Since Butter & Zeus back home was a semi let down, I was so excited to tryout the original waffle sandwich concept shop. Definitely well thought out and executed! Had the hardest time deciding as most of the menu offerings all sounded delicious. I ended up with the classic chicken & waffles and was able to sample off second and third choices from the rest of my party. The seasoning on the battered chicken was a nice contrast to the honey coleslaw. Next time though, I'll probably grab the smoked salmon lox as that was suprisingly refreshing which caught my taste buds off guard. When Bruxie caught my eye, I simply felt compelled to try it after seeing so many delicious photos from my students on Instagram. The concept seemed appealing- chicken IN waffles? I decided that the time to end hunger was now, and I needed to cross this off my SoCal bucket list. With winds whipping the canvas shades violently, I sat down at a small table near the order window in bold defiance of Mother Nature. When my meal came to my table, my eyes nearly leapt from their sockets. The portion was absolutely immense! I didn't think I would be able to eat the entire dish, but I have never shied away from gastronomic challenges before, and this time would be no different. The waffle was pleasantly warm, folded in a 90 degree angle. The cider slaw formed a cool barrier between baked good and animal flesh. The chicken was piping hot, thin as if prepared like scaloppine, and breaded completely. Honey ran from the corner of the sandwich onto the lunch basket. The monstrous meal barely permitted itself to be folded and held, but I coaxed it into an edible position with no shortage of effort. I took a bite and instantly forgot all about the dangerous winds swirling about. The chicken was perfectly tender and not sinewy; the waffle solid and crisp; and slaw fresh and creamy. In short, it was everything I thought it could be with a dash of honey to enrich the experience. If God grants me the freedom this summer to return to Old Town Orange, I will certainly be back for more. I had never been to Bruxie before, but had heard so many good things about it from several of my friends and had been wanting to try it. My dad and I were on our way to Disneyland and he mentioned this place, so we decided to make our way over there, it being fairly close to the land of Disney. Seriously, this place is incredible. Service is great, ambience is lovely, all outdoors, perfect on a beautiful summer day like today. As for the main attraction, I ordered the turkey club waffle sandwich without bacon, and it was delightful. Everything from the turkey to the gruyere cheese to the crisp waffle was great. We also ordered a side of waffle fries, which were excellent as well. But the thing that stood out the most.. holy crap, the strawberry cheesecake dessert waffle. I kid you not, it was one of the best desserts I've had, and my dad said the same. We will probably be raving about it for a long, long time. And it's not on the regular menu, either. Based on the food I give Bruxie 4 stars. However, I deducted a star because of the booths. Yes the booths! The place that you should comfortably sit and eat your food, the booth! Most places I eat at have booths that you can freely slide from one side to the other. The booths at Bruxie have a metal divider in the middle of the booths that causes the inside person to have to crawl around it to sit. I didn't think I'd be crawling over a jungle gym every time I wanted ketchup or napkins. However, I added another star because of the service. Especially, the little Vietnamese girl. When you bite into it you can feel your teeth go through the different layers from waffle to buttermilk batter to the chicken. Then all of it mixes together to create a surprisingly delish (there it is again, appropriate?) taste. After we got the Ogura waffle which is an Asian Red Bean paste that was spread between a waffle. Seriously, who thinks of these concoctions? Anyway, it was awesome! A definite must try or must try again! My boyfriend ordered the classic buttermilk chicken and waffle with maple syrup, while I opted for a simple spin on a breakfast classic - applewood smoked bacon, tillamook cheddar, and egg on a waffle. Our meals felt pretty light, which surprised me, considering I assumed that maple syrup and waffles PLUS some other foods would be a bit overwhelming. But their waffles are made fairly thin, with just the right amount of crisp and fluffiness, which I definitely appreciate! This review is about four years overdue but regardless, Bruxie has always been a cool little place to have a meal. They have kid's meals that are perfect portion for me! It includes half a sammich, some waffle fries and a tiny little drink, which I fill with their freshly made strawberry lemonade. Depending on who's serving, they usually give me free refills since it's such a tiny drink but I always tip them extra if they do! If not, it's usally $0.50-$1.00 for a refill- only for the strawberry lemonade. The kid's meal sandwiches only include the Cheesy Bruxie, PB&J, S'mores and there might be another sandwich available but I'm not sure what it is. I always get their Cheesy Bruxie with avocado! Avacado is extra, but it's worth it! At the end of the day, I paid just under $13 for 2 kid's meals! I was completely satisfied and didn't even feel hungry afterwards. I was pretty close to giving this place 3 stars, but their customer service bumped it up one star. First and foremost, if you plan to order the Chicken and Waffles selection and expecting a Roscoe's goodness in your mouth, think again and try something else. Their chicken is a lot leaner, and their special sauce they put in adds a strange taste that makes you think if you really like this or not. I also got to try the Egg, Cheese, and Bacon waffle and it was definitely a delight in my mouth. Bruxie takes really great care of the fillings in each waffle, and the balance of the egg and bacon was Perfect. Also, a lot of the customers ordered their wide selection of cold drinks--tea, shakes, soda. Like I mentioned earlier, the customer service here is amazing. There is probably a line going on most of the time here, and there's always at least one or two workers who will come out and ask how you are, willing to help you with an ordering selection, or FREE SAMPLES! Last but not least, be really careful with the parking. You are not allowed to park on Palm Ave, which is only for residents. The day we decided to go to Bruxie it was freakin 97 degrees out! I was expecting to be eating indoors with the AC..then I see that its just a walk up window and you have to fight for seats. There was easy access to water and spray misters to cool down customers as we waited. One of the chefs walked around handing out menus and discussed daily specials with patrons while another worker walked down the line taking orders to get the line moving faster. 4 of us squished into a table meant for 2. I shared the famous chicken & waffle and the prosciutto & gruyere - with mustard on the side! We both agreed the proscuitto was our favorite even though the portion was on the skimp side compared to the chicken. The chili honey glaze that came with the fried chicken was almost sickingly sweet and made the what should have been crispy chicken a little soggy. The waffles were both good but they're made inconsistently. The waffle that came with the prosciutto was cooked almost perfectly! The waffle that came with the chicken was too crunchy. Boyfriend took me here because I have been naggggging to eat at Bruxie. But this time I wasnt really feeling a food waffle but a dessert/sweet one instead :) I ordered the creme brulee. HO MAI GOSH, it was heaven in my mouth! I have never had anything creme brulee before so this was a wonderful awakening for me. Definitely something I will order again and again and again. We also got the lemonade. It was extreeemely sweet, and my boyfriend couldnt drink too much at once, but I can handle my sweets and I enjoyed it a lot! The question is... why didn't I think of this restaurant concept myself? The food quality is first rate. The waffles are crispy (when fresh, to go it might not hold up too well unless you get something unsaucy or oily) and are perfect as a sandwich. The Buttermilk Chicken was good but for the price I thought it could've used more chicken. There were two small pieces with coleslaw inside, not one large breaded breast. If you're hungry and hoping the chicken will fill you up, it won't. Prosciutto and Gruyere was very good. Next time I go I'd really like to try the Prosciutto and Fig. They have date shakes! Oh, so good. Freshly made, thick and creamy with huge chunks of dates. There is always a fair sized lunch line, whether it be on weekdays or the weekend. It's a mix of working people and college students. The line moves fast. Seating is all outside and there are also some standing tables. While one waffle foldover sandwich or dessert itself is not pricey, add in criss cut fries and a soda or shake and you're looking at $12-15, which is not exactly cheap for a quick lunch. Tried the chicken waffle here. So good. SO GOOD. The waffle was fluffy but firm, the chicken had such a great combination of spices on it. The dish came with a slaw and a syrup. To me, the syrup was really the surprise of the dish. Not quite a maple syrup, and it had it's own balance of spiciness to it that really complemented the chicken and waffles well. I heard from one of my friends that I was supposed to eat it with a fork and knife...what! No thanks. It was served with the waffle folded on the chicken, so I'm eating it like a sandwich! I've only had the chicken and waffles here, but the chicken sure is good. It's juicy, tender and not too much breading, light and crispy. As for the waffle, it was lighter and crispier with more air bubbles than a normal waffle, or at least the ones I've eaten. Even though I personally don't like cole slaw, the slaw here was lightly dressed and didn't drench the entire waffle or chicken. I can't stand the sweetness of slaw usually, but this balanced out the saltiness of the chicken. Good stuff. read more

Then somewhere along the way the decided to lean heavily towards predominantly chicken in their menu and many of the innovative culinary treats were removed from the menu. It is now very pedestrian. The other night I decided to give it another try. I ordered the Nashville Hot chicken. It came back NOT hot. I think maybe they gave me the standard chicken because it definitely was not hot. This place is delicious! Bruxie didn't let me down. We got: -Smoked Salmon & Dill Cream Cheese Waffle -Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffle -Fruit & Cream Waffle and Vanilla Milkshake. The chicken was crisp and tender. The salmon and cream cheese ratio was on point. The Fruit & Cream waffle was good, but it tasted something similar to Strawberry Jam toast. The waffle, of course, is cooked to perfection and is fresh and crisp at each bite. I highly recommend the Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffle and Vanilla Milkshake. The chicken was so juicy and crisp we couldn't stop raving about it after the meal. The vanilla shake is perfect- not too sweet nor bland. Pretty cute, cool place to eat! They let you choose from sweet or savory items from their menu. I had the smoked salmon (without the cream cheese) and it was DELICIOUS. So delicious that I went back in line and ordered another one!! Moderate prices for great food. Employees are nice and happy to chat it up with you while you're in line to help you decide what to get. I`m disappointed that they didnt have many options for vegetarians though :( read more

I had been dying to try Bruxie!!! I was so excited!! I love the concept and think it's so out of the box. A great way to turn the gross chicken n waffles into gourmet. I opted for the salmon lox waffle and my sister had some crazy meat concoction. LOL No she ordered the "bacon cheeseburger" one. I thought the salmon lox was delicious, it had a wonderful fresh flavor. My sister loved her bacon burger too! I really want to go back to try one of their sweet desserts, but definitely need to go and share! Been coming here for a while. Came near closing on a Monday night and it was pretty empty. This meant fast service and open seats. Unfortunately, they only have outdoor seating here and it has been cold lately thus not the most ideal of situations. I always end up getting the original waffle sandwich. As I always tell my friends, I come here more for the taste than the food. The chicken is usually always nicely fried. and their waffles are well made. The honey glaze sauce thing gives it a nice sweetness to it along with the cole slaw. It doesn't always completely fill me up, but the prices tend to cause me to not order more. I definitely suggest you to come try it if you are not from around here, or have not had this before. It isn't your typical chicken and waffles. They also have many different kinds of waffle sandwiches you can try. The fries tend to be very common, but in my opinion they are just regular waffle fries. Come check it out! I've had this place bookmarked for months and finally was able to get my grub on here! Cat T., her sister and I got there around noon on a Saturday and boy was it crowded! The line wasn't too long, but I could see we would have to fight for a table. We each ordered the fried chicken waffle with 2 orders of waffle fries and some sodas. We were disappointed the short rib was out! :( Must go back for that next time! Waffle was delightfully light and crispy on the outside. It wasn't heavy like typical belgian waffles. There was a good balance with the heavy fried chicken, cole slaw and honey. The chicken was a little dry for my taste. Also, some bites were a little too sweet for my taste, but overall, a good waffle sandwich. Waffle fries - really good! Salted to perfection in my opinion. Sodas made with sugar cane (got cola flavor) - it was different. Not sure if I like it because I'm a recovering Coke addict. What I didn't like about this place was staking out tables. We seriously had to hover around tables because people would snatch it from us if we weren't close enough to make our presence known that we were eyeing a particular table. I felt bad, but it had to be done. We couldn't eat the waffles standing and we certainly couldn't take it home. Finger lickin' good!! I live for waffles so I've been dying to try out Bruxie ever since I heard about it. I already knew I wanted to order to Prosciutto & Gruyere Sandwich ($7.95) and it did not disappoint! The creaminess of the cheese matched perfectly with the saltiness of the ham... and that is how you make perfection. The size of the sandwich is alright but it definitely wouldn't be filling if your were starving. I also tried the Ogura Sandwich ($4.95) for dessert and it was delicious as well. It's a sweet bruxie with red bean and sweet cream. It's very reminiscent of those Korean Red Bean Buns but a little better in my opinion because of the sweet cream. The seating here is adorable but all of it is outside. So I wouldn't come here if the weather is bad unless you're willing to take it to-go. This place is absolutely delicious! It's an outside location that had been evolving over the years. They now have a roof area that overs you from the rain and the sun. They have heaters and ceiling fans for whatever the weather might be. The menu is all inclusive, they have something for everyone! Breakfast they have waffles, and other breakfast items. Lunch: They have some of the best burgers around Dinner: They have chicken and waffles and whatever else you might be craving. They also have lettuce wraps if you don't want it in the waffle buns. They also have salads if that is what you are craving. They syrup they have for the waffles and chicken is just really good. I took my son here and he has a pb&j sandwich with fries and a homemade strawberry lemonade. He really liked his sandwich, but as a kid, you eat all the fries whenever possible. Meanwhile I ordered the Bruxie Original Burger. It came with a waffle bun, lettuce, pickles, tomato, and a secret sauce. The food was amazing, the strawberry lemonade a little too sweet but I put more water in it and it was fine. The fries were great, thick, and not greasy. This location has really evolved and it's great for whenever you want to come, but be weary because it is literally across the street from Chapman University and Oldtown Orange so it's always packed. read more
