire building to myself - meaning that my plans of being a recluse in my room for three straight days instantly changed to cozying up in any of the six to eight different sitting rooms that were all at my disposal. The fact that I was able to feel as comfortable as I would at home, except with infinitely more beautiful surroundings and gorgeous wood-fire heat, was unbelievable. From room to room, it's plain to see that not a single detail has been overlooked. Each space is a meticulous collection of shabby-chic décor that's both luxurious and liveable - that is, it's not a place where you feel uncomfortable spending the entire day and night. I lounged around like I owned the place, stopping short of napping in the middle of the main living room although I can't imagine that having been a problem... You won't have to rush out in the mornings in search of provisions either. I would make my way downstairs at my leisure to find fresh orange juice, coffee, toast, and scrambled eggs ready for the feasting as I chatted with the owners about life in the UK, our favourite cities around the world, and the importance of getting away from it all from time to time. Truly, I could go on and on, but I won't. Instead, I'll just say that before even leaving the premises, I had already arranged two more plans to return with family, and am already looking forward to my next writing escape. I can't imagine spending them anywhere else.

It was large and roomy with nice kitchen and living room areas. The breakfasts were fresh and delicious and different each morning. When we booked, we did it as a package and also got books, passes to several attractions/museums and tickets to 2 musicals. The location was perfect. We were able to get to most of the places we wanted to go quickly and easily. I would definitely recommend staying here again.

Sonya was fine with us checking in early, a request I made via email. Her home is very clean and spacious. While she collects antiques, there was nothing old and stuffy about the decor. A nice common area with a drink fridge was a good touch. Our room, the Silver Maple was very comfortable with a queen bed and a twin bed. I slept well even though the mattress was a bit stiff. I am not always a fan of the claw-foot tub because it can be awkward, but ours was outfitted with a nice shower curtain and a shelf for soaps. Hot water was in abundance as well as water pressure. The bath had a fan and was newly redone. All in all very, very nice. No air conditioning, but not needed when we were there. A fan was provided and that worked just fine. Breakfast choices were fairly extensive, but I chose a light breakfast which was essentially granola and yogurt with fruit. The fruit was deliciously fresh, very good variety. My mother chose a somewhat pedestrian vacationer's breakfast which was eggs and bacon. I think I would have opted for the strawberry french toast or the intriguing fruit omelet, but I was trying to 'be good.' The Maple Grove Inn is located a in the small but very quaint historic village of Riverside-Albert. Sonya is a first-time innkeeper and you would never know it! I can't believe they just opened. I am sure it will only continue to evolve and grow, but it was perfect as it was. Go and support Sonya and Jeff in their new venture.

GUESTS BEWARE - Innkeeper threw us out with no warning. Having grown up in a hotel family and…read morestudied hospitality, I understand the service industry is challenging. However, the treatment we received from Mel at the Maplegrove Inn was the most irrational and disrespectful lodging experience I have ever had. My friend booked the room. On the day of arrival, I called ahead to ask for dinner recommendations since we were arriving at 7:30 PM and local spots closed at 8 PM. Mel answered and immediately became hostile about us missing the 7 PM check-in cut-off. I politely offered to have her leave a key under a rock, but she refused, aggressively stating they must meet every guest. She grudgingly agreed to stay until 7:30 PM. To save time, my friend dropped me off at a nearby restaurant to grab food (I was 6 months pregnant & hungry) and went ahead to check in. When Mel realized I wasn't at the check-in, she became livid. When my friend explained I was grabbing food because I was pregnant, Mel snapped, "Stay somewhere else, I'll just refund you." This was an incredibly stressful and unsafe situation on a peak summer Sat night in a tiny town with no other lodging options available. My friend returned to pick me up, and we assessed our options. Finding nowhere else to stay, we reluctantly returned to the Maplegrove. I swallowed my pride, walked in with a smile, and introduced myself. Mel had cooled off, offered a brief apology, said she'd thought I was being "entitled and inconsiderate" of her business hours, and handed us over to Kate, who was lovely and settled us in. The rest of our one-night stay was physically comfortable, but entirely ruined by the extreme stress of the arrival. For Management: my friend got 1 confirmation email sent to us two months prior, which buries the 3-7 PM check-in time without highlighting it (see screenshot). It also instructs guests to call if they need alternate accommodations--which we did, only to be met with hostility and an attempted eviction. While Kate was professional, I cannot recommend the Maplegrove Inn. Your stay is entirely at the mercy of highly mercurial innkeeper Mel.

My grandchildren are Vegan, and Paul, the owner, went out of his way to make the most wonderful vegan breakfasts we have ever had! He was so caring and thoughtful. The rooms were very nicely appointed and very comfortable. we would highly recommend the Maple Inn! We look forward to returning there next summer.
