solid 5 stars. crab cakes on par with Progress Grill but a lot less $$ and the steak was good. excellent deserts as well at a good price. got their version of a surf and turf ( NY stritp and a nice size lump meat crab cake), two appetizers, drinks and two deserts all for 60 bucks. we could have gotten a lot of other things for way less money but got one of the best things on the menu and still reasonable price. This would have been twice as much as some high end places. good service as well as they were busy. update 3/17- tried the veal parm this time. I would say that was a 3, 3 1/2. it was ok, not bad, not the best but for 10 bucks it was well worth it and I was not disappointed that I got the veal. not the best cut of veal, breading was ok, mozzarella cheese could have been broiled a bit longer. the sauce was pretty good for not being an Italian joint and in fact, was better than some Italian restaurant sauces. came with a very nice sized salad with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes etc. Surprised at the 2 star reviews bit as you can see they are the minority. Never had a rude server ever and tasteless food? They would be out of business, not thriving if the food was that bad. 2/18 update. still like this place. the turkey platter is good but wish there was more white vs dark meat. the hot bacon dressing was not as good as expected. 6/18 update, first horrible meal but not reflecting in my review as its the first one and everything else is good. SKIP THE LINGUINI WITH RED CLAM SAUCE. I am not picky, they call me Mikey, I like everything but this was one of the worse meals I ever had. forget al dente, the pasta was so over cooked it mushed in my plate and it was lying in 1/2in of oil with hardly any red sauce. The texture was bad, the flavor was bad, just not good in any way shape or form. annoying to see people take advantage of all you can eat deals. saw a couple do the pot pie and ordered more, got their seconds, possibly thirds, was not paying that much attention until I saw them sit there at there bowls, never took a bit and asked for take out containers. all u can eat should only apply to what you can eat while there,not ordering some to go! read more

This is the best breakfast in the area. Always packed for a reason. If you rate this less than a 4 star fort breakfast, you should eat at home You won't be satisfied anywhere and who wants to read your unfair whining anyway? Also, for breakfast the prices are the best in the whole Harrisburg area. If you're someone who like sweets for breakfast, the other option is to go to the Hershey Pantry, but it will be over $10 per person, generally that's high for breakfast in this area. read more

Today, I found my way to the Brownstone Cafe in Middletown for lunch. I'll be making that trip on a regular basis now that I know what I've been missing. The corner building on Union, formerly a bank and VERY cool, was packed with happy diners chowing down when I arrived at one pm on a Friday. I was greeted when I entered with a genuine smile, and seated quickly. The specials board had a number of delicious sounding options, including fried oysters, one of my favorites, but I opted for the crab pie, which I'd never seen on a menu before. THe regular menu is quite extensive and looks like it will require serious exploration if I can ever get past the specials! Service was brisk and consistently attentive- my order was taken and I was served excellent coffee within a few minutes of taking my seat. Lunch arrived in less than five minutes. The crab pie is large enough to elicit an oh-my when it is set down in front of you. Pierce the glossy, perfect crust and dig in to generous chunks of crab along with bits of celery, onion and potato in a flavorful cream sauce. There were myriad sides available;I chose green beans and stewed tomatoes, both of which clearly started out as fresh veggies in the kitchen. The stewed tomatoes were a nice consistency and pleasantly chunky but a tad sweet for my taste; the green beans were served simply steamed and were delicious with a squeeze of lemon. My coffee was topped off every time I hit the halfway mark. Did I mention they have great coffee? Mellow and flavorful and piping hot. The desserts, I warn you, are tough to resist. I ordered the Brownstone Cheesecake, the house specialty: cheesecake with a chocolate crumb crust topped with a layer of chocolate mousse. Perfection! Not overly sweet and delightfully creamy. The apple dumplings being ordered all around me looked equally tasty. I hear breakfast here is a real treat. I intend to check that out very soon! Nive place, nice folks, great food. read more

Great food and efficient (if brusque) service. The Brownstone menu is a pretty standard diner breakfast menu, but they deliver on each item very very well. Prices are extremely reasonable. There is a small lot behind the restaurant but street parking is pretty easy in Middletown. read more

great ambiance in an old bank building. Staff was a little harried as it was during the Hershey old car meet and they didn't seem to know that. Place was very crowded, but that were able to seat us rather quickly. Staff was very friendly, though slightly overwhelmed. I had the Wisconsin shepherd's pie, and the vegetable soup. Never thought I'd say this but the soup almost had too many vegetables in it. Both could have used a bit more spice, but that is a personal preference that some black pepper cured. Dining companion had the chicken pot pie. He said it had good flavor, but it was not like any pot pie I have ever seen, no crust. More like a chicken dumpling stew. This place is great if you are looking for basic homecooked food/diner food. We stopped in based on all of the positive Yelp reviews and weren't disappointed. The crabcake is awesome and the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy was delicious. It is in an old bank which is cool too. But the best part was the service and how friendly everyone was from the hostess to our waitress to the owner who came to our table personally to discuss options for someone in our group with severe milk and egg allergies. Today is Mother's Day and restaurants are packed. We went to the Brownstone Cafe. We called ahead as we only had 3 people and reservations are for 5 or more. Even with all the people we were seated timely. Our waitress was Linda and she was FABULOUS!!!! She was super busy running around the restaurant serving a number of tables but every time she showed up at our table, she made us feel special and not rushed. The food was great! We had 2 specials the seafood platter and the Seafood au gratin. My Mom had the chicken pot pie. For sides we had the glazed sweet potatoes, creamy cucumbers and pickled beets. Yum! I've lived in Middletown for a year (I'm 14) and it's a nice small town not what I'm used to coming from a big city like Brooklyn. Me and my friend found this cafe while looking around Middletown we wanted to grab a bite to eat and as soon as we entered we felt at home it's a Beautiful café we got some ice cream the waitress we had was really nice and the food was very cheap but still amazing then we took pictures out side it was Beautiful outside I go there once and a while and love it it's a wonderful place and aways has a lot of people if you live near the cafe walking with your friends or yourself and eating there is a great experience (excuse my writing it's summer break my brain isn't functioning properly) read more

I'm a fan of diner food and always will be. This place definitely does diner food very well! I got a Reuben sandwich and fries. The fries tasted great and the sandwich was pretty darn good! I'm also a big soup fan, so I really appreciated their soup selection. Service was a good pace and it didn't take long for the food to come out. If you typically find yourself liking diners, then I'd definitely suggest stopping by! The only reason I haven't given this 5 stars is because, like most diners, they don't really do too much that really blows you away. It was also uncomfortably hot in the dining area. read more

Lunch today. Linguini with white clam sauce. Excellent! Plenty of clams, pasta done to perfection and enough for 2 people, which was so good I finished it off entirely by myself, piggy, piggy me, HA! Service attentive, efficient, very professional and friendly, too. Beautifully re-purposed 1890's bank building, marble floors and wainscoting, soaring windows, intricate moldings, etc. add ++ to the whole experience. Went here for breakfast. Food was awesome. While it was technicaly wheelchair assessable it was very tight. They had to clear the hallway of stored stuff for us to get through. Very nice and friendly people. Would have given them 4 stars if it had better access. Will probably go back but maybe a less busy time so easier to move around. read more

This is a great place to eat. We've been coming here since it opened. Sunday breakfasts are great; aside from your standards, they offer fare that isn't typical of a family diner - Chesapeake Eggs Benedict, Sweet Potato Pancakes, Pumpkin Baked Oatmeal ... all reasonably priced.
