Great beer garden. Parked and took a tiny walk up to the restaurant. You have the choice of being served indoors or walk out to the beer garden and self-serve. There was nobody sitting inside at all. Everybody was outside enjoying the beer garden. We of course have to do the beer garden route since we wanted the whole experience with the locals. Food is premade and you can just pick out the premade plates (salads, desserts etc) like at IKEA or if you order other items not premade in the glass case, they'll cook it fresh and bring it to your table. The glass premade food looked dry and not so appetizing though. You order, pay, grab your own utensils, condiments and find a seat to sit down. We ordered two cakes, a whole pork knuckle which was cut in half and another pork dish with bread ball and potato ball. The food was great. The pork knuckle was excellently cooked and delicious. However, I had an extremely negative experience here due to another guy that was sitting across from where we were sitting. While I was carrying my tray to my seat, a guy got up from his seat and approached me. I told him I didn't speak his language. He sat back down, thought about it and walked over to my table once again, speaking English this time. He said that he really wanted some pork knuckle but the whole thing was too large for him so he just wanted a small piece and that he would pay me for it. I wasn't thinking negative thoughts, i actually didn't even think twice- I guessi was in a happy giving mood and immediately cut half of the knuckle and gave it to him. He thanked me over and over. I even gave him the better piece of the knuckle. He went back to his seat to eat it and then walked back to me and said he didn't have money and when his girlfriend would come he'd pay me. At that moment, I started to realize this guy was a scam. We even witnessed him stealing beer from the counter (since you pay ahead of time and lunch up the beer at the counter). He didn't pay and just picked up someone else's beer. He then came back to us and said he didn't have money and that he'd have to go get money from somewhere. We told him it's fine, no need. He went back to his seat and then later got up and switched seats to another part of the garden. I think this is just what he does. Scam all the foreigners. I didn't have enough knuckle to share within our party since I literally gave more than half away like I was in some trance, but it would be too much to buy another knuckle. Plus we had other dishes to fill up on. Overall I felt upset at the whole experience. The garden itself was awesome and cool and food was pretty ok. The knuckle was the best, whatever was left of it. read more

We had food at different breweries in Munich and coming to this place about 40 mins outside was worth it. The beer was excellent I tried the kristal. The food was flavorful and not salty. I had the schnitzel with potatoes and is really good with the beer. We also ordered the Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) and was one of the I tried while in Bavaria. The roasted duck was not huge but was very tasty. The service was great coming in late afternoon it was not very crowded and got seated right away. I believe that a lot of international students work here since it's next to the university and they spoke English. Like most parts in Germany you have to be a little assertive when getting the service peoples attention and they expect that. The ambiance was great I felt like an inn with wood paneling where we were seated; nice and cozy. It was late November and it was too cold to sit outside. read more

Our beef and pork were too tough to even cut through. We refused it and because we did not order another item, they billed is 72 euro for food we did not eat. The food was not edible. AVOID!! Another woman was stung by a bee in the biergarten. She came into the restaurant to finish her beer and the waitress chased her off and told her she had to go back outside with the bees. This is the oldest brewery in the world. If you do not imbibe, worry not because they also have a magnificent food menu. It was our last day in Bavaria and we got up early to have a bite to eat at this historic location. We went with the famous Bavarian white sausages which for ages have been a breakfast staple in this region. Oo la la! A home run! These sausages are made of veal and are precooked. When ordered they are served in a bowl of warm water. There are two ways to eat these gems. You either make an incision on one end and holding the sausage in your hand you push up the meat into your mouth or you can remove the casing and use your silverware to enjoy this delicacy. The seasoning is to die for especially with the sweet German mustard slathered all over the meat. All I can say is that if you have not had it before this should be on your list on your next visit to Bavaria. read more

Rolling into town, we were very excited to sit down in the "oldest brewery in the world" as it's advertised, and have a few drinks. Upon walking in, the place looked nice, however that was the end of the road as far as fair greetings. We stood at the host area for several minutes awaiting someone to greet us. After this time a surly gentleman came to us to which we advised we would like to have a few drinks among the four of us. He then said that if we are not eating we cannot have a table. We asked if there was a bar we could sit at. "We don't have a bar" (??) Dumbfounded, we did not know what to say. A few other parties behind us were seated while we figured out if this dude was joking or serious. He finally returned and said we could sit at a certain table for an hour but we needed to leave within an hour. We were led to a room vacant of any other living things, secluded so that nobody else would see us vagrants. We ordered beers and began our taste testing. Quite disappointed by all the beers we had, we decided to have one round and split. Waiting several minutes for anyone to notice we were still inhabiting the room, it had me wandering the halls trying to flag someone down to get a check. This place was such a dud, I cannot even recommend anything here. Disappointing to say the least. read more

If you are looking for good quality German dishes, that's a great place to go to. The service at this place is first class, everyone extremely friendly and helpful! What a disappointment. The restaurant seems to have three different rooms that are different in atmosphere. We sat in the basement. I assume it was a storage area for beer barrels at one point. Everything was simply bad during our stay. We were served by at least 4 staff members which led to chaos. Food and drinks took a long time. The two main courses were not served at the same time. The acoustics of the room are horrible and we really had to nearly scream to hear each other. The duck was a very small portion (even too small for a lady), yet costed 16,50 Euro. No Wifi. No card payment at the table. The restaurant was full of tourists and the staff was partly not German either. Clean toilets. read more

Very good bavarian food in a typical restaurant. Different kind of beers including special craft beers. It's always busy and needs a reservation for larger groups. BTW, it's a nice walk from downtown Freising up to the Braeustueberl. read more

Braustuberl Weihenstephan is the restaurant at *yes* the world's oldest brewery so visiting there was like making a pilgrimage to a religious shrine for me and my wife. And yes, it was worth it. They serve traditional Bavarian food, which means many of the choices are pork or sausage dishes served with potato salad (pretty good) or potato dumplings (delicious). The typical starter is the Bavarian salted pretzel (Brez'n) with a half liter of wheat beer, or Hefeweizen. Because the restaurant is at the brewery, I recommend trying such other beers as Vitus or Korbinian (named after St. Korbinian, first Bishop of Freising). You won't be sorry. Plan to walk back to your hotel! read more

This is my number one place in Freising to get Bavarian food. Every time when I visit my family in Germany, I need to get a Schnitzel at this Bavarian restaurant. Their Schnitzel is one of the best Schnitzels in the world. In summer you can enjoy the spectacular view of Freising in their outdoor seating area, which is separated in a Biergarten (with self-service) and a served area. I will definitely get a Schnitzel at this place next time when I come to Germany. read more
