I really wish I could give a good review especially given how nice David, the stylist, was to my son and listening to what I wanted. I chose balayage because I wanted a lived in look. Problem is balayage turned out lopsided, too close to my roots, and too choppy. I called the salon and spoke to the stylist . David promised that it will not grow out with harsh lines. Problem is it's still not the look I wanted. I didn't notice this until after the phone call: 1. The right side does not match the left side. Left side color starts close to the roots whereas right side starts further down (closer to what I wanted). 2. Poor blending on both sides. It's blended in the front but not throughout. Stylist even admitted on the phone they intentionally made the back more chunky saying it's okay because your hair covers it so you cannot see it?! I don't know about you but paying $380, I expect my entire head to be blended evenly. Also it would have been nice to know this up front. Higher price than I expected being in Chinatown. I'm visiting from Chicago. Not sure if it's all of NYC or just this establishment but 70% of the color application was done by a color assistant not the stylist. And there's expectation that you tip both the stylist and assistants. With that I ended up paying more than I would've in Chicago. I've had hair cut and perm with other stylists at the salon. Those turned out good. Do not recommend for hair coloring. read more

This salon is great- welcoming, clean, and such a great value. I absolutely LOVE my long layers haircut by Romeo. I showed him a couple photos and he knew exactly what to do. Romeo checked in with me throughout to make sure I was comfortable with how much hair was cut, but otherwise, I didn't need to say a word because he was working like an artist from the cut to the blowout. I am trying so hard to like my haircut by Tony and not leave a negative review, because Tony was a super nice guy and we had a very pleasant chat. The haircut looked fine in the salon right after blow drying, even though I was suspicious of Tony's cutting methods. After I got home so the hair is in its natural shape, I saw my hair in the mirror and I almost lost the will to live... I didn't have a lot of hair to begin with, but chunks of layers were cut off. The haircut looks incredibly old and outdated. My hair was also shoulder length to begin with, now it can't even be saved by another haircut. I'm sorry I really liked the hairdresser as a person, but this haircut is honestly the absolute worst I've gotten in my 30 something life. The woman who washed my hair did a wonderful job, was gentle but also made sure my scalp was clean. Tony, the hairdresser, is amazing and looks after his clients. I sent David the "before" picture and asked him if he could take me lighter. I wanted more of an ash blonde and no brassiness. It took a lot of time and a lot of bleach as my hair is naturally very dark and very resistant to bleach. The "before" pic is also after multiple bouts of going from blues, greens and reds, and then back to a dirty blonde. As you can see in the "after" pics, my hair is much lighter, he took the color up like I asked, and it's not brassy. I'm super happy with the way it came out! David is always really patient and he won't lie to you or try to upsell you on bs. If your previous hair color isn't going to lift and take you to a platinum blonde in one session, he'll let you know right off the bat. If he recommends something it's because your hair needs it. He's good at what he does, the salon is clean and safe, and sometimes his dogs come to visit! I also included a pic of a cut he did in 2018 ahead of a photo shoot. It just really showcases his handiwork! It wasn't meant to be a hair photo shoot but that's what it ended up looking like to me. The lines are just so clean and it just looks beautiful. TLDR: Men who want a terrible cut from Jason, feel free to take him up. I can't speak for the female styles here. He's probably better at that. Came here looking for David per the high amount of reviewers, but he wasn't around, so they gave me Jason. Based on reviewers, he's been around for many years. I thought it'd be okay. Terrible decision. Entered, got my hair wash, great - standard. Sat down with Jason, doesn't speak English, so I had to just show him a picture and hoped he gets the point. I showed him how it looks from front, back, and side. The picture I showed is Asian short men's cut - a 1 on the sides and nape of neck, top back is about 1.5-2inches of hair, bangs hang above eyebrows. Note: My hair is well hanging under my eyes, my side was well past my ears. He took a look and suggested to perm immediately. I said no, because I wasn't thinking about coughing up $120+ to perm a short styled cut at the time. He doesn't look at my hairlines, how my head shape is, just goes right into using a what seems to be 1.0 - 1.5 guard all around and didn't even give a fade, despite having shorter guards in front of him. He ended up having to wash my hair because the hair washer was busy with someone else, he sucks at washing hair, extremely rough, water getting all over my face. Left an extremely short cut that looks nothing like the picture. Probably 2.5 inches long from my hair whorl to my bangs. He tried to apply wax to my hair, and was extremely rough with his tugs, and finished off with hair spray - to which I'm not sure why he focused so much of it at the back of my head when there's no hair there anymore. Terrible cut. Worse, it was $32 (before tips). I can probably get a better cut at a $7 cut spot. At least fade properly if you're going to cut it that short... I'd much rather appreciate you declining to cut my hair if you're not confident in cutting a style you're not familiar with. Not coming back. read more

I come down from Boston to get my hair cut by Jason and have been doing this for years! Now in Covid, it had been a few months since I felt safe to come down. They recently reopened and they are doing a great job. I have a slanted long bob cut, and it comes out perfect every time. Jason's attention to detail is incredible. The cut ensures my hair falls perfectly every time, grows out nicely, and requires nearly no daily maintenance. Many days, I just wake up and go. Cheaper but what's your hair looks like? Came here for a very simple waves dry...firstly it was so difficult to talk and explain what i wanted for the difference language, second they wanted to cut my hair even if i asked just for waves dry 3 times! They gave me an unprofessional guy who didn't really know how to use the curly iron and he also didn't put any hairspray during the work so after 30 minutes that I left the place my hair was like before naturally straight! I really wanted to go back but I had a party and I decided to fix my hair at home as better as possibile. Cherry on top: they charged me $10 more because the guy used the curly iron, the place smelled cigarettes smoke and there was a man who burped all the time. No thank you, I'm not going back anymore! Well I first want to say that the first time I came here was a few years ago and I had a great coloring session done by one of the male stylists (sorry don't remember the name). So when I came back to New York, I decided to dye my hair once again at this salon. This time one of the Chinese ladies helped me to dye my hair. My hair was all black, but half of it was boxed black hair dyed and the roots were virgin black hair. I mentioned this to the lady because I knew lightening black box dyed hair to a lighter brown could be troublesome. Since i couldn't speak much Chinese, I used English and said it several times and she seemed to nod like she understood. And after I pointed to the color I wanted (just a lighter brown), she nodded again. So everything was fine until I noticed as I was waiting for the color to absorb, the stylists were talking in mandarin, and I started getting worried. After around 30min, the lady then mentioned something on the lines of how the colors weren't matching and thats when I knew it was bad. Well then, after they washed out my hair and I saw it in the mirror, I was super pissed. My hair had gone through several hair coloring in the past so when she used one color of dye to dye my whole head, the results were different shades of brown. The lady kept blaming me asking why I didn't tell her I previously dyed it, when I had said and gestured it several times. Then she had the audacity to say 'its ombre, its popular and a trend right now'. BUT I NEVER ASKED FOR OMBRE. Anyways, after I told them I didn't like it, they said there was no way to fix unless I bleached it all over and that I would have to pay again. Wow. So you screw up my hair, then try to pretend it looks fine, then wanna make me pay for it to fix it. I would have even been fine with it if it was all one color, but my hair literally looked like Neapolitan ice cream. Please do not come here, especially if you wish to lighten previously dyed dark hair. And obviously, they care more about the money than good customer service. read more

I came in earlier this week after scheduling an appointment with David on Booksy. I asked for a short bob with wispy bangs and face framing layers and I showed him a photo of what I wanted. Before I left, David advised me to play with it and reach out if anything was wrong. He didn't style my bangs in the chair so I had to try to do it myself when I got home. The bob is beautiful but the bangs were cut too short and there weren't any longer pieces on the sides to create "face-framing" pieces. I realized what he had cut around my face was not noticeable. Therefore, without those pieces, my bald spots are made really obvious. I texted him on the number he had used to contact me before, asking for the face framing layers to be cut and added a video I found of how I would like them cut. David reached out to me later that week and he saw me that very day, squeezing me into a fully booked schedule. I thought this place was decent, didn't exceed my expectations and price was average amongst salons. My simple haircut was $35 included wash/cut/blow dry, not including tip. This is where other places charge and thought would be cheaper give my one $ and location in Chinatown. I was thankful to have Tony when I didn't ask for any specific hairstylist and realized later that many people likes him. I speak Chinese so there was no communication problems. He listened well and made sure he knew what I wanted. He was very fast, I was out of the chair in less than 30 min, great for if you're in a rush. Maybe my haircut was simple too since I just needed a straight cut, with few inches off the bottom. He recommended hair treatment given my hair was damaged/frizzy which is $100+ I believe. Maybe next time. I did like that there was no appointments needed, and no waiting time on a Sunday afternoon. Hair washing was very basic; obviously nothing like the ones I've experienced in China where they take the time to shampoo and condition hair and massage you. At the end, at the front desk for paying. It was $35 cash only. I gave tip to Tony in person. The front desk lady was also pointing out to me that the person who washed my hair is over there when I didn't ask her to begin with. I didn't understand at the time and the lady kept on repeating it. I later realized that they expect two tip, one for hairstylist and one for person who washes your hair. I don't mind the language barrier - I honestly like not feeling like I have to make conversation, I can just relax while they do their magic :) I went on Valentine's Day around 4pm and was taken immediately to get my hair washed, the girl did an awesome job and it felt amazing, smelled amazing, etc. Tony was my stylist - he was quick and definitely did a great job with my hair. I said I wanted some waves, I have stick straight hair - he used a round brush first, then used a crimper (yes, a crimper!) to add some volume around the crown of my head - good trick! Then he finished the look with a big barrel curling iron, used some spray to set it. I paid $20 and gave a nice tip to Tony and to the girl who washed my hair who i think said her name was Connie or something similar to that ;) I will go back for sure - it was a really fun experience. read more

(The price range for coloring is from $150-$200). He started doing my hair around 6PM and didn't close the store until it was done! It took about 4 hours total. I felt so bad because it was way past the store's closing time. I was expecting to be kicked out or David to rush the job or have an annoyed attitude. But to my surprise, David did an amazing job from beginning to end. He was friendly and chill the entire time. If there is one word to describe his work, it's meticulous. He goes strand by strand on your entire head for the perfect balayage. The blend is so natural looking!! He also washed and blow dried my hair twice during this process. I couldn't wait to see the results after each wash! Overall, I am satisfied with how my hair looks and very impressed with the service. The price is also very affordable. Not $. The signs aren't clear, and they aren't flexible about pricing. I had 10 min to get my bangs cut. I saw the minimum pricing (shampoo and blow dry) on the chart to be $18, so I thought I might as well have them do the minimum cut. I wasn't asking for shampoo and blow dry. I was simply asking for a bang cut. I told them I didn't really care about the rest of my hair. I usually get band cuts for free in various places ($$) in Koreatown as long as I pay tip, but everywhere is different. I would be willing to pay the minimum on their chart for $18. I noticed that they did a 10-20 sec blow dry -- not exaggerating. They finished my bang cut with a quick trim in the back in less than 10 min. No hair wash. I was a happy camper. When I went to the counter and billed me for $35 cash. I was a bit confused and appalled because it didn't seem clear on the chart. Similarly, even it was clear on the chart, I couldn't believe that they would charge their minimum amount of $35 for a 10 min bang trim. They did snip a little in the back for about 2 min and a 10-20 sec blow dry. I tried speaking with them because I felt completely blindsided and appalled by their inability/unwillingness to see how from a customer's point of view a 10 min bang cut turned into a $35 cash bill. But they simply said that's their minimum fee for any type of hair cut -- quick, short, long, etc. I was disappointed in their lack of transparency, inept communication, and poor customer service. read more

My friend recommended David for a haircut, and I'm in love! First of all, it's SO CHEAP for NY (literally $35 for a cut). Also, David does a great job of communicating his thoughts on hairstyles you show him and if it would suit your face/head shape. I also am blonde, and my hair is friiiiiiiied, and somehow he managed to cut off all of the dead hair. My hair doesn't feel or look like hay anymore!
